HOUSE OF THORNS
Episode 7
Mrs. Mcmorrit was talking with Tricia about what her dad told her when they spoke the previous night. But it appeared Tricia was absent-minded, and that was quite unlike her.
“What is wrong with you Tricia? You’ve been acting really strange since you got back from work.
Are you sure you’re okay?” she asked her daughter, tapping her gently on the shoulder as she stood still, not saying a thing.
“Sorry mum, I just kinda blanked out” Tricia said calmly. “I know you blanked out alright, what I’m asking is what’s making you seem so lost” her mother asked again.
“Its really not a big deal mum. Don’t worry yourself about me, I’ll sort out those things soon. I’m just worried about how he’ll feel about it” she replied, confusing her mother the more.
“Speak English?” her mother asked a bit louder than she should have, and Valerie came bouncing in through the door, almost as if her mother’s voice had brought her in.
“Hey! What’s the hullabaloo all about mum?” she asked her mother who was looking way too worried. “And why is my sis standing and staring into space like one whose husband had just taken a new wife?”
“Sis? What’s going on?” Valerie quizzed her sister, getting agitated at how her mother and sister had managed to keep the atmosphere as tensed as it was. None was makimg any attempt to respond to her questions and she wasn’t liking it.
“Val, I’m having a major issue at the company. A major collaboration is hanging by a tiny thread as we speak because the man whose job it is to take care of the deal, is missing in action.
I really do not think he just absconded for no reason, so I’m worried about what would happen if I replace him so easily after all he has done for the organization.
But I’m in a dilemma because I can’t let the space remain since I’m currently too busy to fill up for him” Tricia explained.
“And how do you know he didn’t abscond for no reason? How can you tell he hasn’t got a new job for himself?” Mrs Mcmorrit asked her daughter logically.
“I know Mr Leonard, if he got a job, if he had.any reason to leave Mcmorrit Holdings, it won’t be in the middle of a task as important as he’s currently handling.
I know he’d honourably resign when he sees the need to switch from Mcmorrit Holdings, and not just bolt away over night. So no, he hasn’t got a new job. Something is definitely wrong somewhere”
“And who’s that special employee that could get you this worried? Could it be that cute dude from yesterday?” Valerie asked mischievously winking at her sister.
“This is no time for jokes Val. I’m being serious here. And if you’re a serious person, I won’t be this bothered, I’d simply ask you to cover for him until I find out exactly what’s up with him” Tricia complained, almost frustrated.
“And just what makes you feel I can’t fill in for him? What makes you think I can’t do anything when I’m ready to do it? Look sis, the only reason I have been keeping away from that company is to avoid dad making me get a full time job there, making me have to work as hard as you do, I’ll have no time to look pretty.
I can do any job I choose to do, if I put my mind to it!” she told her sister.
And Tricia knew she was saying the truth when she said so. Valerie was a beauty with brain, and this had been one of her major ace since her childhood days.
And so, their mum sat smiling as the two sisters bickered for as long as it took for Valerie to agree to step in for Mr Leonard until Tricia was able to find out the true situation of things with him.
She had known for a while that something was wrong, what she didn’t know was what it actually was, that got him staying away from a collaboration he knew was so important to the organization.
She had been waiting, hoping that he’d call or at least send an SMS to let her know what was happening, but the day had dragged on to an end without his call, but when she got into her room, she dressed up quickly to go see Vince; she was too afraid to call Leonard. What if there was really a bad news?
“Hey darling” Vince said at the other end of the phone. “How did you day go?” Tricia was already seated in her car, about to drive out, so she connected her Bluetooth ear plugs and drove out.
“Very tiring and every bit of burdensome” she told him, sounding too downcast that Vince left what he was doing immediately. “Are you okay sweet? Where are you now?” he asked all at once
“Driving towards your ranch already” she replied briskly. “I’ll see you soon then” he told her and hung up to quickly finish what he was doing before she got to the ranch.

A few moments later, Vince was convincing Tricia to call Mr Leonard immediately and be sure of what was going on.
And then, she made the call, while seating between Vince’s thighs, with him massaging her shoulders as if to boost her morale.
“What! Oh, that’s so sad…I’ll be on my way now” she said and hung up quickly. She told Vince about Leonard’s wife and the duo were racing towards the hospital a few moments later.
“What happened? Is she okay?” Tricia asked with all the concern in the world as she stood with her fingers laced with Vince’s for support there.
Mrs Bradford looked at the two love birds that had come to see her daughter and she was shaking her head in obvious disappointment in her daughter. So, she had just lost her pregnancy to a baseless accusation?
How could this lady who appeared helplessly in love with the man that emitted nothing but love for her have the time to run after Vivian’s husband? She thought painfully.
And from the pictures she’d seen, even though they had been cleverly blotched, she could tell this lady wasn’t the one in them! “What a f00lery Vivy, you’ve been played, big time!” she soliloquized.
“Excuse me ma’am?” Tricia asked, not quite getting what the older woman was saying. And why was Leonard not talking? Could it be the grief of losing the very thing that had made him so motivated to work as hard as he’d been working?
“I’m sorry my dear, I’m just too worried about my daughter that I keep speaking to my self.
The doctors couldn’t save the innocent child, so we’re waiting for her to get stabilized before we’re sent home.
Thanks for coming to see her” Mrs Bradford said concisely and got up to check the infusion still dropping into her daughter.
Tricia and Vince expressed their heartfelt sympathies and made their way out after Tricia had told Leonard to take all the time he needed to be with his wife at that trying time.
She had made an arrangement for someone to stand in for him until he’s fully back.
