Chapter Thirty Five

AUTHORESS PROSPER POV

She was surprised and speechless. Dylan..he did this for her? For her birthday? That was impossible!

She couldn’t believe it. Wasn’t it impossible? Like..why would he do this for her? For her! Oh Jeez!

“Y..ou did t..this?”.Her voice was low but questioning and curious.

She could feel her body hot as she glanced at the dark room. Though, she couldn’t see a thing anymore but her eyes were still fixed on the silhouette of the table.

Dylan ignored her and switched back the light on and then Grace could clearly see the items on the pretty table. She wasn’t imagining things, she wasn’t dreaming either but if she was, then nobody should dare wake her up from this dream!

She heaved a sigh, taking slow steps to the table. She heard the clock ticking. She heard her heart pounding loudly and she felt her body slightly shaken but truth be told, she didn’t expect all this…not from someone like Dylan.

She sat on the king sized bed which was beside the table while her eyes ran to and fro on the items on the table.

Their was seven drinks and eight foods. The foods was packaged in a plastic box each but she could tell their were foreign because of their name tag, however she was certain that she would like them.

“Hope you like it?”.She heard Dylan’s voice and she glance up to look at him only to find him standing beside her. She gulped down.

“Y…yeah”.Her voice was croaky, she felt her throat inch. “Thank you”.

She added, suddenly feeling excited. This actually felt like the best birthday she had ever had.

There were no party but this was more than what she ever wanted – a party.

Dylan said nothing as he sat beside her on the bed. Grace took in a deep breath trying to feel comfortable. To be sincere, she had never been so close to a guy before, except her brother, Dave.

“Why did you do this?”.Grace felt curious. “Yesterday, you avoided me like if I was a maggot. You were rude to me too and then suddenly you started being a gentleman today. Isn’t that something to be curious about?”.

Dylan inhaled. He knew she was right, he had been rude to her yesterday but what could he do? He was angry and had to unleash his anger on someone or something.

“Am nice, you don’t just see it”.

That was what he said and that was what Grace heard.

She knew he was right. He was nice. He had taken her to his library, he had allowed her to read his novels, he had even talked to her not ignore her. Well, isn’t that called nice?

Hmm…

She shrugged, feeling speechless. She suddenly didn’t know how to start a conversation again.

“You should cut the cake”.Dylan said and Grace stared at him, nodding her head.

Later on, Dylan handed over a small knife laying on the table to her. Grace shyly took the knife on her hands – This felt so weird!

She always cut her birthday cake in the presence of her family but today, it was just Dylan.

She shook her head, trying to get rid of the thoughts and then slowly though, she ran the knife through the cake.

“Happy birthday”.She heard Dylan whisper and her stomach rumbled, not because of hunger but for something else which was unknown to her.

“Thank you”.She mouthed shyly, biting her lips to suppress her shyness.

Dylan smirked, grabbing one of the drinks with the words ‘Shirley Temple’ written on it.

He poured the liquid on two glass cups on the table before handing one to her but she refused to accept it.

“Am sorry”.She muttered. “But I don’t drink alcohol”.

Dylan scoffed, expressing a frown.

“It’s not alcoholic”.He said, showing her the inscription written at the bottle. It was written ‘Non_Alcoholic Drink’.

“Oh!”.Grace almost face palmed herself. She actually thought it was alcoholic, the name of the drink really made the drink sound like it was alcohol.

Without hesitation, she accepted the drink from Dylan and took a sip. The drink was refreshing and tasty. She finished it within few seconds.

“Can I get another one?”.She asked Dylan with a cute smile on her face.

Dylan handed to her his which was untouched, Grace didn’t noticed this. She just took the drink from him and began drinking it happily.

Meanwhile, Dylan took a drink named ‘The Ruby Rose Cocktail’. He unsealed the cover and poured some of the liquid into a cup, he brought the cup to his lips and took a sip.

Grace watched him enjoy his drink and then, she felt like having one.

“Um, can I get the same drink as yours?”.

Dylan didn’t say anything until he finished his drink.

“You really wanna have one?”.He smirked and Grace shrugged.

“Yes, as far as it is not alcoholic”.

“Too bad. It’s alcoholic”.

Grace sighed sadly. She really wanted to drink some of those, even if it’s just a sip besides, Dylan seem to enjoy the drink, so why wouldn’t she enjoy it too?

“Just hand me a cup”.She found herself saying. “I will just take a sip”.

Dylan glanced at her looking amused. Nevertheless, he poured some quality for her into a cup and Grace warmly took the drink on her palm.

“Thank you”.She said and took a sip.

The drink was hot and it burned her tongue but still despite the bitter taste, she felt a little sweetness in the drink which made her earn for more.

She took another sip, another and another until the cup was empty. Then she turned to Dylan..

“Give me another”.Her voice was demanding..

“You don’t wanna get high, do you?”.He asked and Grace face crumbled up like if she was gonna cry.

So, Dylan just shrugged and poured some liquid for her which filled the cup. Grace took it happily and gulped it all down before ten seconds.

She felt dizzy and the image of Dylan was double. She rubbed her eyes with her fingers but his image was still double. What was happening to her? What did Dylan do to her?

“What have you done to me?”.She found it difficult to speak, her voice was croaky and she realized she was slurring.

“I did nothing! You drank alcohol and you got yourself drunk!”.

“No…”.She slurred, touching her forehead. She could feel a light headache. “You drank six cups but I just drank two, you should be the one drunk not me”.

Dylan didn’t say anything for the next few seconds, he was just putting on a serious face.

“Rest puppy. I will be back soon”.He said but Grace shook her head, pouting. The dizziness were much now and she suddenly felt heavy.

“You always call me puppy. Do I look like a puppy to you?”.

“Yes you do look like one. Haven’t anyone told you before?”.

“No, no one except you”.She let out a wide toothy smile. The alcohol have taken control of her.

“Just take some rest, I will be back soon”.He stood and left the room before she could protest.

She frowned and lay on the bed, counting her fingers and making silly sounds. Then suddenly she remembered she didn’t make a wish before cutting the cake.

“Gish! Am so forgetful”.She laughed loudly in a crazy way. “But that guy, Dylan he never smiles, right? Well, I wish he would smile everyday for me. Geez! That is not possible, he can’t smiles, not even for you Grace”.

“But why? Why can’t he smile for Grace?”.She laughed again loudly and then lay on the bed, talking endlessly about Dylan – mostly about his smile.

She didn’t even know when a heavy sleep took her and she laid on the bed with arms and legs widely spread at different directions.

She was now asleep!
