MAMA, I MADE IT!??

Episode 30.

The vacation went so smooth that I added weight that made me scared and looked for solution to trim down, and a fresh semester began soon!

We based in the hospital this around and this was the interesting part of my studies, though hectic but it was worth it.

There was no time for play and jokes anymore, and for the first time Charity became serious, she came to love what she was doing and I was happy.

Though a lot of our colleagues didn’t succeed in joining us in this fresh year after the powerful examination we sat, but somehow Charity keeps surprising me, despite she prays to fail she keeps making it and now she’s doing so well.

From time to time I do check on my mom, but she was doing good though not too good but I just had to keep having faith she will come around.

Success on the other hand left the state, he was given a good job and sadly we couldn’t see again but could only talk on phone from time to time because of our busy schedules………

A year later Success mom called I should come to the hospital and I hurried down there.

I got into my mom room and saw her chained on the bed and wondered what exactly is going on when she was getting better.
“Ma what’s going on? I thought……… “Yes she will be fine, we were actually expecting this but don’t be scared she is only reacting to what we gave her, she cut in.

“But the chains on her why? I asked.
“To stop her from hurting herself, but I want to ask, who do you think did this to your mother? She asked.

“My step mom, I replied.
“Are you sure or just guessing? She asked.

“What can i say? My mom is the only person to tell but now she can’t talk, what is going to happen? I asked back and she heaved.

“Your mom case is difficult I must confess, sometimes we get confused but we don’t have to give up hope because I gave you my word and I’ve come to love the fact I decided to help you, she said and I hugged her.

“It’s okay darling, what about your studies? She asked and I began to laugh which she joined me.
“Ma don’t mind me I’m laughing o, its not funny at all, I replied.

“I know, I once was there you know, she said.
“Yea its not easy, I said.

“And if there’s anything you want to learn I told you already you can reach me on phone and I’ll help out. When I was thinking one of my children will read my line of profession to take over you know, but they just went very very far from my expectations,but what can I do? She asked and I smiled.

“But ma they are doing well in their field. Success is a wonderful lawyer and Sonia is doing pretty well in the mass communication she is studying, I said.

“Can’t they go into science and who will be managing this when I’m gone? Anyway that aside but I’m just a call away if you need anything alright, she said.

“Thank you so much ma, I’ll hurry off now, I said.
“Sure bye, she said and I held my mom hands for a few minutes and left………..

6 years gone and our final exams was over!
I and Charity Came out of the hall looking so tired and scared, we just prayed it comes out well.

Charity dad surprised us, he was just waiting outside to congratulate us and that brighten our mood and eased our nerves.

The day finally Came we will be awarded an M.B.B.S degree and as well be inducted and given the license to be a professional doctor.

We were just 10 that succeeded out of 28 of us who were admitted which we lost 1 to an accident and Alfred who is in jail.

On the eve of the induction with the preparation and decoration going on, I wasn’t happy. Our department already threw a party that evening and I quietly watched them as they drank and dance but my mind was far away.

I thought about my mom but got more sad she won’t be here tomorrow, then I took my phone and typed down my dad number. I wondered if he has ever tried my number because I angrily changed my line after he blocked me, but if he had me in mind he would have come visit even for once but he hasn’t in 6 years.

But then I wanted him to see me on that special day of my life, I wanted him to see I finally made it but I sniffed and canceled the number I typed.
But I typed it again and sent him a text,
“I don’t know if you’ll be there, but I just want to see you on my special day tomorrow.
I’ll be inducted and I pray to see you there. Purity, I sent giving the address below and sent it and a tear dropped from my eyes which I cleaned it off quickly,

“Hey come over here! Charity shouted and dragged me from where I sat to join the game going on……….

That morning few of our friends decided to do our makeups, congratulations were in every side and corner and Charity was feeling fly.

I just laughed knowing the person so happy didn’t even want to become a doctor, but somehow passion came in and its blowing her head.

We walked into the hall when we were called in and my eyes were on the people in the hall as they stood up welcoming us.
I saw Charity family and few of my neighbors from the village and the politician wife who took it upon herself to buy me textbooks.

I gave a little smile and passed with my colleagues, and that was when Success and his family hurriedly walked in and he winked at me before I sat down.

Whatever that was talked in the hall didn’t enter my ears until I heard claps from people and I’ll join them in clapping.

My family were not here, even my dad I texted last night didn’t even call back nor is he present here. And Success didn’t bring my mom along though she is still not sound, every thought broke my heart was I sat with my head bowed absentminded.

The time came for the degree to be given to us, and I understood there was nothing as grades as long as we scored best in the final exams we took.
The first name was called and he got up to go get his as his family screamed out for him.

I closed my eyes tight so anxious and another name was called. Charity in that excitement looked at me clapping and i forced a smile, and her name was called next. I stood up clapping for her and looked at the people present but my family were not still there.

Charity returned to her seat and i gave her a hug and my name was called.

“Congratulations, Charity whispered to me as I left her to go get mine but when I stood out to take the handshake already waiting for me I heard noises outside the hall like someone is being restricted to enter.

That caused a little distraction as I was still shaking the man but our attention was directed to the door wondering who it was but the person pushed in and behold it was my mother on her patient wear as she attempted to run meet me.
“Purity! I heard my mother shout when the men wanted holding her.

“Mama! Mama! I shouted running toward her which Success mom was already talking to the men holding her and we hugged ourselves tight.

“Mama I made it, I made it mama, your daughter is a doctor now, I said touching her face as she smiled at me but then I remembered something.
“You can talk? I asked and confusedly looked at Success mom who was confuse herself.

Everyone was looking at us not understanding anything and my mom gently touched my face and began talking but it wasn’t clear.
“Mom you Can talk?! I shouted hugging her again crying and Success mom held me.

“Dear they are waiting for you up there, she gently said and I nodded which she took my mother hands to sit with her and I slowly walked up to the men waiting for me.
“I’m sorry, I said and sniffed.

“It’s okay, congratulations again, the man said giving me my degree and took pictures with me with the dignitaries there but my eyes was just on my mom.

I went back to my seat and prayed everything should be over already, I was so uncomfortable and Charity held my hand and nodded at me.

“How did she get here? I whispered in her ears.
“We will talk about this later okay, Charity said and a chance was given to us the celebrants to say something…… A kind of vote of thanks.

A guy stood up first saying all he could and Charity stood up as the 6th person appreciating her father for having faith in her and also to me for being the only friend and sister she could ever ask of while in school.

A guy said something after her and I slowly stood up and took the microphone and swallowed when nothing was coming out of my mouth for about a minute I was with the Microphone and I coughed.

“Standing here today is the daughter of a mad woman, i finally said and people began to murmur.
“Yes, she is the one I hugged minutes ago, and I’m happy she is my mother.

This is for her, when I look at her I see the motivation to make it. I think I took my braveness from her, despite being in that condition she is brave and I admire that in her.
I wanted to be her voice even when she can’t talk, and I took the bold step despite I had to sponsor.

My father isn’t here, he abandoned us but that’s not a problem, God sent help for me through the loving father of my friend Charity who stood in the gap of being a father to me, Sir Felix, God bless you, I said and he stood up waving at me as people applauded.

“And I won’t also forget one important person in my life, I call him Angel because he has always been there in every difficult challenge i ever had. Success, thank you! I said and he stood up smiling,
“Congratulations baby! He shouted and I smiled.

“Thank you, and to his mom who is treating my sick mother, a doctor also who took it upon herself free Of charge to see my sick mom gets better.

You don’t know what you’ve done for me ma, hearing my mom called my name for the first time in so many years is something I will never forget, thank you so much ma, I said and Success mom stood up indicating herself as people applauded.

“Sorry I’m taking too much time, but you may not understand what I’m trying to say, but in all this I’m happy God saw I and my loving sister through despite what came our way.

Thank you to everyone who believed in me, thank you to every one who supported me during my stay in school, from my heart I say thank you, I said bowing my head and left for my seat as someone else came out to say something………..

We matched out after the ceremony and I hugged my mom first as she came out to meet me,
“Pictures please! Camera man bia don’t let me hit you o! Charity shouted at the man as he was kind of delaying and we took pictures together.

I pulled off the ceremonial gown I wore putting it on her to at least hide the patient wear she was putting on.

Charity dad decided to take us out though Success mom had a call from the hospital complaining my mom is missing.
“She’s with me, and you all will answer me when I get back. You all will explain how she flew down here! She shouted and dropped the call and Sonia touched her to calm her down.

“So we will be right behind you Sir, Success mom told Mr Felix as his car was already filled with Charity family, and we all got into Success car met them in an eatery.

“How did you get here? Success mom tried interrogating my mom and my mom tried talking stammering very seriously and we came to understand she got into the boot of the car.
“You must be kidding me, Success Mom said not believing it.
