Episode 24

Nina sat next to Alvin by the water, her head placed on his shoulders as they stared into it.
“But are you sure he’s going it accept it?” Alvin asked after listening to Nina’s odeal.
“Yes, I’m sure. He’s definitely going to get used to it” Nina replied, hopefully.
“But how about you family? Isn’t this going to stir up trouble?”
Nina sighed and lifted her head from his shoulders.
“Well, I guess I’d have to explain things to them as well. Of course, yes, it’s going to stir up trouble but I’m sure they’ll get over it.” She replied and shrugged her shoulders.
Alvin smiled and returned her head on his shoulder and after that, he began a song:
“It’s hard to believe
That I couldn’t see
You were always there beside me
Thought I was a alone
With no one to hold
But you were always there beside me
This feelings like no other.
I want you to know…”
“Hey, I know that song” nina said immediately he rounded up. It’s from high school musical, right?”
“Yeah. So, you did watch the movie?” He replied and asked.
“Of course, I did. Why wouldn’t I? Who was your favorite character?”.
“Uhm…I think I’ll go with Gabriella. She’s pretty and has a nice voice”.
“Okay. Anyway, mine is Troy. Troy is so super cute and his voice swims me through the ocean.”
“Hello?” Alvin called, waving his hand in her fave
“Does he sing better than me?” He asked enviously.
“What? He.ll no. Of course, you’re the best.
“By the way, when will you sing for me? I want My name included in the lyrics”
Hm . as what?” He asked and laughed. “Anyway, I signed up for a music show and I’ve been accepted.”
“A music show? Wow! When?”
“On Friday night. It’s more like a concert and I get to sing for a large number of people.”
“Friday night?” Nina thought.
That was supposed to be her wedding eve.
“Okay. Can’t wait to be there. So, what song do you intend singing? Why don’t you sing my favourite?”
“And what’s your favorite?”
.come on Alvin. Stop pretending. If I could be like the trees…”
“Oh, that. Don’t worry, I’d sing and record it just for you”
“Tell me you’re serious”.
Still talking, Nina’s phone awakened with a mighty ring from her dad. She panicked as she received it.
“Nina, we need to talk. Now! Get home immediately!” He said raucously and ended the call, not giving her a chance to speak.
Nina became paranoid as she could sense a morass situation ahead.
“I…I need to go” she stuttered. “Daddy wants me home”.
“Do you think I should come along?” He asked.
“No. I don’t think so. It’s only going to make matters worst.”
Immediately, another came in again from him and Nina was startled.
“Dad?” She said fraily on the phone.
“Theo just had an accident”. Declan said.

Nina ran into the hospital building and the first familiar people she met were Theo’s family- Mr and Mrs Sidney and harmony.
They were all looking pale and she noticed Harmony was crying.
She suddenly became diffident and walked slowly towards them and the kept staring at her till she did .
“Mrs…'”
Before she could finish up her remorseful statement, Harmony landed an angry slap on her face.
“You snake!” She yelled at her tearfully. “You even had the guts to show off your ugly face. How dare you? How dare you put my brother in harm’s way? How dare you endanger hus life?
“He loved and trusted you but all you did was stab him in the back for your selfish purposes.
I was there when everything happened. He ws frustrated when you broke up with him and that was why he drove out of control.
You just pray nothing bad happens to him and he gets to wake up from his coma, else, you’re gonna have me to deal with”. She said conclusively and walked away.
Mr Sidney just stared at her and also left.
Nina felt bittered and didn’t even know when she began weeping.
It was Mrs Sidney who decided to show a little clemency.
“Mrs Sidney I’m sorry” she whimpered.
“I didn’t mean to harm him”.
“What happened Nina? You should’ve been careful. The accident was fatal and the doctor said he’s gone into comma and might take long to recover. He’s in danger Nina, a terrible one. I just hope he comes out of this.” She replied and also walked away.

Immediately she left, Declan showed up, having a fowl mood. Before he got to where Nina was, she ran off, out of the hospital. She couldn’t stand anyone anymore.
She ran off to a deserted place and sat on the floor, crying profusely.
She never wanted to harm Theo. But it seemed she had and the whole world was against her.
She wouldn’t know what to do of she lost him. She couldn’t even think about it.
She stayed on the floor under the cold weather until it was dark and she was beginning to shiver. .she left the floor and returned to the hospital, still feeling she might be rejected. But that didn’t matter to her anymore. She needed to see Theo.
As she emerged into the building, she met her dad at the facade, walking tho and fro, as if waiting for her. She had switched off her phone because she didn’t want to be disturbed by anyone.
Besides, Theo wasn’t there to call.
She reduce her pace as she got to where her dad was and stood in front of him.
“Whereve you been?” He asked immediately.
Shw kept mute and kept staring at the floor.
“I thought we talked about this Nina?” He continued. “What went wrong? Why did you have to ruin everything?”
“I’m sorry” she managed to say.
“You need to make amends Nina. Fix this mess before it becomes unfixable.”
She didn’t say anything immediately but only waited for him to finish up his talk.
“I’ll be spending the night here” she said morosely. “So, goodnight.”
“Okay. Bye” Declan replied after a pause and gave her a parting kss before leaving.
She continued on her way and asked for directions for Theo’s room. Getting to the door, she met some members of the Sidney family there, but that didn’t stop her from going in.
“What’re you doing here?” Harmony asked and was about getting at her when Mrs Sidney stopped her.
“Stay put harmony. What’s wrong with you?” She asked with a stare and turned to the rest of the relatives.
“Please, let’s step outside” she told them and led the way out.
“Mum, what’re you doing?” Harmony asked ad they walked out of the room, leaving just Nina
“I think it’s best she stays with him. It might help matters” she replied in a low key and closed the door.
Everything that had just happened didn’t really matter to Nina as all her attention ws on Theo who was lying like a breathing corpse on the bed.
He had bandages on and was placed on drips.
An oxygen mask was placed on his nose.
She couldn’t believe that was her Theo, looking dead. Indeed, he was in a terrible condition .
She looked at the anaesthetic machine. It was beeping slowly.
He wasn’t moving.
She walked slowly towards him and sat on a chair next to him. She started weeping again.
What if he died in the process? What would she do? How would she live with the fact that she killed Theo?
If only she knew, perhaps, she wouldn’t had broken up with him. Maybe he’d still be in sound health.
He lost the big game because of her and now, he was at the point of death, also because of her. The whole thing was so frustrating and she felt so terrible. She felt like a monster.
She needed her Theo back.
