Arriving at the mansion, she heaved a deep sigh. It was easy to get a bus at the station, thanks to today being a Saturday.
She clenched her fists, ready to knock at the gate, but her eyes caught the electric switch beside the door. She laughed, hitting her head with her clenched fists.
“The last time I came here, I knocked like an illiterate instead of pressing the bells,” she said, revealing part of her teeth with a smile.
She pressed the electric bell, and almost immediately, the gate was opened by one of the security men.
She showed him a card that was given to her on the day she got appointed. He nodded, opening the gate widely. “The babysitter, right?” She nodded and entered.
One of the guards escorted her inside, and she couldn’t help but admire the exquisite state of the mansion. It was beautiful and classy.
The guard led her into the sitting room, and her mouth flew open. “This is amazing!” Her mind screamed as she admired everything, It was mostly made of gold and diamond.

There was a fireplace for warming up also, everywhere was sparkling and neat.
There he was, sitting on the sofa while his daughter laid beside him, with her head on his laps their eyes were glued to the TV.
“Good morning boss,” she bowed, avoiding his gaze. His daughter sat up immediately on hearing her voice, she made cute faces rushing to her.
“I missed you,” the girl said, hugging her legs due to her height. Claribel smiled, stroking her hair. “I’m here now.”
“What says the time?” Dylan finally spoke up, her smug smile disappeared immediately.
She released herself from his daughter’s embrace on hearing him speak with no expression to judge how he was feeling… angry or frustrated.
“Huh,” she breathed, trying her best to be as polite as possible as she slowly diverted her gaze to her watch on her left wrist. “10:48 am,” she said with confidence that made him wonder. “And you have the audacity to say it to my face,” he said.
Claribel bit her lower lip, she’s slowly losing it. “You asked, didn’t you? Besides, I arrived about five minutes ago, so I’m not so late,” she said, and Dylan scoffed. “Listen to me, I don’t care who exactly you are, but I’m your boss.
Learn to respect me!” He growled, his daughter flinched a bit, but neither him nor her new nanny noticed. “Well, where I came from, females are respected too,” she shrugged. Dylan only sighed, giving no reply.
Andrea looked at her nanny beckoning her to sit, Claribel flashed her a thankful smile as she sat comfortably on the couch. His daughter sat on her legs, Dylan scoffed at their closeness.
“Maidservant Ann,” he suddenly called, looking towards where the kitchen was located, expecting her to come from there.
The woman answered from the kitchen and rushed to him, bowing her head.
“Get the rules book, she’s my daughter’s new nanny,” Dylan said, pointing at Claribel who was staring at him blankly.
“Ohh, welcome to the Langford’s mansion dear, I’m Ann, the chief maid,” the woman said, flashing her a broad smile. Claribel smiled back. “I’m Claribel.” “Get it now,” Dylan said to the woman. Claribel’s smile changed into a frown. “Yuck!” she grimaced.
The woman returned with a big book in her hands, Claribel’s eyes widened on their own.
“Wait, did I hear him correctly? How can a rules book be as large as this?” she thought. Dylan took it from the woman who bowed before leaving. He turned to Claribel, staring at her for a while.
She swallowed, feeling uncomfortable with his gaze on her. “Here’s the book,” he paused, staring at his daughter on her legs, “containing the rules and regulations you must abide by as a babysitter,” he continued, handing it over to her.
Claribel was amazed at its largeness; she opened the first page, it was a mere introduction.
She turned to the next page… the next… and the next page where the rules came into view.
She squinted her eyes to read. “FIRST, NEVER TOUCH HER WITHOUT WASHING YOUR HANDS” was written boldly on the page, it was so bold that even someone who couldn’t read without glasses could easily read what was there.
She flipped to the next page, reading aloud. “NEVER ENTER HER ROOM WITHOUT HER PERMISSION,” she scoffed. “Seriously?”
Each page contained a rule, and that’s why the book was so large. “Stop!” Dylan said after she read the third rule aloud.
She furrowed her brows he watched her disgustingly like shit was on her body.
“Go home and read the rules, you’re resuming fully on Monday” he said, her mouth opened ready to mutter a word, he interrupted “With your luggages” he added, Claribel nodded, standing up,
“How about my pay?? ” She asked confidently, Dylan scrunched up his brows
“What the…!”
“You haven’t even started working” he scoffed and she sighed
“I know but…”
“Ten thousand dollars per week” he said and gasped, did I hear him right?? her subconscious mind screamed but her ears were obviously not deceiving her, his words were clear.
“That’s a huge sum of money” she smiled broadly.. he scoffed, “leave now, resume as early as six.. don’t get me late for work” he said with a straight face. “Six…!! I won’t enjoy my sleep” she thought biting her lower lip. “do you understand!” He raised his voice a bit, “Sure” she flashed a short smile.
She hugged the book closely to her chest and bowed slightly, Andrea pecked her cheeks as she bowed..
She smiled “Bye nanny”, “Bye” she replied and left without looking back… Not even once.
“I don’t think I’m comfortable with her being your nanny” Dylan said to his little daughter, gesturing her to come close,
“No dad, I love her” she pouted sitting on his laps.
“But…” “no buts dad..!!” She rolled her blue eyes at him.
“You’ve been the one choosing nannies for me, from the beginning, I’m grown up now” she said and Dylan almost laughed as the kid made funny faces, “Okay fine” he said stroking her brown hair.
“I won’t hesitate to sack her if she goes beyond her boundaries” he said, Andrea raised her head quickly “Then I won’t talk to you again.. never” she said and he sighed.
“You know how much that hurts” he breathed, “then don’t sack her no matter how wrong she is” Dylan scoffed,
“Seriously..??”

Chairman Langford’s Mansion…
“I see no reason why you keep insisting on what we both know it’s wrong” Chairman James yelled at his wife, Sophia.
She heaved a sigh wishing the old man should at least give her a chance to convince him.
“There’s nothing wrong in allowing him fall in love again, he’s not a baby for Pete’s sake, he’s old enough to choose his bride!!” Sophia yelled back feeling her throat itching immediately, she shouted too much.
Chairman James laughed shortly, “Listen to yourself woman, just listen” he paused.
“You and I know falling in love has been his greatest fear for the past six years and you still keep mentioning that goddmned word?? “Sophia sighed, he’s right.
“But..” She tried saying, “no buts, The Wilson’s has spoken to their daughter Brinkley and luckily she agreed, they are getting betrothed to each other in a couple of days” he said hoping his annoying wife will just agree without arguing.
Sophia stared him blankly “Are you even a father..”
“Huh..!” “yeah, because you don’t act like on, tell me, who on earth would want to marry a popular drug addict, Who??!, besides, he doesn’t even know her well!” She complained. James scoffed, “Who is the irresponsible parent here?? .
