Chapter 81

She entered Martin’s office, and he was sitting down, typing something on his laptop.

“Hey, it’s time for a meeting with Mr. Collins,” she informed, and Martin nodded.

“But seriously, I just wish to go off today so I can be with you,” he said, and Evelyn laughed.

“Mr. Martin,” he stood up as Martin walked in, and they both shook hands.

“Good day, Mr. Collins,” Martin said, and they both sat down.

Mr. Collins is a man in his late 30s, handsome and really friendly.

Recently, his company has been experiencing financial difficulties.

“So, what has he requested from us, Eve?” he said, drinking slowly from his coffee.

“As Mr. Collins mentioned, he promised to give us some shares of his company if he is unable to pay the 50 million dollars he requested from us.

His company is facing bankruptcy now and he needs 50 million naira to resolve it,” Evelyn read out.

“Shares won’t be enough. We need to save your company from bankruptcy, so that alone isn’t sufficient for us to believe you’ll pay us back,” Martin said, and Mr. Collins sighed.

“Hmmm, I promise you, Martin. I will pay you back. No one wants to mess with you,” he said, and Martin chuckled.

“Hmmm, okay,” he simply replied, and Mr. Collins sighed in relief.

Evelyn gently placed the paper on the table.

Martin read it and reached out his hand to Evelyn, who quickly handed him a pen.

He clicked his tongue before signing the paper, and the other man did the same.

“It’s nice doing business with you,” Mr. Collins smiled, extending his hand for a handshake, which Martin accepted.

“The meeting lasted 44 minutes, and your next meeting is with Mrs. Tasha at 1:30, and it’s already 1 o’clock,” Evelyn said as they walked through the long passage, and Martin scoffed.

“That woman lacks manners,” he said, and Evelyn chuckled.

She checked her phone and frowned when she saw 8 missed calls from Ava’s teacher. Almost immediately, her phone rang, and it was Haris calling.

“Hey, bestie,” she said as she answered the call.

“Hi, Evelyn. Is Ava with you by any chance?” he asked, and Evelyn frowned.

“She is at school,”

“No, she’s not,” he said, and Evelyn stopped walking immediately, causing Martin to do the same.

“Her class teacher said a young man came to pick her up after they closed, so I thought it was Martin,” Haris said, and Evelyn scoffed.

“What are you saying? Martin wasn’t the one,” she said panickily.

“That’s probably why her teacher was calling me,” she muttered.

“Oh my gosh,” Haris exclaimed, making Evelyn panic.

“They should check the CCTV cameras… I think…”

“Forget that nonsense, Haris!” she yelled, and Haris sighed, running his hand through his hair, while Martin stood there, not understanding what was going on.

“I… I think someone took… Ava,” he finally said, and Evelyn gasped, her phone slipping from her hand and slowly dropping to the ground.

“Evelyn, are you okay?” Martin yelled, grabbing hold of her as she suddenly started falling to the ground, but his voice seemed distant.
