HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 31 – 40
CHAPTER 36
I turned my head towards the sound, only to see a man in white coat sitting on the armchair Duncan was sitting -he must be a doctor.
But when did he come in? How come we didn’t noticed him entering the ward?
I gave Duncan questioning but he smiled.
“I saw when he was entering” he said as if he heard my unasked question.
The doctor laughed.
“Hi, Mrs Baldwin, I’m your attending doctor, Anderson Clarkson” he introduced himself, reaching his hand forward for a handshake.
I reached out my hand to shake him, but Duncan beat me to it which made me rolled my eyeballs; what a possessive freak.
Doctor Anderson simply laughed at Duncan’s action, then turned to face me after shaking hands with Duncan.
“I see you’re one strong lady, you woke up way earlier than we speculated” he said.
“Oh”
“Yeah, it’s good you’re awake, are you feeling any pains in your head?” Doctor Anderson asked as he opened his clipboard.
“Nope, just a slight headache” I subconsciously touched my head.
“Uh.. I’ll prescribe some painkillers to help with the headache” he said while writing something on the clipboard.
“Thank you” I thanked him.
He nodded before turning back to Duncan.
“Mr Baldwin, you didn’t let me finish before you rushed out of my office”
He paused and laughed as if Duncan had done something funny, I raised an eyebrow at Duncan but he shook his head, silently telling me it’s nothing.
“I wanted to tell that your wife would have lost the baby because she had a very hard fall… ”
Duncan and I subconsciously rubbed my stomach when he said that.
“… but it seems like you’ve both got yourselves a very stubborn baby and I’m guessing it’s definitely gonna be a boy, because of his stubbornness” he laughed.
I shook my head in disagreement.
“I don’t want a boy, I want a girl” I looked down at my stomach. “Are you listening to your mama? Make sure you’re a girl ok?”
Doctor Anderson and Duncan laughed at my silliness, he looked at Duncan as if he’s waiting for him to make a choice too.
“I’ll go by my wife’s wish” he said.
Doctor Anderson laughed more.
“Well, I want a boy, so I’ll say your stubborn soldier refused to leave his mama”
We all laughed this time, but I stopped immediately I noticed my headache was kinda getting stronger.
“Anyways, pay extra attention to your wife from now onwards, and don’t let her stress herself too much or we can’t be so sure if your baby would be able to cling very tight to his mama next time another accident occurs”
“Of course” Duncan and I said at once.
“Alright, you’re not getting discharge today because you’re still under observation”
“Huh?”
“Hm” he nodded. “We can’t afford any mistake now, right?”
I pouted my lips.
Doctor Anderson got up.
“I have some data to resort, if you’ll excuse me” he said and headed out.
Now it’s just Duncan and I, he kssed my cheek and rubbed my tummy fondly.
“We’re gonna be parents soon, isn’t it exciting?” he asked.
“Hm” I hummed absentmindedly.
My attention wasn’t here anymore, all I’m thinking about at the moment was my cafe. I thought I’d be discharged today so I can go back to my business, but unfortunately, doctor Anderson is working against me.
Maybe I should trick Duncan into discharging me.
“Uh… Duncan?”
“Hm?”
“Can you give me a ride to my cafe?” I asked as politely as I could.
He frowned.
“No” he answered curtly. “You’re not going back to your cafe today”
“What? Why?” I asked.
“The doctor said I shouldn’t let you do any activity that would stress you, and that includes not going to your cafe” he said. “Besides, there’s no way you are getting discharge today” he repeated doctor Anderson’s words.
I turned around to face him, I put my arms around his neck and blinked innocently at him.
“I don’t stress in my cafe, I only sell ice cream and make coffees for customers”
“That’s stressful”
“No, it’s not” I argued.
“It is”
“But my cafe is still open and… ”
“I’ve sent men to go lock it up, and give up the idea of going to your cafe until our baby is born”
“Huh?”
I gaped at him, then pushed him off the bed and folded my arms on my chest, then pouted grumpily.
“You’re being over dramatic and overprotective right now”
“Of course” he replied simply.
I’m only a month and two weeks pregnant but he’s already getting all worked up?
Well, I guess this is my chance to take advantage of him and make him pay for staying away from home for six years -hehehe.
“Ugh” I groaned softly which caught his attention at once.
I leaned my on the pillow, resting my back on the small headboard and make sure my face was contorted in tiredness. My chest started rising and falling, as though I’m finding it hard to breathe.
“What’s wrong? Are you ok? Should I call the doctor?”
I shook my head in disapproval.
“I’m feeling.. I’m just feeling nauseous and…”
I trailed off and pretended as though I wanna puke, Duncan quickly reached for the small waste-bin and brought it near my mouth. But I pushed it away and shook my head, signaling him that I’m alright.
He dropped the waste-bin and stared at me worriedly.
“I think I should call the doctor” he said as he made to get up, but I pulled him down.
“I’m fine” I paused and hiccuped. “Just buy me some fruits and ice cream and I’ll be ok”
“Fruits and ice cream?”
I nodded.
“Won’t that cause food poisoning?”
I shook my head.
“Are you sure?” I nodded.
He stared at me for a moment, then shook his head in disagreement.
“I think I should seek the doctor’s advice first and….”
I cut him off with my fake cry, I first started with a sob and quivering my lips, and before I knew it tears have started flowing down my cheeks in rapid speed.
“W-what, what’s wrong? Why are you crying? Is your head hurting?”
I shook my head to all his questions.
“Then.. then what’s wrong?”
“I…” I sniffled. “I just wanna eat some fruits and ice cream”
“But I don’t think that’s a good combination”
“It’s, it’s what the baby wanna eat” I sniffled and squeezed some tears out. “I’ll continue puking if I don’t eat what the baby wants” I opened my mouth very wide and cried very loudly.
He winced at my extremely loud cry, he slapped his hand over my mouth to muffle my cries.
“Fine, fine”
I paused, but didn’t stop sniffling in case he says something I don’t like, then I’ll pick up from where I stopped.
“Fine, I’ll get them for you” he surrendered and I smirked victoriously. “Just tell me which kind of fruits”
“Grape”
He sighed and nodded. He reached for his phone and dialed a number, he waited a few seconds before speaking.
“Fatima, go to the nearest supermarket and buy some fruits…”
“I don’t want Fatima to go” I cut in with a pout.
He paused and raised an eyebrow at me.
“I want you to go buy them yourself” I told him.
He wanted to argue, but I pretended as if I suddenly wanna puke again. He made to carry the waste-bin again, but I signaled him to rub my back instead and he did.
“Hurry, go buy the grape and ice cream” I urged him.
“But I can’t leave you alone”
“I’ll be fine” I told him.
He stared at me for a moment, then planted a lingering kss on my forehead and dashed out.
I scoffed and shook my head.
“This is just the beginning, wait until my cravings and mood swings start” I said to myself with a smirk playing on my lips.
