Chapter 81
“What are you doing here, by the way?” Evelyn asked as they released the hug.
“Well, I don’t have any class today, so I thought of spending it with Evelyn,” Charlotte said, smiling at Evelyn.
“But I’m busy.”
“It doesn’t matter. I’ll stay in the office with you,” she said, and Evelyn nodded.
“Okay, I’ll go to my office now,” Evelyn said, and the two girls walked out, leaving Martin, who was just frowning.
“Probably I can’t kss her today,” he muttered to himself.
His phone rang, and he rolled his eyes when he saw it was Cole calling.
“What?” he asked as soon as he picked up the call.
“Is Charlotte with you?” Cole asked.
“Yeah, she said she’s free today,” Martin said, and the other sighed.
“Okay,” he simply said and ended the call, making Martin scoff.
“Is something going on between them?” he muttered to himself and turned to look at his sister through the glass.
“So, how has your relationship with my brother been?” Charlotte asked.
They were both inside Evelyn’s office, and Evelyn was busy arranging the files.
“Hmmm, the best, I would say. He’s really changing a lot, and hmm, I want to ask you a question.”
“Go ahead.”
“Do you know Maria?” Evelyn asked as Charlotte just stared at her.
She did not want to hurt her by telling her Maria is the girl her father wants Martin to marry, but she already knows anyway.
“You don’t have to keep silent, Charlotte.”
“She is the girl Dad wants Martin to get married to,” she said, and Evelyn nodded.
“But hey, you know my brother is never going to do that, right?” Charlotte asked, and Evelyn shrugged her shoulders.
“I don’t know what to say,” Evelyn said, and she just sighed.
“Trust me, only my dad is doing this. Neither me nor my mom support him,” Charlotte said, but Evelyn didn’t answer her.
“I want to ask you a question,” Charlotte said, and Evelyn just nodded, indicating her to ask her question.
“What do you do if… if… the person doesn’t love you back? I mean, he doesn’t want to love you back because he is friends with your brother,” Charlotte said, and Evelyn stared at her suspiciously.
“Are you in love?” Evelyn asked, and Charlotte pretended to cough.
“Me?… of course not,” she stuttered, and Evelyn rolled her eyes.
“My friend is the one who is,” she replied, and Evelyn nodded.
“Well, if he doesn’t reciprocate her love, then she should find someone who does.
But if she thinks he is scared because of her brother, then she should not give up on him and plead with her brother to give them a chance,” Evelyn said, and Charlotte nodded.
Evelyn gasped as she looked at her wristwatch, and she quickly stood up.
“Hmm, your brother and I have a business meeting with one of our clients, so I’ll see you in a few hours,” Evelyn said, and Charlotte nodded before she walked out of the office.
