Chapter Thirty Three
AUTHORESS PROSPER POV
Grace couldn’t explain how she felt as soon as she went out of the room. Anger, sadness, bitterness – what did she even feel?
She was sad of course and shocked. She couldn’t believe that the same Dylan who acted rude to her today was the same one who acted nice to her yesterday.
What happened to make him act that way towards her? She couldn’t tell, she didn’t even remember doing or saying anything wrong to him, so why then did he treat her that way?
She ruffled her hair as her face crumpled. She felt like crying. She felt so unhappy.
Yeah, she know Dylan to be cold but at least he talked to her yesterday, right? Then why the sudden change? Why did he go back to his old self?
Lots of questions flew into her mind that she didn’t even realize when she stepped into the living room. It was Mrs Skylar voice which drew her out of her thoughts.
Mrs Skylar was still in the living room, she was done wiping the table and now she was moping the floor.
She couldn’t risk letting a single sand lay on the floor, her boss might get angry at her for he hated dirt a lot.
“Grace, you are leaving?”.She asked.
She was quite surprised to see Grace leaving, the Grace she knows leaves by 4pm but now it was just 2pm. Why the change?
Grace herself couldn’t find her voice. She heard Mrs Skylar but she found it hard to talk. Tears had already swallowed her voice and was now reaching her eyes.
“Grace? You normally leave by 4pm but now, the time is 2pm. Is anything the matter? Did anything bad happen?”.Mrs Skylar asked again but this time Grace could only let out few words which wasn’t audible. Mrs Skylar didn’t hear her!
Mrs Skylar wanted to say something again but stopped herself when she realized she was talking too much, she was poking her nose in someone else business which to her was wrong.
Grace wanted to speak again but stopped when she noticed Mrs Skylar’s glance wasn’t on her again.
She’d feel bad for not talking audibly to her but it wasn’t her fault, she was just too sad. The sadness was just too much.
Sighing, she walked out of the living room but unfortunately for her, she remembered Dylan’s harsh words on her causing her to whimper.
Wait… What is she doing? Does she want to cry for that guy? Who the dickens is Dylan to talk to her that way?
She suddenly felt anger rising up to the pit of her stomach. Her stomach rumbled.
She felt anger for Dylan and the teacher who put her in this mess. She was living her life happily until that teacher, Mr Kelvin threw her into this shit.
Damn! She felt like tearing up both of them.
Finally, she went out of the gate and stood, walking to and fro. She was angry, yes she was but she couldn’t still understand why she felt this little sadness in her.

The Next Day
Grace and her family was back from church. The name of the church was Christ Chosen Disciples Ministry, it have many branches and was one of the most popular and populated church in the state.
Since Grace came back home from Dylan’s house yesterday, she couldn’t rest. Why? It was because she couldn’t take off Dylan’s words from her head. She felt uncomfortable.
She hesitantly prepared to go to his house and when she was finally done dressing up, it was clocking 1pm. She knew she was late but she kinda didn’t care.
She climbed down the stairs and when she got to the living room, she saw her mum, dad and Dave watching TV.
She wanted to join them but she would get so late.
“Good afternoon dad, Good afternoon mum”.She greeted and her mum smiled at her but her dad scoffed.
“Grace, don’t you think you should drop this your good morning and good afternoon greetings. Please, greet me in my local language”.Her dad didn’t look so happy, the fact that his kids didn’t know how to speak Igbo very well pained him.
“Am sorry dad but I don’t um, know how to say it”.Grace wasn’t the fast learner type unlike her brother who knew how to speak Igbo a little bit. Although, Grace was taught Igbo in her former school in Nigeria but still, she found it very difficult to learn.
In a nutshell, Igbo language was not her thing.
“Otutu Oma, that’s good afternoon”.Her dad said and Grace folded her lips in a thin line.
‘Otutu Oma’, She recited in her mind.
“Darling, leave her alone, she will get used to it”.Her mum turned to her husband.
“I just hope so cause well, you never got used it”.Her dad said and her mum kept shut, not knowing how to reply back at her husband’s words.
Silence followed….Everyone’s eyes locked on the TV screen, even Grace who was still standing noticed the uncomfortable silence.
She wanted to say something, anything at all but nothing came out of her mouth. Thanks fully, Dave spoke up.
“So Grace, you are going to Dylan’s house, huh?”.Dave asked.
“Y…Yeah”.She hesitantly answered.
Only God knows that she doesn’t want to go there ever again.
Dave did noticed the way she said ‘yeah’, she said it in a way that can even make a dimwit know that she don’t want to go there anymore but he just shrugged it off.
Grace began taking some steps out of the house but stopped when her dad called her back.
“Grace, you forgot something today”.Her dad said and Grace turned back to him, looking confused.
“I…don’t under…stand”.She sputtered.
“Wow! Can’t believe she forgot her own birthday”.This time it was Dave speaking and Grace’s cheeks heat up when she remembered today’s date. It was September 29th, her birth date.
Gosh! How could she forget? Well, it was Dylan’s fault, he got her mind pretty occupied.
“I got you a present, hope you like it”.Her dad said, bringing out a wrapped square box which was resting close to him on the chair he sat on.
Grace couldn’t believe she was standing so close to her dad but yet, she never caught sight of that box.
Her dad handed to her the box and Grace happily received it. Trust her to always love presents especially her birthday presents.
She unwrapped the box carefully and when she finally unwrapped it, she saw something that shocked her.
A phone! A packaged phone! It was the latest iPhone on board, something she never thought she would ever get.
“Oh daddy!”.She beamed and landed a peck on her daddy cheeks. She was happy, just too happy.
“I got you something too”.Her mum said and Grace walked up to her.
Her mum handed her a wrapped box which she took happily. She unwrapped the box and saw something packaged in a glass box which was kinda shoving light into her eyes.
It was a necklace! Have you ever watched the movie, Titanic cause well, this necklace looked almost like the one in that movie.
Grace clapped her hand over her mouth, not only was she happy for the gift but for having such lovely parents.
“It’s so beautiful, thank you so much mum. Thank you!”.She hugged her mum and finally released her before glancing at Dave who was walking towards her with a small box in his hands.
Grace wondered what was in there.
“Here. Have it!”.Dave said, giving the box to her.
Grave received it warmly and quickly opened the box but a gasp left her mouth when she saw what was in it.
It was a silver bracelet and it looked really beautiful and expensive…
“Thank you Dave”.She smiled and gave him a brief hug.
After dropping the gifts in her room and spending some time with her family, she went out of the house to the garage. There, she saw Mr Lucas who was waiting for her like forever.
“Mr Lucas, am so sorr…”
“No please, it’s okay”.Mr Lucas said, cleaning off few beads of sweats on his forehead while Grace sighed before going into the car.
But she scoffed when she realized where she was headed – to Dylan’s house.
