BASKETBALL COURT.

“What are you doing?” Verna questioned Diego sternly.

“What?” He asked back.

“What’s going on with you? Just because she transformed, you’re already losing interest? Is that it?” She arched her eyebrows.

“So what if it is?”

“What?”

“Can’t I develop an interest in her? Am I not allowed to? Do I need your permission for that?”

“Hey! How can you say that after everything you’ve done to her?”

“What exactly did I do? You shared the video… yourself. I never asked you to do that. You showed it to the whole world just to disgrace her. So what did I do wrong exactly?” Diego said as Verna scoffed.

“You’re crazy, aren’t you? Tell me the truth… you can’t possibly fall for her, right? You just… right! She suddenly became pretty, so you just want to have your way with her. That’s it, right?”

“She was cute in the video… I enjoyed watching that, and also…” He paused and stepped closer to her.

“She’s not bad-looking even before she transformed. And it’ll be quite intriguing if I do fall for her,” he smirked before leaving.

“Hey! You can’t fall for her! You can’t! You can never! I won’t allow that!” Verna yelled after him as he left, stomping her feet on the floor.

“Sht! That wretch! Just wait!” she seethed.

ROOFTOP.

Jayden kept his eyes closed as he lay on a bench.

Somehow, his mood dampened after the recent incident.

“Did I make a mistake by changing her?”

“Now everyone is going to be interested in her?”

“Dammit! I should have thought this through,” he kept thinking.

“That crazy girl… she thinks she’s everything now that she’s pretty!” he mumbled.

“Yeah, I think I am… got a problem with that?” he heard a voice and immediately sat up.

“Are you skipping class? Jade said you were nowhere to be found since you left the cafeteria earlier. Were you here all along?” Kim asked, folding her arms.

“What is it to you?” he made to leave, but she held him back.

“You know… I don’t really fancy material things. I prefer my old self over this. Ever since I became the person I am now, the things I’m losing are much more than what I’m gaining. Going back wouldn’t be a problem for me at all,” she said.

“Why would you go back? You’re perfect now,”Jayden was frustrated, his emotions getting the best of him.

“Why do you seem so uncomfortable with it?” he asked.

“Why would I be? I’m the one who made you like this, remember?”

“Then…?”

Jayden let out a sigh, and before Kim realized it, he put his arm around her shoulder.

“It’s because I won’t be able to do this anymore,” he said, playfully messing up her hair.

“Hey, do you want to die? Let go!” Kim gritted her teeth, and he released his grip.

“That was strange of you, letting go so easily.”

“You told me to.”

“Not that you ever obeyed whenever I asked you to do something.”

“It’s different now… you’re different now,” he replied, and Kim let out a sigh.

“What’s wrong with all of you?”

“Kim… maybe this is the best thing for you. Look, you’re already getting all the attention.”

“I never did this to seek attention or become the talk of the school, you know that.”

“But you are indeed getting what you want. Am I wrong?”

“Well… maybe you’re not entirely wrong. He offered to practice basketball with me… he asked earlier,” Kim smiled.

“Oh, really? That’s good to hear. So, what was your reply?”

“I rejected him, of course.”

“But you’re going to accept later, right?”

“I have to play hard to get, you know,” she said, biting her lower lip and smiling. Jayden took a step forward after looking at her for a while, pulling her into a hug.

“I’m glad this is working out just fine. It seems I don’t have to worry about anything,” he said, stroking her hair.

“Thank you, Jayden… really,” she smiled, hugging him back. They stayed like that for a few moments before parting ways.

“Oh! Your makeup is smeared,” Jayden pointed out.

“Really?”

“Wait, let me help you with that. Sit,” he said, and she obliged. Kimberly closed her eyes. Jayden grabbed the bottle of water from beside the bench and poured a little on his palm. He smirked to himself before fixing her makeup.

“There,” he said, withdrawing after a moment. Kimberly opened her eyes.

“Is it okay now?” she asked, and he nodded, smiling.

“You should go to class now.”

“Why? Let’s go together.”

“No… I still have to stop by somewhere real quick. See you later!” he said in a rush before dashing away.

“What’s with him…” Kimberly thought.

Students couldn’t stop looking at her and murmuring to each other as she walked through the hall. Kimberly didn’t think much of it, as it had been happening ever since she arrived at school that morning.

“Don’t they ever get tired? Am I that pretty?” she muttered to herself, feeling a sense of pride.

She headed toward her class and was about to enter when she bumped into Diego at the door.

“Oh, hi,” she smiled and made to go inside, but Diego called her back.

“You…” he said, and she turned to look at him. She smiled, tucking her hair behind her ear.

“What is it? I already said I’m not interested in your coaching or whatever. Stop being persistent; it’s getting annoying, seriously.”

“No… it’s just…” Diego gestured to her face, and she sneered.

“Now you’re speechless? This is unlike you. Just stay away. That’s what you want, right?” She patted his chest, but Diego leaned closer to her.

“Your makeup… it’s all over your face,” he whispered.

Kimberly looked at him with a perplexed expression, then turned her attention to the students in the classroom. They were already taking her pictures, and the expressions on their faces seemed mocking.

Diego also captured a photo of her.

She heard a click and glanced at him.

“What was that? Did you just take my picture?” she asked, pretending to be annoyed. Diego smiled and brought the phone to her, showing her the picture. Kimberly instantly became furious.

“What on earth!” Her makeup was smeared all over her face, making her look like a panda.

Now she understood why everyone had been staring at her. It wasn’t admiration for her beauty; they were actually mocking her.

Quickly, she tousled her hair, covering her face.

“Jayden…” she gritted her teeth.

“I’m going to get you, Jayden!” she seethed as she stormed out of the room.

Diego watched her leave, his hands in his pockets.

“That’s amusing,” he snickered.

“No… I won’t allow that to happen. You can never have Diego, Kim, because he’s mine alone!” Verna thought, looking at Diego’s persistent smile from the back seat.

“Since I’m not like her… since I have nothing to offer like her… since I’m not as pretty as her… since I lack her confidence… he will never notice me, right?” Onda also thought, gazing at Verna.
