Chapter 49
“Did you need anything?” Evelyn asked.
“No… Yes… No, I mean no,” Elizabeth stuttered, and Evelyn let out a sigh of relief. However, Elizabeth had seen everything through the glass.
She knew something was going on between them, but she didn’t want to bother Evelyn about it.
“Um, I was thinking we could have lunch together with my colleagues,” she said, and Evelyn’s eyes widened as she turned to look at Martin, who was just staring at her, wondering if she would accept such an offer.
“Of course, yes,” Evelyn said, turning to look at Martin, who had a strange expression on his face, clearly unhappy.
“Um, boss, I’ll see you later,” she said, quickly rushing out of the office.
Elizabeth bowed before walking out as well, leaving an angry Martin standing there.
“This is ridiculous. I can’t even have a proper conversation with my girlfriend or go out with her,” he groaned angrily.
He walked out of the office only to see Evelyn with a few people.
He groaned when he noticed a boy among them, and the thought of him holding her shoulder made it worse.
He took a deep breath, clenching his fists. He had promised Evelyn that he would change, and he genuinely intended to keep calm.
Evelyn’s eyes met his, and she winked at him while Martin scoffed. He took out his phone and sent her a message.
“Why is he holding your shoulder?” he sent, and Martin rolled her eyes.
“I feel kind of uncomfortable,” she said, pushing the young man away from her shoulder.
“Oh,” the young man said, clearly embarrassed.
“Are you happy now?” Evelyn sent, and Martin smiled, nodding in agreement.
They exchanged smiles, unaware that Elizabeth was watching them. A smile crept across her face as she observed them.
“Let’s go have lunch already,” Elizabeth said, pulling all of them along.
“I don’t trust that boy,” he muttered to himself, quickly taking out his phone.
He dialed his friends on a conference call.
“Hello, boss,” Noah said immediately.
“I was thinking we could hang out now,” Martin said.
“Forget it, I’m in school,” Cole said, and Martin made a disappointed sound.
“Well, I’m really busy with Tina right now,” James said, and Martin scoffed.
“I can’t make it either,” Noah said.
“Same here,” Liam added, and Martin huffed.
“Forget all of you,” he yelled and ended the call.
He ran his hand through his hair, trying to think, and suddenly smirked as an idea crossed his mind.
He quickly dialed a number on his phone.
“Hello, Haris speaking,”
“Hey, it’s me, Martin,” he said, surprising Haris on the other end of the line.
He was genuinely surprised that Martin called him.
“I was thinking we could have lunch together,” he said, and Haris chuckled.
“Okay. Are we becoming close?” he asked, and Martin chuckled. Deep down, he wanted to answer, but the stubborn part of him ignored the question.
“Hurry and meet me at the company,” Martin said and ended the call.
