Episode forty six
Vee
It’s Paul, the traitor!
He’s the one person I trusted enough and told about my uncles abuse but he betrayed me and ratted me out.
Maya almost got rapped because of him!
What is he doing here?!
” Vee… Is that you? ” he asks looking kind of confused. ” Your uncle has been searching everywhere for you and Maya. ”
Doesn’t he recognized me or is it one of his tricks!
” Uumh… ” I try to say but nothing comes out. Am still trembling from the inside and I hope he can’t see it.
Sht! I have to stop acting so dmn nervous!
” I am not vee, ” I say trying to sound as normal as i can and I swear it’s taking everything in me. ” You must have me confused with someone. ”
” Are you sure? You look just like her. ”
” Am sure, excuse me, ” I say walking out.
Once am out of his sight, i stop and let out a huge breath. My heart is dreaming in my ear and am still too shocked to move.
Am sure he’s here looking for us and knows that Maya is admitted in this hospital. I have to get her out of there before they do anything to her, but how?
” Nick! He’s surely going to help” I think out loud my eyes roaming around , in search of a cab. I stop one as soon as i spot it and hop in.
Thirty minutes later, am outside Nicks apartment knocking on his door like a mad person.
” Vee, what’s wrong?!” he asks the second he opens the door.
” I need your help, ” I say walking in. ” Please help me get my sister out of the hospital, please. ”
” Vee..? ” Alex calls from behind and I turn, surprised to see him. ” Are you okay? ”
” Am fine. Am sorry Nick, I didn’t mean to interrupt, ” I say my voice low.
” But why are you so worked up? ” Alex asks concerned. ” Is Maya in any kind of trouble? ”
I look at him contemplating on whether to tell him and I decide not to. I know he’s helping me out a lot but I still can’t trust him, especially now when he’s acting so indifferent with me for no reason.
” She’s okay. I just need to talk to Nick alone, please, ” I say and see something like pain flickering in his eyes.
Oh now he’s acting hurt! Doesn’t he know how much his coldness is killing me? !
” Okay… But if it’s about Mike been out of prison, you should know that I already know about it, ” Alex says and my Jaw almost drops.
Mike is out? How did that happen?!
That per.vert might decide to hurt my sister to!
” Why do you look so surprised? Didn’t you know? I thought that’s the reason you want Maya out of the hospital. ”
” Of course I knew about it. What I didn’t know is that… You guys knew to. Am scared Mike might use her to get to me, ” I say partly lying but you can’t blame me. This is the best way to get my sister out of the hospital, without anyone finding out about my dark past.
I had all the intentions of telling Nick the entire truth about my past, excluding the rappe, but now I don’t have to.
“But how did he manage to get out? ” I ask.
” Well, it turns out he knows someone influential, who got him out on bail. But don’t worry, he still has to go to court, and we’ll make sure he looses the case, ” Nick says taking a seat.
” But as long as he’s out, we are all in danger!”
” I know but he won’t dare come near you. He knows I won’t hesitate to kill him if he does, ” Alex says his voice filled with anger.
” Okay, but what about Maya? ”
” Am sure we’ll get a way for her to be taken care of at home if that’s what you want, but we need to talk to her doctor first,” Alex says.
” Okay.. But in the mean time could you ask Leo to watch over her, please? ”
” Don’t worry, I already assigned someone to watch over her the minute she was admitted. I knew that the guys that are after Ava could try and hurt her again, ” he says and I sigh with relief.
” I didn’t know that, thank you. ”
” You know it’s the least I could have done after what she did for Ava. ”
” Okay, ” I’ll see you guys at the hospital, in about two hours. ”
” But, where are you going? You know you can’t be alone with Mike out there! I’ll come with you, ” Alex says.
” I’ll be fine, ” i say and start walking out but Alex gets in my way.
” This is not the time to be stubborn. Don’t you get that you are in danger! If you don’t want me to come with then Nick will, ” he says angrily.
” I can take care of myself and didn’t you just say that Mike won’t dare come close to me. ”
” I know ,but we still can’t risk it! What is this important thing you have to do anyway? ”
” Nothing ! ”
” Vee, come on, ” Nick says. ” You know Alex is right and if you don’t want any of us to accompany you, atleast tell us where you are going so we wont be worried. ”
” Am going to look for a place to rent. ”
” What?! Alex asks. ” But you already have a place to stay . ”
” That’s not my place Alex, it’s yours and I think it’s about time I moved and got back to my life. ”
” But how will you manage to take care of Maya? You know she’ll need a nurse to be at her beck and call, and that’s not cheap Vee. ”
” I’ll find a way. It’s always said that God can’t give you something you can’t handle and I think it’s about time I handled my problems. ”
” Nick, can you please knock some sense into her! ” Alex say furiously, his hand messing up his hair.
” Vee, You know you don’t have enough money for any of this right now,” Nick says. “Think about Maya, she needs better care and treatment and we are still not sure how long she’ll be in a coma. At least wait until she’s awake, then you can move out, okay? ”
“” But…
” Please vee, it’s for your own good. We love you and want you to be safe, stop making it hard for us, ” Nick insists.
It’s not like I don’t appreciate them helping me out, I just dont want them to get caught up in my mess, especially now that my uncle has already found us. I don’t think I can ever forgive myself if anything happened to any of them because of me.
” Okay, we should get going then. I need Maya out of the hospital as soon as possible. ”
” Do you need me there? ” Nick asks.
” No, I’ll take care of everything, ” Alex says opening the door.
” Bye Nick. ”
” Bye”
” What’s your problem with me? ” Alex asks as soon as we are on the road.
” What are you talking about? I dont have any issues with you.”
” Then why do you want to leave the house? Didn’t I already tell you that you can stay there as long as you want. Thats your house to. ”
” Look Alex, it’s not like I don’t appreciate the hospitality you’ve given me, ” I say letting out a sigh. ” I just want to live my life like I used to, without rellying on anyone. ”
” Did George ask you to leave the house?he asks surprising me.
” Why would he ask me that? ”
” There”s no need to pretend anymore vee, I already know the truth. ”
” What truth?! ”
” I know that you and George are seeing each other, ” he says.
” What? That’s not true! ”
” Stop lying! ” He says through gritted teeth.
” Am not lying. ”
” Okay, ” he says parking the car on the side of the road and takes out his phone, flipping through it. ” Explain this then, ” he says handing it to me and i can’t believe what am looking at right now.
How did he even get this? ”
