Episode 68

Zoey’s Perspective:

The next morning, I woke up, made breakfast, and got Axel ready for school.

We took a cab and finally arrived at the grand classical school building.

“I’ll come to pick you up, Axel. Remember, don’t go with anyone, okay?” I reminded him as we approached the gate.

“Sure, Mom,” he replied and held my hand tightly.

We reached the gate where some teachers were welcoming the students.

“Good morning, ma’am,” Axel’s teacher greeted me as I approached her.

“Good morning. How was your night?” I replied with a smile.

“It was fine. Thanks. Um… Axel, did you give my message to your mom?” She asked, and I looked at Axel, curious about the message.

What message?

“Axel?” She called, and he sadly shook his head.

What’s going on?

I looked at him, then back at the teacher.

“What message, please?” I asked curiously.

“Well… a letter was given to him about a week ago, and I have no idea why he didn’t give it to you.

He needs to clear his fees, or else, he won’t be allowed on the school premises next week,” she explained, and I felt worried.

Oh my God!

I moved a few steps away with Axel and squatted in front of him.

“Hey, why didn’t you tell me about this?” I asked, and he looked down sadly.

“I’m sorry, Mom. I didn’t want you to worry,” he replied, and my heart melted.

I smiled and gently rubbed his back.

“Thank you, son. But you shouldn’t keep such things from me.

Don’t worry, I promise you won’t get kicked out of school, okay? We’ll take care of your fees,” I assured him, and he nodded, still looking sad.

Then, I kssed him on the forehead before standing up and returning to the teacher.

“Please, ma’am. We’ll settle the fees. Thank you for letting me know,” I told her.

“Oh! It’s nothing. You’re welcome,” she quickly replied, smiling.

I handed Axel’s lunch bag to her and said goodbye.

“Bye, son. Be a good boy, okay?” I waved at him.

“Bye, Mom,” he waved back, his voice tinged with bitterness.

Oh, for goodness’ sake!

‘Come on, sweetheart. Give Mommy a smile,” I coaxed him, and he managed a funny smile that made me laugh, including the teacher.

I blew him a kss and finally left.

I boarded a cab and headed straight to my workplace, unable to stop thinking about Axel.

How can I clear his fees?

Gosh! I really need to do something. I can’t let him be kicked out of school. Never!

Resting my head against the window of the moving car, I continued pondering until we reached the company.

Finally.

I paid the cab fare, entered the building, and went through the security checkpoint.

At the reception, I requested to see Zach, the manager. The receptionist directed me, and I took the elevator.

After navigating through several corridors, I arrived at a place that seemed to be his office, but I couldn’t enter due to the presence of a woman I found outside the door.

She had her own desk and appeared to be a… secretary.

“Hi,” I greeted her with a smile.

“Yeah, good morning. How can I assist you?” She asked politely, taking her eyes off the computer.

“Um… I’m here to see Mr. Zach,” I replied.

“Do you have an appointment with him?”

“Kind of. I’m Zoey Scott, and… he asked me to come over this morning…”
