CHAPTER THIRTY – TWO

(Final Episode)

Alisa remained in the prison for some weeks before she appeared before the judge. Throughout, her detention, Martins was trying every connection he had, making moves to get smart and competent lawyer. He sought for help for Alisa so that she would not spend her entire life in the prison as she was already charged with murder.

Martins did not only result into physical effort, he went into prayer with the help of some of loyal friends who committed their time in praying for Alisa’s release.

Alisa in the prison was confused and her heart filled with diverse thoughts, she started to regret the day she was born as she muttered different things to herself.

“But why is it that I move from one trouble to another. I was just able to bring back my relationship but now, am in prison for murder. Why me Lord, is it not better to die than to be facing all these troubles” She said to herself.

As she was in deep thought, a prison warder came to tell her some one was asking about her and since it was visiting time, she was allowed to meet with the person.

“But who is the person, if not martins and his parents, who can it be” She asked the warder who just let her out of the cell to meet with her visitor.

She noticed the bread and milk given to the warder as a tip to allow them spend more time with her.

“Na you bread and tea be dis, you can stay long as you wish till I finish the bread” He said and smiled to her.

Alisa did not know who she was going to meet, as she dragged herself to the visiting table. On reaching there she met Bose, her mother and Martins mother. She was shocked seeing them and wanted to run back but Martins mother called her and told her to hear them out.

As she was sitting, it was Bose’s mother that talked at first. “Please, my daughter have mercy and forgive us, we know that we have sinned against you, have mercy” Bose’s mother pleaded.

“Hmm” That was Alisa’s response.

“Alisa, please they have done evil. against you, I know you how you felt but please, have mercy on them even if not for anything, forgive because of Bose, she is suffering a lot” Martins mother pleaded.

“You can’t talk” Bose’s mother shouted on Bose who was just weeping like a baby that was refused breastfeeding.

“Alisa, please for old time sake, forgive me, I acted in ignorance, I felt jealous of you and Martins which made me to get a charm and go diabolical against you” She said as she wanted to kneel down.

But as she was about kneeling down, the wrapper she was using to cover herself fell and Alisa saw a big wound on her two leg, it was rotten with worms on it, just like someone that was stroke by lightening and lepr0sy.

“What is this” Alisa shouted.

“That is how we have been carrying her around, we have visited many places but all they were saying is that we should seek your forgiveness and that she had made you suffered a lot” Her mother replied Alisa.

“So what should I do now, as you can see, am in prison because of all your daughter had done, you want me to forgive her” Alisa asked them with tears in her eye.

“My wife, I know it is difficult but please you can do it, just say you have forgiven her.” Martins mother said to Alisa.

Alisa cried for some minutes, she wanted Bose to suffer for all she had made her to pass through but her inner voice came again.

‘If you don’t forgive now, how do you want your God to forgive you, you have tried to have gotten to this stage, this is a test of your love for God and faith in him. Try and forgive her, it is then you will have peace of mind” The voice said to her.

Alisa wept again, holding her hair and banging the table which drew the attention of the warder who has finished the bread and was about dozing.

“You dan finish” He asked.

“No, please” Martins mother begged again.

‘Yes, I have” Alisa said and stood up to the surprise of those present.

“Alisa, I have a secret which the lecturer whom you killed kept with me, it will help you, please forgive me, even if I die like this, it has nothing to give to you, please” Bose said to Alisa with a voice of agony.

Alisa paused and looked at her. She shook her head and sat down again.

“Alisa, I know, I might die even if you forgive me but I will not allow you to end up in prison. You have helped me when I had nothing, you cater for me when I was not having where to stay. I only paid goodness with ev!l” Bose said and cried bitterly.

Bose took a deep breath and asked for a paper and a pen which was given to her. She could not move because she was carried there.

She wrote down a word which is “Diary” and passed it to Alisa.

Alisa opened it and exclaimed in surprise. You mean “His Diary” She asked opening her eye wide.

She remembered that she found a dairy in the lecturers room when she was writing her story, she wanted to open it them but stopped.

“Yes, in the diary , you will see the secret and the genesis of this problem” Bose said to her and sigh.

She was feeling unease as her leg were giving her much pain. She could not bear the pain any longer. Doctors had advised that the two legs should be amputated but she refused with the thought that it will heal up.

Alisa knelt down and wept, she requested to see Bose since there was hindrance between them and the prison officers that were there, were moved with what happened and granted her request.

Alisa went beside Bose and embraced her deeply, she hugged her and said silently to her ear, “I have forgiven you” But Bose smiled back. There was a sound of joy in the place but little did they know that Bose had passed away. She died with joy on her face.

When they noticed that she was no more, instead of her mother to cry, she smiled and called on the young men outside to help her carry her corpse while they went out with Martins mother following to the surprise of Alisa.

“When she was alive, I cried a lot and now that she is no more, it is useless crying. Am only grateful that she d!ed with joy and a forgiven soul.

Alisa could not understand what happened as she was taken back to her cell. She wept on behalf of Bose till she slept.

THE JUDGMENT DAY

Alisa had shown the paper to Martins who told her lawyer and police about the development and they allowed him access into the lecturers house and got the diary.

They searched through but all was blanks, there was nothing written inside. The police were annoyed and wanted to leave as one of them threw the big diary away but Martins carried it and took it home.

Few days later, Alisa’s judgment was to be pronounced as the court frowned against k!lling.

“Miss. Alisa, it is true the victim had raped you which in self defense led to his death but we found out that you wrote a letter after this which shows that you had a determined mind from the onset and from the call we trace. The victim was said to have been seriously ill.” The judge said showing her the letter.

“The incident happened around 10am in the morning but rather than reporting yourself, you stayed back and wrote a letter, it is against the criminal law” the judge added.

“Can you tell the court why you took that action” The judge asked Alisa.

Alisa looked at everyone present and speaks.

“hmm, I did not enjoy writing the letter all through , I called the police but they did not arrive early. My letter is a detailed story of my life. I was born into a good home but I was failed. I am an example of girls out there that there parents do not give listening ears to, they don’t educate them on matters that would influence their lives both positively and negatively. I had a good parent but they lacked upbringing, my mother especially but she is late now. My tutor should have been a help but he took advantage of my innocence. I trusted a friend but she failed me. The school should have been another place of knowledge but I was failed again. There are ladies out there that they no longer value themselves nor proud about their dignity because of some hungry wolves who prides themselves as lecturers using s3x for mark to take advantage of them.

I also failed myself because I surrounded myself with negative vibes and friend which led me to where I am today. My Lord, the society has failed many of us and we are still out there struggling to come out.” She added.

“When you see a little child asking you what this means in his or her body, don’t shun them because of your religion belief, but tell her things she need to know in love. We have high rate of rapist, drug dealers, smokers among others out there because they were not taught what they ought to know. I learnt s3x education outside and it affected me.

“My Lord, my letter contains a lot which I want all to learn from it and in all we should know that we live in a dark world and it is full of struggles. I rest my case” Alisa said and bow.

Everyone in the court were moved as some cried that day, even the judge could not hide her tears.

“Having listened to your view and opinion, here is my judgment. “The court sentence you to ..” As she was about to say it Martins rushed inside with the same diary, he showed the court and after struggle with the security officers, he was allowed in and he showed them that the diary was designed in a way that the ink will only show when a chemical is poured on it. A scientist told him and he tried it, it had only few sentence there which reads.

“Alisa is a lady, I have always admire since I set my eye on her as my student but she had refused every advances I made towards her. I have waited for too long but today on the 10th of March, I will pretend to be sick and call her to my place after my wife and daughter have travelled and I will force myself on her. If I perish, I perish. Dr. Lawrence.”

It was read to the court and everyone shouted while the judge asked them to be silent. After several cross examination. The judge ordered Alisa to spend Six months in prison with a fine of #500,000.
