“Didn’t you see the cake”.
“What cake? I said pretending not to notice the cake on my small stool.
“Valerie?
“Thanks for the cake”. I said and laid back on the bed so she can leave.
I hate it when I’m being deprived of my beautiful sleep.
“Won’t you at least blow the candles and wish for something? She said looking at my eyes.
“Turn on the lights then”. I used a command tone.
She stood up and switched the lights on. I saw those beautiful brown eyes of hers. I actually forgot the color of her eyes.
Her smile was faint . She looks so lean as if she’s suffering from a sickness .
For that moment. I was worried about her.
“Why are you worried about someone who doesn’t care about you? A voice said in my head.
I’m not worried. I’m just concerned as a normal human being.
“Normal human being you say? I’m your mind and I know what you’re thinking. I know what is in this big brain of yours”. The voice said.
“Please,leave me and let me be,let me face my own fears. I don’t need your help”. I chased the voice away.
“Here’s the cake”.
She said sitting on the corner of my bed with the cake on her lap.
“Thanks” . I stared at the beautiful cake with candles and Peebles with an inscription on it.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY VALERIE”
“Now make a wish”.
“I wish..I wish…I wish you’ll be happy,no matter what you’re facing and passing through. I just wish the heavens grant your heart peace and happiness”. I said with tears in my eyes.
“Valerie Matthews”. She said looking at my eyes.
She dropped the cake and threw me into her arms.
It was warm . I can’t even remember the last time we hugged each other.

MARTHA
“Mom? She called.
I stared into her hazel eyeballs.
She took that from Eddie .
She still cares about me despite what I’ve done .
She blew the candle and said her wish.
This is so unbelievable .
“Baby”. I rubbed her back. I ran my hand through her hair as her tears stained my shoulders.
“I don’t care about you,I just want you to be beautiful and happy,you look so stressed and unhappy.. please be fine”. She cried .
I couldn’t say a word .
She lied about not caring about me.
If she doesn’t she won’t say that .
I’m so happy she’s on my side.
I’m so happy that she has finally forgiven me.
What came to my mind was that the Happy birthday song.
“Happy Birthday to you , Happy birthday to you daughter, Happy birthday to you. How old are you now darling,how old are you now?
I sang.
She withdrew from my hug.
“Is that supposed to be a question? She said .
“Anything you think it is”. I smiled touching her cheek.

“I’m 16 Mom,I’m 16,it’s my 16th birthday,it’s been sixteen years,you and Dad never showed any love to me . You treated me like a mistake.
“Valerie? Mom called as she hugged me tight.
“Let me go! Let me go! Don’t hold me so tight! I’m suffocating..” . I cried hard.
“I’m sorry, I’m really sorry”. She sobbed too.
I remained silent as we both cried.
I don’t know when I fall asleep.

?THE NEXT MORNING ?
It’s actually a Saturday morning and yhayyy…..!!!
No school!
I got down from my bed trying to recollect what happened last night.
I had a slight headache.
I looked at myself in the mirror.
Gosh! Valerie you drool real bad
My hair was so messy too. I had no reason to do a makeup.
I’ll just go for jogging after greeting Nanny Jade and also to tell her about the weird dream I had last night.
I checked the small stool beside my bed for the cake . Because in my supposed dream ,the cake was on the stool but now It was no where to be found .
I had a conviction that it was a dream .
“Pffff”. That super duper cute cake.
So unbelievable I won’t get to taste out of it.
Those cute colorful Peebles too
I think I need to get myself a cake too.
I sighed when I remembered Mom’s eyes.
Do you miss her Valerie Matthews? I asked myself.
I sighed since I’ve got no answers to it. It only worsened my headache.
“Ouch,I need to take medicine because of this throbbing pain in my head”.
I headed for the stairs calling out to Nanny Jade.
“Nanny? I called.
Everywhere seems so silent.
Where is Nanny. I went to her room and checked it .
It was so tidy.
Probably, she’s in the garden watering the plants.
If she’s in the kitchen I would have smelt something so nice.
I hurried back to go to the dinning when I noticed another curtain in the sitting room.
That’s new and odd !
It was covered to divide the dinning room and the sitting room.
“Hmmm, strange and weird “. I decided to check what is behind the curtain
I saw few figures there.
Oh my goodness!
Did someone barge in? And hold Nanny as hostage? Or are they trying to use Nanny Jade as a bait to take me away?
I hope this birthday isn’t what I’m thinking .
I tip – toed to the kitchen and got a fry pan so I can smack it against that person’s face and I’ll escape with Nanny Jade.
My heart beat increased as I tip toed back to the sitting room.
