Chapter Thirty Four

AUTHORESS PROSPER POV

When the car stopped at Dylan’s house, Grace slowly stepped out of the car with a small frown on her face.

She didn’t want to come here, not that she will even spend more than an hour here, she will just check the diffusion experiment and then boom!…She leaves.

Mr Lucas glanced at her through the already opened window of the car. He knew today was her birthday, he had heard it from her house while he was waiting for her but he didn’t wish her.

He felt ashamed knowing fully well that he wouldn’t present any gift to her even after saying happy birthday to her.

What was the use of an happy birthday without a present? So, he thought..

Mr Lucas was a young man who work hard everyday to put food on the table. He was married and have two daughters named Angela and Mary.

Though he was in the middle class but his children go to one of the most expensive private school in the country. They were brilliant, they were on scholarship and he couldn’t be more proud.

“Hello? Mr Lucas?”.Grace asked in confusion as she glanced at Mr Lucas.

She had been talking to him but stopped when she noticed he was not listening to her.

“Mr Lucas!!”.She called loudly and Mr Lucas jolted out of his thoughts with his eyes widely opened.

“Grace, you are talking me?”.

“Of course I was. In fact, have been talking to you but you were not paying attention. Are you okay?”.Grace was a bit worried, she knew Mr Lucas not to be the absent minded type.

“Am fine, I was just um you know, thinking”.He said, pressing his back to the seat he was on.

“Okay then, I was just telling you to come pick me up at 4pm. That is one hour from now”.She said and Mr Lucas eyebrows rose in confusion.

“That is not possible. Returning back to your home and coming back here is almost close to two hours”.

“Oh!”.Grace mouthed disappointedly.

She didn’t want to spend much time with Dylan, she was sure that being in the same room with Dylan will suffocate her.

“But I can come pick you up at 5pm if you don’t mind”.

“No, I don’t mind at all. You can come pick me up at 5pm, I will be waiting”.She sighed and few seconds later, Mr Lucas drove the car away.

HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 31 – 40

A shiver ran through her body and she breathe out as she quickly rub her palm against each other feeling the friction.

Thereafter, she went to the gate and knocked on it hoping not to see Jasper but unfortunately, Jasper was the first person she saw as soon as the gate was opened.

He was frowning at her. Well, has he ever smiled?

This time around, he totally ignored her but his hateful glare couldn’t leave her face.

She herself ignored him too but her body did dense up when she saw him glaring at her.

The glare was scary. If looks could actually killed then no doubt, she would have died by now.

She left the gate and entered the house looking kinda nervous. She didn’t know why she felt that way but she was sure it was because she was in his house. Dylan’s house.

Taking a deep breath, she walked to the study room but when she opened the door, she saw Dylan making a call.

“Search every hooks and corners for him. Don’t rest until you find him. Don’t sleep. Don’t even dare take a break! And when you find him, don’t hesitate to call me. Remember, be careful! Duncan is quite a cunning serpent of the devil!”.

She had heard him say but when he noticed someone’s presence in the room, Grace’s presence, he disconnected the call.

He stared at her briefly before taking his eyes back to his phone. Meanwhile, Grace sat on a seat and brought out the beaker from where she kept it. To her surprise, the crystal had spread through the whole of the beaker.

Yeah! She was happy but she didn’t show it cause she could clearly remember what happened the last time she did.

Okay? So, what is she going to do now? She couldn’t just stay put without saying or doing anything, that would be one hell of a boredom.

Shrugging, she thought of what to do to keep herself busy but nothing came to her mind. She thought of reading novels but that seem like an impossible task cause she was sure Dylan wouldn’t let her go to his library. Well, would he?

But what if she asks him? That wouldn’t be a bad idea, right? No! She shouldn’t even try asking him, it might be a bad idea but she should just give it a try, just a little try.

She placed her palm on her jaw contemplating. She kept stealing glances at Dylan trying to read his expression but Dylan’s face was as hard as a rock as he glanced at his phone.

Dmmit! She badly felt bored, she badly wanted to keep herself busy.

“Um…”.She cleared her throat, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. “Can I go r..read so..me no..vels in your library?”.

Dylan didn’t reply her neither did he turn to look at her but she was sure he heard her.

“Please…”.She begged. “I wouldn’t take long, I will just read few novels and leave, I promise”.

Still Dylan didn’t speak or even look at her.

She suddenly regretted why she ever asked him and the fact that she actually begged him made her want to change the hands of time.

Dylan stood and took few steps out of the room. Grace watched him with a frown. So, he was gonna leave her here, huh? To die of boredom?

Unexpectedly Dylan stopped as soon as he reached the door and with a deep, emotionless voice, he said;

“Follow me!”.

Grace felt confused as to what he said. Did he want her to follow him? She thought but quickly stood when she noticed he was out of the room.

She caught up with him and followed him from behind but her eyes kept staring at Dylan’s back.

Even though he wore a shirt, she could still see the muscles and big green veins popping out from his skin. He looked like he do gym a lot cause he was muscular and fit.

‘Hey, this is not the way to the library’.She had wanted to tell him when she realized he was taking another route but she kept shut.

He pushed a door open, revealing a spacious room with a king sized bed, a brown beautiful wardrobe and few other beautiful things in the room.

The walls was painted in a pale silver colour which added much beauty to the room.

Besides, what made her gasp was the expensive drinks, foreign food and the round pink cake with the words ‘Puppy’s Birthday’. All this was on a table close to the bed, the table was decorated with flowers too.

Suddenly, the light turned off. The only lights brightening the room was the short dim candle light on the cake.

Grace couldn’t believe what was happening but before she could let out another gasp, she felt a hot breath fan her ears. It was hot and it kinda made her ears curled up.

“Happy birthday, puppy!”.She knew that voice. She knew it was him, it was him who said that, it was him who did all this.

Dylan!!
