A NIGHT’S MISTAKE

“I want us to drop at my aunt June’s place… Just to say hello.” I told Alex just as we were coming back from school.
We did a U-turn and soon we were there.
I met mom too… She was getting ready to travel back.
We hugged for a long time. I told her I held no grudges against her and to live her life.
We spent almost three hours in the house before we finally decided to leave.
On the way, a big black car parked behind us.
When the driver came out, it was Mr Brooke… our dad.
“Kids!” He cried happily, coming towards us. It was almost dark. “Why are you trekking!” He bellowed.
“Why? No one to take us around in a car of course.” Alex rolled her eyes. I watched her and smiled before turning to look at Mr Brooke.
“I’m sorry sir but we are late…we have to be on our now. Come on,Alex.” I said but he stopped us again.
” Get into the car. I will drop you off.” He said.
” I’m sorry..no!” I almost snapped.
What the h*ell is her doing, trying to play the nice father?
“I insist,Ryan. I want to apologise to Darla…I want to make things right….I want to make it up to you son… for all the mistakes!” Dad said eagerly.
Alex and I glared at each other.
What do you say to that? Her mind reached out to me.
Don’t Know. Let’s give him a second chance. I reached back then turned to face Mr Brooke and nodded.
? ALEXANDER ?
We hopped into the car and I couldn’t help but sigh.
The AC was great. My father is this rich?
Mr Brooke…. He’s my father all these while! I had no other option but to accept him…. I just couldn’t wait to have a rich dad!
We got home and came outta the car.
Mr Brooke followed us into the house.
Just then, we saw mom stepping out of the kitchen just in time to see us come in.
Puzzled and angry, she ran back into the kitchen, dropping the cutleries in her hand.
?DARLA?
I couldn’t believe he could come into my apartment.
I couldn’t believe the mighty Mr Brooke could step hid foot into my small house.
Tears rushed down my face. What’s he doing here!
“Darla.”
I heard a voice behind me and I stiffened.
He had followed me into the cramped kitchen.
I turned slowly to stare at him and was greatly shocked to see tears in his eyes.
My mouth dropped open. And tears followed. Fresh tears.
“Can you ever forgive me?” He whispered.
My heart sank and my hands trembled when I realized I still have a soft spot for my formal boss.
I couldn’t utter a word.. couldn’t sT anything but only stared on.
He started walking towards me and stopped in front of me.
He took my trembling hands and kssed my palm. “Darla… I’m talking to you. Can you ever forgive me?” He asked again, softly.
” Can I ever forgive you? ” I said to him and stared back at the door.
Ryan and Alex were rooted there watching with a smile full of expectation.
I glanced back at him. “I’m sure the kids are happy you are here. If they want you here…. Who am I to say no? ” I replied quietly.
A smile spread across his face and he pulled me to himself, hugging me tightly.
Surprisingly, I hugged him back.
? ALEXANDER ?
“You are moving out tonight kids. Go bag your bags. Your bags only.” Dad said and felt on to of the world.
Life was about to become sweet!!
Ryan and I did as instructed and left for our rooms.
Hours later, we are done packing up the necessary things in the house.
That same night, we moved into Dad’s second big house.
There we met Chloe.
She was happy to see us and I couldn’t blame her. She was feeling so lonely with her brother and mother gone.
“I’m happy you guys are here!” She said happily hugging us.
That night, while Mom and our new found dad stayed up in the room all night, Ryan, Chloe and I spent the night, watching the stars and chatting happily.
That same night, I slept off… Having the best dream ever….. A dream where a complete happy family came together and become one.
