A LIAR AT THE ALTAR SEASON 2: CHAPTER 21 – 30

Chapter 21

It’s been three days since the detectives came. I was already discharged from the hospital but Tristan was still at the hospital.

I visited Morris every day, his family came too.

It was Tuesday and I came to see Tristan with Kayden. We’d been here for almost an hour and Kayden was already asleep next to Tristan on the bed.

Detective Emily and Detective James came to visit in the evening.

I hoped they came with good news.

“Sorry but it’s not him, we did our investigation on him and didn’t find anything to convince us he was behind the attacks.”

I buried my face in my palms, who could it be if it wasn’t Ryan?

“We have a lead on someone though, we are still investigating to be sure but we have a feeling is him.”

“Who is it?”
I asked sitting upright.

“Do you know anyone called, Grey Ashton?”

What?

“Do you know anyone named Grey Ashton?”

I was lost for words as I took in her question. What did Grey have to do with this? He didn’t even know about Kayden.

“Miss Simpson?”
Detective Emily snapped her fingers in front of me.

“He is her ex.”
Tristan said before I could open my mouth.

“Hmmm….interesting, are you two in any way fighti….”

“No! We are good friends. Trust me, he is a nice guy.”
I heard Tristan scoff from beside me.

“Grey doesn’t know about Kayden,” I told them.

“Oh really?”
Detective Emily shared an amused look with her partner.

“I don’t even get it, how did Grey get into the picture?”

“We interrogated all your friends and he was the only one that sparks something in us, his alibi didn’t make any sense.

We don’t know what he is hiding but I can assure you we have something on him, he’s being detained at the moment.”

“Detained? Grey is in jail?”

“Yes, till we’re done with our investigation. You’ll be shocked to see what we found so far.”
She said her last sentence in a whisper.

“What are you guys talking about? There must be some kind of mistake somewhere.”

“We’ll be leaving now, we’ll explain everything when we wrap up the whole investigation. Have a lovely day.”
She flashed me a smile and left with Detective Clooney.

“Can you believe them? They think Grey tried to kill us.”
I said and laughed humourlessly.

I turned to Tristan and found his eyes closed, I knew he was pretending to be asleep.

I groaned and sank in my seat, why would Grey even want to kill me? Or kidnap Kayden?

“I won’t be surprised if it turns out to be him.”
I heard Tristan’s voice, I turned to look at him but his eyes were still closed.

“He is not the one, I’m sure they’ll let him go once they are done with their investigation.”

He didn’t say anything, he turned his face away from me and moved Kayden closer to him.

I smiled at Kayden’s tiny frame that snuggled closer to Tristan, Tristan moved his head up to create room for Kayden’s small head.

I exhaled and looked down at my plain nails, they interrogated all my friends.

Vina was still mad at me, I expected her to pay me a visit after hearing about the attack but she didn’t.

I reached for my phone and dialled her line, I waited for her to send me to voicemail but she picked the call.

“Vina?”
I sat up in my seat, she didn’t say anything. Maybe she didn’t know she picked the call.

“Vina, are you there?”

“What room are you?”
She asked with an aggravated sigh.

“Room? Are you at the hospital?”

“Why else would I be asking dumba$s?”
Okay, she was still mad at me.

“35, second floor. If you…”
She ended the call before I could finish my last sentence.

“Vixen is coming?”
Tristan asked not sounding happy, I was sure Adrian told him about Vina.

“Yeah, and I will advise you not to call her that when she gets here.”

“She hates me.”
He said and turned to look at me.

“Does she have any reason not to?” I mumbled staring at the door.

I had a feeling he heard me, there was an awkward silence in the room.

“If you never had Kayden would you ever want to see me again?”
He asked in a tone that carried pain and sadness.

The door opened before I could answer his question. I wasn’t sure of my answer anyway, all thanks to Vina for showing up at the right time.

“Vina.”
I stood up with a big smile to welcome her but she glared at me and walked to the bed.

“Hi, Vina.”
She pretended not to hear him.

She stopped at the foot of the bed and stared at Kayden for a long second.

I gave her a broad smile when she faced me, she had a straight look on her small face.

“How could you hide such an adorable angel from me? I wasn’t even there when he came into the world or his first birthday or the second birthday. I didn’t get to see your baby bump or hear his first cry, that’s so unfair Chloe.”
Her voice raised at the end.

“I understand why you did it and I don’t blame you but seriously I thought somewhere in there you had an itty-bitty trust for me. I’m so angry I missed all those moments…..wait, does he have a Godmother?”

“No, not yet.”

“Good, if he already did then forget about me inviting you to my wedding or my baby shower, did you have a baby shower?”

“No, it was just me.”
I said with a sad smile.

I never wanted to have my first baby that way, there was so much Vina and me had planned to do for our first baby.

“I’m not comfortable with this conversation.”
Tristan said from behind us.

“Why? Because is all your fault?”
She grimaced.

“Vina, it’s fine. I want to put all that behind me.”
I said taking her hand.

“Sure it wasn’t the way I wanted it but I’m glad I had him.”
She smiled at me and pulled me for a hug.

“He is waking up.”
We both pulled away and looked at Kayden. He looked lost as he stared at Tristan.

“Hey, little man.”
Tristan brushed his hair back, Kayden smiled and searched the room with his eyes till they landed on me.

I reached to take him but Vina beat me to it.

“Oh my God, he is so cute.”
She squealed.

“You look nothing like your father, you took everything from your momma.”
Vina whispered loud enough for Tristan to hear, I chuckled as I saw Tristan’s reaction.

His tiny mouth widened in a yawn, I picked my bag and gave Vina his bottle of milk.

He sucked the nip immediately she put it in his mouth.

“Awwww, ” she smiled at him.

“I have an idea, how about we betroth my daughter to….”

“No.”
Tristan and I answered in unison.

“Well, that was harsh. I just think they’ll make a great couple.”

“How are you sure your first child will be a girl?”

“You never know,” she shrugged
