I paced around the living room as we got home, pinky is crying already and Helga is consoling her, though her sobs can be heard too
“How can they…. how can Steve do this?, How can he cowardly give in to the threats of that rotten mango….I thought he was my second brother, I care about him but all he can do is put me in trouble…. fk!” I cursed frustratedly
“I’m just short of words, Steve is Stanley’s best and only friend, it shouldn’t be him who’ll do this….I really am disappointed, and that Rihana, I knew it all along, my intuition is just right” pinky said in tears
“And Stanley, now that the truth is out, I really want to smack some sense into him, and Tyler, he hasn’t even looked for me…huh!” I ranted loudly as my phone started ringing
It’s Steve
I angrily picked
??what else do you want?, Aren’t you…..
?? The owner of this phone just got into an accident at Morgan’s road
?? What….what did you just say?
?? He got into a fatal accident at Morgan’s road
I threw my phone on the couch and faced Helga and pinky
“Steve… Steve had an accident” I stammered and saw their eyes widen, especially Helga
“Morgan’s road” I said and Helga and pinky stood to follow me
“No Pinky, you’ve stressed yourself out enough today, you should rest, stress is not a good idea for your condition” I said
“No Elvira, it’s Steve we’re talking about, I need to follow you guys” she insisted
“No Pinky, I still disagree, stay in” I insisted and rushed out with Helga
We drove to Morgan’s road and we were told the ambulance has taken him away to Steve hospitals, his hospital
I quickly drove to the hospital with Helga and in the first private ward, we saw the doctors just covering him with a White sheet
“What…. what… what just happened?, Why are you… covering him?” Helga stammered
“I’m sorry…..we actually…we lost him” one of the doctors said and Helga fell on her knees
“You’re actually joking right now, right?” I asked unbelievably
“His backbone got affected greatly, his brain is fractured, his tummy is stuck between the stirring and the seat, making it wounded badly, his face is disfigured and….
“Stop!!!” Helga shouted and rolled on the ground
“We just left him here, how come he got into an accident huh?, Steve you have to wake up, I still love you, just that what you did is bad, I won’t yell at you, I won’t hit you, I won’t hate you, you just have to stand up huh” Helga cried and tried to get closer to his body but she was stopped
I held Helga tight though I’m crying too, this is so unbelievable, is this how people die?
Just then, the evil sister rushed into the ward, Rihana
She ran past us and before anyone could stop her, she uncovered Steve’s body
It’s really disfigured, I can’t even look
Her hands started shaking and the sheets fell off them
Tears escaped her eyes
“No!!, No!, This can’t be true brother, no Steve, you’re the only one who loves me despite my foolishness, you can’t be dead, you can’t leave me alone!!!!” She shouted in tears and faced us, guilt and pain shadowed her face
“He told us already,he told us what you did, maybe the guilt caused him depression and that’s why he got into an accident” I said and more tears rushed down her face
“I feel like I killed my brother, if not for my foolishness, he would be alive, I just wanted someone to love me too, I wanted love without minding any way to get it!!…I never knew it’ll end up like this” she ranted
“And because of your love searching escapade, you killed your brother, he started running this hospital in less that two months ago, how can you push your brother to death” I said tearfully
“I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t mean to” she said and stood, she ran out of the ward staggering as if she’ll fall
? Hellen ?
I really don’t think I can stay home anymore, I want to know how Steve is doing too
I told dad I’m off to the grocery store though he declined but I sneaked out and walked down the street
I waited under the sun for a cab but couldn’t get one soon
Then I started feeling drowsy
? Stanley ?
I and Richard heard the news too and we were terrified, I suddenly started feeling guilty for punching him and shouting at him, maybe he got into the accident cos of depression
I and Richard were both driving to the hospital when I sighted someone at a bus station….. Krystal…what is she doing here?
“We should talk to her” he said as we both got out of the car, she saw us and made to walk away but she started going down…..I caught her before she could fall
“Krystal!, Krystal!” I called but I guess she fainted and her breathing is so low
“Since we’re going to the hospital, let’s take her” Richard suggested
We took her to the hospital and while Richard went to see Steve, I took Krystal to a private ward where she was attended to by nurses
“It’s really not healthy for a lady who’s two months pregnant to be stressing herself, she fainted due to stress and depression” the nurse said and my eyes widened
I didn’t even notice, I looked back at her on the bed and that’s when I noticed a small bulge on her stomach
“She’s really pregnant?” I asked to be sure
“Yes, two months pregnant, it’s just starting to bulge, she’ll be ok within minutes ” the nurse answered and went away
Tears escaped my eyes as I looked at her, she must have gone through a lot for the past three weeks, I’m such a j.erk for not trusting her, I wonder what I’ll do to earn her forgiveness
I turned to look at her again and found her staring at me
“You’re awake?”
“What am I doing here?, And what are you doing here?”
“You fainted at the bus station, Krystal, you didn’t tell me you’re carrying my baby” I said tearfully
She rolled her eyes at me hatefully and cleared her throat
“Wasn’t that what I came to tell the other day when I found Rihana undressing you?” She accused
I was about to defend myself when Richard rushed in with tears, I became alarmed
“What happened?” I asked hastily
“Steve….. he’s…he’s dead” he broke the news
“What!” I shouted
“This can’t be true!, Steve can’t be dead” Krystal exclaimed
We all Rushed there and met Elvira and Helga with the commissioner and other doctors
He’s really dead cos his disfigured body is laying lifelessly on the stretcher
“No!!!!!” I shouted and sat on the ground in tears
“Steve!!” Richard called in tears too
We almost cried our eyes out
The commissioner cried too but never made it visible, he did silently
Steve is his only good child
“My wife will be back tonight, you should embalm the body and he’ll be…. buried tomorrow” he said and broke down before going out sorrowfully
