A LIAR AT THE ALTAR SEASON 2: CHAPTER 21 – 30

Chapter 25

We walked down the stairs and everyone began to clap when they saw us.

Kayden started jumping enjoying how we both held him.

“Kayden,” I groaned in a low tone but he kept jumping, I took a glance at Tristan to help but he was smiling at him.

I turned my attention back to the people in the room, I didn’t know many of the people in this room.

Everyone applauded as we got off the stairs. I gave them my best smile, Kayden wriggle out of my hold and ran to Nora.

Few people came over to talk to us mostly Tristan cause I didn’t know any of them.

They asked a few questions about how we survived the shooting and why my ex tried to kill us, Tristan ended the conversation when he noticed how uneasy I was about the topic.

Mrs. Sanchester gave a touching opening speech, she apologized in front of everyone about what they did to me, I gave everyone a wide smile when they turned to look at me.

Thirty minutes into the party and my parents were still nowhere to be seen.

“Hey, ”
Someone called from behind tapping my shoulder lightly.

I smiled at Tristan who held out a glass of grape wine for me to take.

“Thank you.”

“It’s the party too much for you?”
He asked and took a sip from his Martini.

“A little since I don’t know half of the people here.”
I looked around at the room filled with people in fancy clothing.

“I love your dress, it’s stunning.”

“Just the dress?”
I cocked a brow as I took a sip of my wine, a flirtatious smile tugging at my lips.

He smiled and stepped closer his eyes not leaving mine.

“You look as beautiful as always.”
He whispered softly and brushed a stray hair to the back.

“Still cheesy, huh?”
I said stepping back. He laughed and stepped closer again, his eyes raked every curve on my body, I could feel the heat from his body and the lust dancing in his blue eyes matched mine.

His eyes glued to my lips, I cleared my throat getting uncomfortable with the air around us.

“You changed your perfume.”
It didn’t sound like a question, I stopped the hotness growing on my cheeks. He still remembered my old perfume.

“Yeah.”
I took a gulp from my wine as I prepared myself to tell him about Kayla.

“Chloe!”
I heard my mom’s voice, I turned around and smiled at my parents.

“Dad!”
I hugged him tightly, Tristan welcomed my parents before leaving.

I spoke to my parents for some minutes and left them to enjoy the party.

I searched for Tristan but he was nowhere to be seen.

“Hey, Scarlett,” I called one of the maids passing with empty champagne cups.

“Hi, Chloe.”

“Have you seen Tristan?”

“I saw him going upstairs.”

“Thank you.”
I said quickly and ran up the stairs.

I was relieved to find him in his room, he was changing his clothes.

“Hey.”
I said nervously and shut the door.

“Everything okay?”
He asked removing his white long-sleeved button-up shirt that had a red stain on it.

“Yeah, what happened?”

“Kayden spilled my drink on me, I just came up to change.”
He reached for another packet shirt and slid his arm.

I looked elsewhere to avoid any distraction at this moment.

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Ugh hmm.”
I hummed still looking elsewhere.

He walked to where I stood, he was standing too close and his shirt buttons were still undone, his neat abs and outlined V-line were in full view.

“Cassie, ” he used one finger to raise my chin making me meet his eyes.

“What’s wrong?”

“We need to talk,” I said and took a step back.

“Okay, I’m all ears.”

I swallowed and crossed my arm, I hope this goes well.

“I had twins, Kayden has a twin.”

“I had twins, Kayden is a twin.”

“What?” he mumbled staring at me without blinking.

“He has a sister,” I said rubbing my elbow like it could ease the feeling in my chest.

“Oh sht!”
He groaned turning away from me, he pun¢hed the wall next to the closet and mumbled another curse.

Well, that wasn’t the reaction I was expecting.

“Oh God, no.”
He groaned again and buried his face in his palms.

“Tristan?”

“Don’t say it, please don’t.”
He was about to break down, he took a sharp breath and ran his palm down his face in distress.
I was so confused.

“Tristan?”
I moved closer.

“She is dead, isn’t she? And it’s all my fault.”

“No, she is alive. Kayla is alive.”
He faced me looking so surprised. Why did he think she was dead?

“She is alive? My baby girl is alive?”
He took slow steps toward me still looking shocked but the happiness was radiating from the smile about to reach his face.

“Yes Tristan, she is not dead.”

“Oh my God, thank you.”
He wrapped his arms around me with a burst of joyful laughter, I was still lost.

“I am so happy to hear that, Cassie. I don’t think I will be able to stand the thought of losing another baby girl.”
He sounded relieved.

“Where is she? I wanna see her.”
He asked pulling away, he looked so excited and I was about to take the happiness and hope away.

“Uh…she’s in Cuba. You know, the place I had the twins?”

“Why?”
He looked pissed now.

“I couldn’t take care of both of them, so…” I took a glance at him and tried to say it.

“So what happened, Cassie? Is she in trouble?”

“I gave her up for adoption,” I said quickly.

“You what?”

“I couldn’t do it, Tristan.”

“So you kicked her out of your life, you gave her away like she was nothing? You abandoned her.”

“No! For Christ’s sake. I. Didn’t. Abandon. Her!”

“You took Kayden with you and left his sister. You gave his sister to another family, Cassie, that’s….”
He paused and closed his mouth.

“Is what? Cruel? Unfair? Say it!”
I dared him.

He turned away from me and walked into the closet.

“I know I was wrong to pick Kayden and leave his sister, I had no money to take care of both of them.

It was better than watching them suffer.”
I said behind him as he grabbed a small suitcase and threw some clothes inside.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m going to Cuba to get my daughter.”
He said sternly.

“We can’t, we can’t get her back once she is adopted; it’s the law.”

“To he.ll with the law, I’m going to get my daughter.”

“It’s impossible,” I said with tears in my eyes.

He pretended not to hear me and kept packing. He zipped the suitcase when he was done and walked past me to the room.

He buttoned his shirt and wore his jacket, he picked his phone and made a call.

“Get my jet ready, I will be there in twenty minutes.”
He ended the call before the person could say a word.

“Tristan,” I called stepping closer.

“I really wish there is something we can do to get her back, but we have no option.”

“There has got to be a way to get her back, I’m getting her back no matter the cost.”

“Okay, I will get my things.”
I told him before leaving the room, I packed my things into a small bag. I didn’t know how he was planning on getting Kayla back from her new home.

I changed into white skinny jeans and a maroon top. I put on my white trainers quickly and left the room.

Tristan was waiting at the stairs glancing at his wristwatch.

He started walking down the stairs immediately he saw me, he didn’t wait for me to reach where he was or even close to where he was.

All eyes turned to us when we got off the stairs, Tristan didn’t care.
