Chapter Forty Five

GRACE POV

“What is this, huh? Why are you guys confusing me?”.He sounded angry as he glared at us.

“We are sorry sir”.Angela said with her eyes down casted to the floor. “But we lied against Jeanann and we would like you to give her mark back to her”.

The teacher didn’t say anything for the next few seconds, he was just keeping his eyes on us.

“If you lied against Jeanann, does that mean all she said about you was true?”.

Angela nodded with a soundless stiff, she didn’t want to do this I know but she had no choice.

“Yes sir, she was right about me not helping her but she was wrong when she said I do stay at home doing nothing. It’s just that…”.She paused, probably to catch more lies. “It’s just that last week was very stressful for me, my mum actually gave birth to triplets but two of them were ill. I couldn’t come to help Jeanann doing those times cause I was busy in the hospital with my mum. She was so worried for her babies and it was affecting her heath. Anytime I create time to visit Jeanann something bad would happen, it’s either my mum fainted or that the ill babies were bleeding but thankfully they are well now and were discharged yesterday”.

I awed at her with a surprised smile on my lips. The lie was awesome..

“Oh Miss Angela, am so sorry for that but I don’t get it, why was she defending you in class?”.He asked, referring to me and I gulped down nervously.

“Sir, it’s…”.

“Can’t she speak for herself?”.The teacher cut Angela off and I inched my head. Oh dmmit, I wasn’t good in lies.

“Sir, um am…um..”.I stuttered and Angela stared at me, expecting me to form a good lie.

“Sir, am sorry for my words in class. I never knew Jeanann was right”.Okay, what am I gonna say next. Oh, this is so hard. “The thing is, Angela is a very good person and I thought she’d help Jeanann in the project but today Angela told me Jeanann was right and we agreed to come explain it to you”.

The teacher sighed, staring down at his pen before staring back at us.

“Miss Angela, you know what you did was wrong right?”.

“Yes I know sir and am sorry”.Angela muttered and the teacher hummed.

“Your punishment is that you would serve detention today since Miss Jeanann served hers yesterday and also, you will write a twenty page apology letter to Jeanann. I want that letter to be submitted to her tomorrow at first sight, okay?”.

“Okay sir but what about our marks?”.

“It wouldn’t be reduced since it wasn’t the both of you faults but now, please leave my office. I have other things to do”.He said and we both thanked him before leaving his office.

“Phew! That wasn’t hard, was it?”.Angela smiled as soon as we were out of the office.

“It was kinda”.I giggled but gasped lightly when I saw a bump on her right hand. It was so big and red, it must be painful as hell.

“Hey, what is this?”.I touched the bump but removed my fingers when I saw her whine.

“Ow, you shouldn’t have touched it”.She whined, fanning the bump with her left hand.

“Sorry but how did you sustain this? I didn’t see it on you when you came to my seat this morning”.I asked and she bit her lips, probably to suppress the pain.

“It was Harper. Go$h! That girl is a witch, she must be the leader in their coven. She had pinched me so hard when Jeanann was talking to me but no one noticed”.She frowned and I sighed, staring back at the bump which seem to be getting bigger every minute.

“You should go to the school clinic, you need to get this wound treated and bandaged”.

“You think so?”.

“Hmm….yeah and we should there now before it gets infected”.I said and she nodded before leading the way while I followed after her.

We got to the school clinic and she was injected while some medicines were applied on the wound before it finally got bandaged.

We later went to the cafeteria and walked to the counter to order our foods. After we ordered it, we paid for it and went to an empty table to eat.

“Wow, I never thought that the cafeteria could be so peaceful”.She beamed as she ate a spoonful of her chocolate ice cream.

She had ordered only an ice cream but I ordered some chips, a few slices of cake and a vegetable salade.

“What do you mean by that?”.I asked and she rolled her eyes, licking off the ice cream which littered on her lips.

“Jeanann and her friends, they aren’t embarrassing me here and now. As you can see, they are eating without sparing me a glance”.She said and I turned to take a look only to see Jeanann’s friends eating on their table but Jeanann was nowhere to be found.

“Jeanann isn’t here…”.

“Fortunately she isn’t here. We should be happy about that”.She cut me off and I sighed, eating a piece of my cake.

“Angela, when Jeanann gave you her shirt, did you take that as a kind gesture or what?”.

“Look Grace, have known Jeanann since grade eight but her character is… What should I call it? Yeah, unexplainable. Most times she is rude, bad, acts bitchy and sometimes she is kind, nice, always look helpful. She is so unpredictable and hard to define”.

“But her btchy character is the worst, she almost got you half bare”.I gritted my teeth at the memory of what happened two or three hours ago.

“But she didn’t, somehow I knew she wouldn’t. Grace, Jeanann is not so wicked, her friends are but not her. Maybe her friends are influencing her, maybe she acts that way because she thinks that she would always get what she wants if she acts violent and put fear in people. She is someone who wants love, she wants people to love her, she love being popular among people but you know what she hates? She hates when people ignore her, she hates when she feels lonely and sad and that’s why she wants to be around people but she loves it when people respects her, she loves it when people treats her like a queen and adore her. In a nutshell, she wants to feel loved”.She said and I scoffed.

Love. So this is all about love and she thinks she will get loved by people when she treats them badly, isn’t that ridiculous?

“Doesn’t she get as many love as she wants from her parents?”.I asked and Angela whispered slowly.

“I don’t think she got parents”.

“W…what?!”.I yelled and some students nearby glared at me and I muttered some sorr-ies to them before glancing back at Angela.

“What do you mean by that?”.I asked, this time lowly.

“During the times I go to the house to carry out the project with her, the house will always be quiet and empty. Her parents or siblings are hardly seen at home, I don’t think she got any”.

“Hey, don’t jump into conclusions. They might have traveled out of the country”.I said and just as she was about saying something more, the bell ranged.

I quickly finished up my food and as I and Angela were about leaving the cafeteria, Kyree suddenly came my name and I stared at him.

“Angela please wait here. I’ll be back”.I said and went to Kyree who I saw holding a shirt neatly folded in a light material.

“Hey Grace, here is your birthday gift. Sorry, I couldn’t give it to you earlier”.He said and I gasped, glancing at the shirt before glancing back at him.

“Go$h! You shouldn’t have….”.

“Please Grace, just accept it”.He said and I sighed before I took the shirt from him.

I brought it out from its package but as soon as I saw the front cover of the shirt, I really did feel shocked.

On the front cover some words were imprinted, it was;

HAPPY SWEET SIXTEEN GRACE, I ? YOU.
