GRUMPY AND THE PRIEST : EPISODE 11 – 20
Episode 11

“Theo, are you breaking up with me?” Maia asked, pointing a hand to her chest.
“Well, of course, Maia. I have to. I’m getting married.” He replied dauntlessly, inserting his hands in his trouser pocket .
“So…so you’re just gonna dump me over some silly stuff? You’re just gonna treat me like trash?”
“I don’t think you should see it that way. I’m only doing what’s best. You don’t expect me to be a cheat, do you?”
She swayed left and right and laughed.
“You think you can get away with this right?””she asked angrily. “You really think you can make fun of me? Well, just watch out; cause you’re gonna regret it.” She added and tired walking away, but he drew her back.
“Listen to me, Maia” he said harshly. “If you hurt as little as a strand of hair on Nina’s head, I swear to God; I’m gonna peel off your skin.”
She tried slapping him, but he pushed her away.
“Betrayer!’ She screamed at him and ran off in tears.

Nina returned home frazzled and was amazed at the decorations of the house.
“Maybe it’s because of daddy’s visitors” she thought.
Dinner had already been prepared and was served on the dining and one of the dishes prepared was Brunswick stew – one of her favorite American meal.
“Hello dad” she said on the phone as she dialed his line and he picked up immediately.
“Hello darling .back From school?” He asked elatedly,
“Yes dad. You aren’t home yet?”
“No no . but I’ll be home in a giffy.
“Okay. Uhm…dad, are your visitors still coming?”
“Not visitors Nina, but visitor. And yes, she’s on her way.”
“A she?” Nina thought.
“Okay dad .I’m waiting” she said and hung up.
She racked her brain and tried guessing whom her father’s visitor could be, but couldn’t.
She rushed to her room, took a shower and found something sweet to wear. She couldn’t wait to see the surprise visitor.
She kept herself busy with a movie until she heard the sound of the gate opening followed by a car driving in. She quickly stood up and arranged her dress for her dad to come in.

As expected, the door went open and Declan walked in, but not alone -with a lady -and his hands were wrapped around her waist.
“Welcome dad” Nina said perfunctorily and stared at the lady. Was that the visitor?
“Hi’ she greeted with a curious stare from head to toe.
She was young, beautiful and couldn’t be above 30 years old.
“Hello pretty. How’re you doing? The Lady replied with a genial voice and a soft smile.
“I’m fine. Thanks”
“Mm-mmh” Declan cleared his throat. “Uhm Denise , this is Nina, my dearest daughter. And Nina, I want you to meet Denise my fiancee”.
Nina felt a loud bang in her head as bemusement nibbled at her.
“Hi Nina. Nice meeting you” Denise said in excitement and stretched out her hand for a handshake.
“Fi…Fiancee?” Nina struggled to say, not even staring at the stretched hand.
Declan didn’t say anything ad he wore a sad look. He definitely knew Nina would be hurt.
“You’re getting married to someone else?” She continued. “You’re going to betray mom? This…this is unbelievable, dad” she said and ran away to her room, just before the tears came out.
She sat on the bed and buried her tearful face in her palms. She couldn’t believe what was happening. She wished so badly for it to all be a nightmare so she could wake up and be assured her mom was the only one in her dad’s heart.

Shortly, the door opened and Declan walked in, looking really troubled.
“What happened to mom, dad?” She asked immediately he got in.
“Nina” he called, drawing closer to her.” I’m…I’m sorry but I have to move on”
“And forgot about mom so soon?”
“So soon? It’s been 9 years Nina. Isn’t that enough?”
He sighed and Sat on the bed.
“You know I love your mom Nina. Even in death, I’m never going to stop loving her. But I’m a man and I still have a long way to go. I need to move on with my life, Nina or do you want me to be sad forever? To die a lonely man?”
Nina was really befuddled and didn’t know what to think anymore.
She had a feeling her dad might’ve to find someone else someday, but now it was finally happening, it was coming as a shock to her.
Her father was still a young man and she couldn’t expect him to remain bounded to her late mother.
“I’m sorry dad” she said as she embraced him. “I’m sorry. I was just being over reactive”.
He also hugged her tight and planted a kiss on her forehead.
“Thank you Nina. I love you” he said with a tearful smile.
“I love you too, dad”
“Come on. Let’s have dinner together.”
“I’ll…I’ll join you shortly.” She said and he left.
She threw herself on the bed and wept again. She couldn’t get rid of the shock. She couldn’t bear the fact that her mom was about to be replaced .
She took one of her mom’s photographs and wept over it.
She’s never imagined having a stepmother.
