Chapter Twenty Nine

Olivia drew herself closer to Barbie.
“How about we…work together to get back at her?” She asked.

Barbie smirked.
“No, I can’t. I’m not planning to do ev’l against her”

“Why? She made you brother sIap you and she made me lose my job. Isn’t that enough for us to work together?” Olivia asked, trying to make a point.

“It’s still a no!” She replied and stood up. She brought out a thousand dollar from her purse and placed it on the counter.

“Pay for yours and keep the change” she said and left.

“Barbie!” Olivia yelled as she watched as she left the club.

“Argh!” She groaned. “You’ll come back Barbie, I’m sure you will” she murmured.

Erica was on her way to work when she bumped into her brother. He was looking so tired and weak.

“I’m sorry George, how are you feeling now?”

“I’m getting better, thank you” he said.

“That’s good” she said and wanted to leave but he stopped her.

“I’m sorry for what I did yesterday. I was just mad, I don’t understand why Mars had to d!e” he said.

She placed her hand on his shoulders.
“You don’t have to worry too much, Josh’s helping me with the case, Mr Calvin is also helping me so do not worry. I’ll take care of everything”

“How can you say that? It’s our parents case, we have to solve it together”

“But it’s getting you ¢razy. How can you go into a building that was on fire? Well, they said it was a bomb, but never mind. You should still take the day off, I’ll talk to Mr Calvin on your behalf” she said and turned to leave.

“Thanks Erica and Happy birthday in advance” he said.

Erica smiled and walked out of the house. She grabbed her bag and started walking into crystal estate.

“Good morning ma’am Erica!” The gatekeeper greeted as he pushed the open button for her. She passed through the gate and walked towards the mansion.

“Hello!” She replied. She wondered how he knows her name.

She quickly entered into the house and went to Calvin’s room. She knocked the door and waited for a reply. She turned and stare at Kelvin’s room. She never wanted to enter his room again after ruining his bed.

“Sure! Just make sure the house is very attractive!”
She heard someone speaking so loudly behind her. She doesn’t need anyone to tell her that it was Theo so she didn’t bother to look back.

“Hey, Erica! Thanks for helping me”

She turned and stared at him without any glimpse of smile on her face.
“What exactly did I help you with?”

“You know, what you whispered into Kelvin’s ear. I didn’t hear that but I know that was the reason he allowed me in” he said.

“Whatever!”

They both paused when they heard one of the two doors flicker.
It was Kelvin’s. The door flung open and they saw his sleepy face.

Theo shook with fear and pretended to be on a call.
“Yes, about the house…” He started and walked away.

Erica looked away from Kelvin. She didn’t want to laugh because she saw something quite funny.

“Erica?” He called out.

“Yes master” she said without turning to stare at him.

“Come in…” He said.

“I’m waiting for your brother”

“You came quite early, he won’t wake till 8am” he said.

Erica finally turned and walked into the room. She sat on the sofa and stared at her phone.

“Are you avoiding me?” He asked.

“Avoiding you? No, I’m not” she said staring at him. She wished she could laugh out but she can’t.

“Then why can’t you stare at me?” He asked.

“Of course I am staring at you, do you want me to go closer to you to prove it?” She asked and Kelvin furrowed his eyebrows.

“Fine!” She stood up and went into his bathroom.

Kelvin was more confused. He just kept quiet and watched her. She came out with a towel, walking towards him.

“Did you forget to close your mouth when sleeping?” She asked, cleaning the side of his mouth. He drooled.

Kelvin looked partly embarrassed. He was just glaring at Erica as she stood in front of him, cleaning his mouth.

“All done!”

“Are you sure?” He asked and she nodded.

“I didn’t forget to close my mouth Erica” he said.

“I see!” She said and placed the towel around his neck.

“But I want to ask you a question” she said.

“What is it?”

She pulled the towel, pulling his head towards her. Kelvin frowned a little because it hurt.

“Why do you want me to teach you how to be nice?”

He waited for some seconds before answering the question. He removed the towel from his neck and wrapped it on her waist. He pulled it closer to his body.

“Because you are nice”

Erica’s heart skipped a beat. She never thought he would do the same thing with her.

“Uh… I think it’s 8am already. I should probably go”

“Why? Cos I’m not your boss?” He asked, letting go of the towel.

“Are you kidding me? How can you say that? You are also my boss since your brother’s my boss. I’m sorry for what I did, it was a mistake” she said and turned to leave.

He turned and watched her as she left.
“There’s no way we can ever be together” he murmured and left to the bathroom with the towel.

Erica was looking so tired where she sat. She turned and stared at Calvin, she envied the way he was so hardworking.

“I should take a short nap, he won’t know that I’m asleep” she said and checked her wrist watch.

“Just ten minutes, and I’ll wake up” she said and leaned her head on the desk.

Few minutes later…
“Erica?” Calvin called out and saw that Erica was asleep. He stood up and walked towards her seat.

“Oh jeez!” He smirked and brought out his phone.
He took pictures of her and blushed.

“She looks so cute when she’s asleep” he murmured and slid his phone into his pocket.

“Erica?” He called out again, stretching his hand to tap her.

“Barbie!” She yelled and started breathing hard.

“Barbie? What happened Erica?” Calvin quickly asked.

“She.. I.. you have to call her now. She’s going to lose her life if she go for that shoot” she said.

“Shoot?”

“Just call her!” She yelled.

“Fine, fine. Is she going to any shoot?” He murmured and dialed her number. He placed it on his ear and waited to hear her voice.

“Hey bro!”
He finally heard her voice. He sighed and leaned on her counter.

“Barbie? Where are you?” He asked.

“I’m in my car, I have a shoot actually and I’ll be late if you keep talking to me”

“You have to drive back home and don’t go anywhere near that shoot”

“Why? I have to go. My face have to be on that international magazine”

“I don’t care about your stupid face being on any magazine. I care about your life, so take a U-turn and head back home”

“Calvin…”

“It’s an order Barbie!!” He yelled.

“Fine…” She said and disconnected the call.

“What did she say?” Erica asked.

“She was on her way to the shoot but I asked her to go back”

“She was gonna die”

“Well, I still have to go check on her” he grabbed his keys.

“That would be nice”

“Coming?” He asked her, before heading out.

“Oh no, I have to finish some work” she said.

“I’ll be back soon” he said and head out.

Erica sighed and stared at her wristwatch.
“Ouch… I slept for an hour or more” she groaned and leaned her head on her desk again.

“Barbie?”

“Barbie?!!” Calvin yelled as he head into the house.

“Why are you screaming my name like an id!ot dude?” She yelled at him. She was upset that she didn’t go for the shoot.

“Well, I’m glad that you are home and didn’t leave the house” he said.

“Of course you are glad. But am I? You didn’t let me take that shoot. I want my face to be on that magazine. I’ll be more popular and get more fans but instead they choose my substitute, Jena”

“I don’t know who Jena is but…”

Suddenly, Barbie’s phone rang.
“It’s the director, why is he calling me?” She asked and answered the call.

“I’m apologising for not being…”

“Barbie… Jena got into an accident. I hope you can make it to the shoot tomorrow”

“What? I mean, sure I can to the shoot tomorrow”

“Nice, see you then” he said and disconnected the call.
.
“What happened?” Calvin asked.

“Jena got into an accident and it seemed serious. She’s not able to shoot again, so they choose me again” she squeaked and ran upstairs happily.

Calvin couldn’t believe what just happened. It supposed to be Barbie there but… Erica saved her life.

“Erica…” He muttered her name and left the house again.
