HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 31 – 40
THIRD PERSON’S pov.
An Anonymous Office
Mr anonymous sat held a photo frame in his hands, he stared at a very beautiful woman who was smiling brightly, and a little boy of about five years old, who doesn’t seem to be paying attention to the camera but the candy in his hands.
There was a sudden knock on the door, which made Mr anonymous slammed the photo on the table, covered it with a random file and adjusted himself on his chair.
“Come in” he said.
The door pushed open and his assistant walked in.
“Sir” he greeted Mr anonymous with a bow.
“Hm” Mr anonymous hummed.
“Sir, I just got news from our men”
“What?”
“It seemed like we’ve overlooked a very vital clue and evidence, and it’s now in Duncan’s hands as we speak”
“What clue?” Mr anonymous asked.
“There were two people in that truck, the driver and his errand boy”
“So?” Mr anonymous asked impatiently, it seemed like he’s already known where his assistant was heading.
“We didn’t think he’d be a barrier, so we didn’t make any arrangements for him and….”
“Will you quit beating around the corner?!” he growled and banged on the table.
“Duncan’s men has located the errand boy….”
“What?!” Mr anonymous growled as he banged on his table again, but louder than the first time.
He reached for the landline on his table and threw it at his assistant, but his assistant was fast enough to dodge it.
“You’re all useless!” he bellowed further. “I planned everything meticulously, how can you make such a silly mistake to ruin it?!”
“We’re very sorry, sir, it’s just… ”
“Sorry for your pathetic lives!”
Mr anonymous sprang up his chair, rounded his table and landed a pvnch on his assistant’s nose.
“First, it was that old woman and now it’s the errand boy, are you trying to say the driver will fall in his hands next?!”
“No, sir” the assistant answered, as he held his br©ken nose.
Mr anonymous glared at him for a while.
“Quick, try every thing you can to get the errand boy back, and find a good time to kidnap the bçh; Mrs Baldwin!” he said pointing at Tasha Wood’s magazine laying on the table.
“Yes, sir” his assistant answered with a bow, and rushed out as if his pants were consumed by fire.
HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 31 – 40
RACHEL’S pov.
Huntington Memorial Hospital, LA
“Come on, Fatima, it’s not as if I’m going alone” I pleaded with Fatima pressing hard on her right arm, but her face remained stoic.
It’s been ten minutes since I was begging her to sneak me out, I’ve been begging her since Duncan left to buy me some rice pudding.
Right, he’s long back with the grape and ice cream I had requested for earlier, but I lied to him that I’m craving rice pudding and sent him to go buy some, with the intention of convincing Fatima to take me to my cafe but… convincing her to work against her boss’ order is harder than I thought.
Like seriously, I’m just realizing she’s more loyal to Duncan than me, is she still my best friend now?
“…oh, she’s not even listening to me” she snapped her fingers across my eyes, making me blink a few times.
“What? Have you finally agreed to sneak me out?”
She glared at me and scoffed.
“Rachel, your husband gave strict warning not to let you step foot out of your ward, I’m obviously digging my own grave if I sneak you out” she said.
I sighed, trying to make myself look pitiful.
“My mind is greatly troubled because…”
“Because you left your cafe open” she interrupted me, and completed my words.
I stared at her with pouted lips, my best puppy eyes and quivering lips as I was silently begging her to cooperate with me, but my evil best friend scoffed and averted her gaze from my face.
“That…” she pointed at my facial expression. “.. won’t work on me this time, because I still need my head to stay glued to my neck” she said.
She wiggled her arm from my death grip and sat on the armchair, she reached for her phone and started scrolling through it.
“Mr Baldwin already sent some men to lock up your cafe for you, and don’t worry about your money in the drawer, they’re gonna bring it back to you”
“You’re a traitor!” I barked at her. “You turn your back on me once you saw Duncan!” I said through gritted teeth.
Her shoulders shake as she laughed at my desperation and helplessness.
“Well, I must be loyal to him, he’s the one paying my salary after all” she raised her head and winked at me, which earned her a malicious glare from me.
“I can pay you too, tell me….”
Fatima interrupted me with a loud, hysterical and mocking laugh, she stared at me with wide eyes and pointed at me while laughing.
“What’s so funny? You think I can’t pay you?” I asked narrowing my eyes questioningly.
She laughed a few more seconds, then sobered up a little bit and wiped the corner of her eyes.
“Sure, you can pay me, but I know you won’t”
“Why did you say so?”
“Isn’t obvious?” I raised my eyebrows. “You’re too stingy and wouldn’t spend a cent on something that won’t benefit you”
I grinned at her last statement, because it’s very true.
“You know me too well” I said and we both raised our hands for a high-five.
That’s why she’s my best friend, she knows me so well and we’re always in sync.
“You’re right about me not spending my hard, earned cent on something that won’t benefit me”
“Hm” she nodded in agreement.
She reached for my grapes, but I slapped her hand away and threw her a harsh glare which she scoffed at, and snatched some grapes anyway.
“Tell me how much he pays you monthly and I’ll pay you double” I leaned forward, grabbed her by her collar and looked her straight in the eyes. “I wanna buy your loyalty” I said, then gnashed my teeth playfully at her -though her loyalty is naturally mine.
Fatima scoffed.
“You can’t pay ten percent of my salary, babygirl, just give up already”
“Just try me” I insisted.
She stared at me for a moment as though she’s weighting wether to say it, or not.
“Well, if you insist” I nodded. “Mr Baldwin pays me $7000,000 every month”
My eyes widened, I gulped but couldn’t swallow my own spit.
“A-are you sure?” I asked in a stutter.
“Hm” she hummed in response.
I grinned.
“Don’t worry, just stay loyal to him and him alone” I told her. “I don’t like buying loyalty, because loyalties that are bought with money don’t last” I told, kinda consoling myself in the process.
She laughed at me. I frowned as I mentally calculate the figures Duncan’s paying her into her account every month, then gasped as realization dawned on me and I stared at her surprisingly.
“You know what?” she gave me her attention. “I just realized you’re richer than me, way richer than me” I said.
She chuckled lightly.
“Nope, that’s not true”
“It is, my cafe can only pay me $90,000 monthly and that’s already the highest income” I said.
She rolled her eyeballs at my exaggeration.
“We aren’t talking about the money you’re making from your small cafe here”
“Then what are we talking about?” I asked.
“Your husband sends you a million dollars everyday, doesn’t that mean you’re earning thirty million dollars every month just being a housewife?”
“Oh”
“Yeah, oh” she mocked me. “I think being a housewife is more favourable, won’t you consider shutting down your cafe?” she asked suggestively.
I eyed her for making such suggestion.
“I don’t recognize that money, I only recognize the money coming from my cafe, the money I earned from working with my hands” I shrugged.
She stared at me for a moment, then shook her head.
“You’re so weird” she sighed.
“Yeah” I grinned. “So…what about my request, sneak me out?” I blinked innocently.
“Nope, and don’t make me seal tape your mouth” she said sternly, she got up and walked towards the door to shut it.
I pouted my lips at her words, I reached for a pillow and threw it at her, but she turned around quicker than I thought making her squat in time and dodged the pillow.
But coincidentally, it landed on Mike who just walked in, he caught the pillow and gave us a questioning look.
“I heard someone was involved in a serious fight and passed out” he sighed “I thought she’d be in a critical condition right now but…” he trailed off and shook his head. “Ouch!” he groaned in pain as he was smacked at the back of his head by Jacinta.
“Are you cvrsing her?” she asked as she walked in with a bouquet of flowers. “Can’t you see it’s not as serious as I made it sound?”
Fatima and I exchanged looks, we’re both thinking the same thing; as serious as she made it sound?
I blinked as I tried to understand what they (Mike and Jacinta) are saying. Are they actually thinking I’d be bedridden? Or they’re praying I’d be bedridden? I don’t seem to understand.
“Here you go” Jacinta handed me the flowers. “Are you alright?” she asked referring to my head.
“Yeah, thank you for the flowers” I walked towards the small bedside table and sat the flowers on the table, resting it against the wall.
“I was worried sick when Fatima told me about your fight with Tasha, I thought I would see you in heavy bandage and all” she paused briefly. “But thank goodness, you’re fine”
Mike cleared his throat.
“Yeah, that’s why she lied to me” he grumbled but we heard him perfectly clear.
“You lied to him?” I asked Jacinta.
She laughed.
“Don’t mind him, he’s just being a baby” she said.
She walked closer to me and sat on the armchair Fatima was sitting, while Fatima and I sat on the bed.
“He refused to give me a ride here, so, I lied to him that your condition is very critical and you’re still in a coma no one knows when you’re gonna wake up…” Fatima and I laughed. “… that’s how I got him to agree” she said and joined us in our laughter.
I shook my head at her story, men are such unruly species and we can only get them under our control with deception -well, I’m happy Mike and his fiancee are getting along well.
“Trust me, I won’t fall for your trick next time” Mike said.
“Trust me, baby, you’ll never stop falling for my tricks” she replied him and we all burst into laughter, including Fatima who doesn’t like Mike.
