Chapter Fifty Three

GRACE POV

My eyes slowly went open at the sound of something beeping. I felt weak and light like a polyethylene; my vision was blur but it became clearer after four seconds or so.

I could see mum sitting on a couch in front of a bed…. Wait! I get it now… Am laying on a bed, am in a hospital.

I do remember what happened to me but am supposed to be in the school clinic, right? But here doesn’t look like a clinic, it look more like an expensive hospital.

“Mum?”.I called and her eyes ran into mine. Her eyes…. They were red and watery.

“Oh Grace, you’re awake!”.She smiled, wrapping her arms around me.

I wanted to reciprocate but I realized that a drip was being connected to the back of my palm.

“Christ! You scared me Grace, you scared me”.She looked happy as she pecked my forehead before disengaging from the hug.

She cleaned off the tears which dropped on her cheek and then she stared at me again, her happiness brightening her face.

“You forgot your inhaler at home, huh? And I didn’t remind you, how bad of me!”.

I shook my head slowly.

“It isn’t your fault, am the one to blame”.

“Oh baby”.She pecked me on both sides of my cheek. “Take some rest now, okay? Am gonna go meet the doctor to inform him that you’re awake but please, while am away don’t stress yourself. Dave will be here any minute, he went to bring some food for you”.She said and after sharing another brief conversation with me, she left to go meet the doctor.

Some minutes later, Dave came with my food and we talked, laughed and did some funny things to create some fun.

He was the one who mostly do the talking while I listen and ask questions when curious.

“So, I was told someone brought you to the school clinic when you were unconscious”.He said, licking off the jam which littered on his lips.

HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 51 – 60

We were currently eating bread and jam for breakfast. Breakfast? What is the time anyway? Is it morning, afternoon or evening? Well, I’ll ask him that later.

“Uh-huh”.I urged him to continue.

“I asked the nurses about who brought you there but they told me they didn’t know the person’s name. So since I was curious, I ask them to describe the person to me”.

“Seriously?”.I rolled my eyes.

“Yeah, seriously. I really did wanted to know who saved my sister’s life”.

I paused at this, knowing fully well that it was Dylan. Oh Dylan… I will surely remember to thank him later.

“The nurses told me he was a male, a very handsome and muscular guy. They said he got a lustrous dark hair which was styled in a way that screamed dangerous. They also said he wore black clothes and an earring was wore on his……”.

“Jeez, how long did you listen to them?”.I had to cut him off.

I didn’t want him to know that my saviour was Dylan… The quiet devil.

“It doesn’t natter how longed I listened to them, it only mattered what I listened about and I don’t know Grace but if you look closely into their description, you will realize it fit into Dylan”.

“So, what are you trying to say?”.

“All am trying to say is that, Dylan might be the one who took you to the school clinic, you know?”.

My breath hitched when he said that and I felt my body shake, more like vibrate. I guess he saw this too and he drew closer to me.

“Are you okay, Grace? I can call the doct..”.

“Don’t worry, am okay”.

I didn’t know why my body shook like that but I loved the feeling I felt when it did.

It felt more like a sweet tingling scent passing through my nose, commanding my body to reach out to it, to earn for it but that feeling came at the mention of Dylan. At the thought of Dylan lifting me from the ground and taking me to the school clinic… How lovely of him!

Wait… What am I thinking? Geez! Cut out of it, Grace.

“Listen Dave, Dylan wasn’t the person who took me to the school clinic”.

“And how did you know he wasn’t the one. You were unconscious”.

“I was but before I dropped unconscious…”.

“Don’t use that word, drop”.He said and I rose my eyebrow confused.

“Why?”.

“Why you said dropped unconscious, it actually sounded like dropped dead and I.. I didn’t like it”.He fondled with his fingers, his eyes going dim.

“You had no idea how I felt when I heard you were unconscious, I almost died. Yeah, it was hard to take in and I rushed to the school clinic only to find an oxygen mask on you. The nurses and doctors were all over you like bees over their honey because your case was a serious one, you were at the point of death”.

Okay I didn’t know how I was feeling right now hearing that I almost died but it certainly wasn’t a good feeling.

“When you wouldn’t open your eyes, I had to inform mum and dad and you were transferred to this hospital. We were all worried sick but ah, I can now breathe seeing you breathe and talk”.He smiled and pecked my forehead.

“Rest now Grace and next time you make me feel so worried, I will never ever talk to you again”.

We both laughed at his joke and then silence followed, only the sound of him pulling the white blanket over my body was heard.

“Hey! What did you think ya doing?”.I pulled the blanket away with my free hand.

“Didn’t you hear me when I said rest now? It clearly means you should stop talking and relax”.

“But I don’t wanna….”.

“You have to! If you wanna get well soon”.He pulled the blanket over my body again, staring at me like if I was gonna push the blanket away but when he saw that I didn’t, he flashed me a smile. “Okay now, sleep well kid and dream about me”.

I smiled when I heard the words ‘dream about me’ but my smile faded when I remembered what he said first ‘sleep well kid’. Like seriously, kid?

“Hey, am not a kid”.I frowned and his smile turned into a smirk.

“You are. According to what I remember you are sixteen and am eighteen and if you are eighteen and above, it means you’re an adult but if you are eighteen below, it mean you are a teen which makes you a kid”.

“Oh really?”.I rolled my eyes. “A person becomes a teenager at thirteen and when does it end? At nineteen of course but ya eighteen which makes you a teen and a kid”.

“You are not serious”.

“I am serious but you don’t wanna acknowledge the fact”.

“Gish! Whatever… Am still an adult, being a teen doesn’t change anything since am eighteen but you, you’re still sixteen and not an adult yet”.

“Being an adult or not doesn’t concern me, it matters only to guys for reasons I don’t understand”.

“Yeah surely you wouldn’t understand cause you’re not a guy and you’ll never be”.

That did anger me a bit but I just sighed and scoffed.

Being a guy? Eww… That would be the last thing I would ever be. Which female would want to be a boy? Oh, the senseless ones of course.

“Look Dave, am a kid, you are a kid, it doesn’t matter but it’s pretty annoying when a kid calls another kid a kid. I felt offended, seriously”.I pouted and he clapped his palms together apologetically.

“Sorry. Would you forgive me?”.He’d look cute when saying this and I let out a smile.

I wished Vanessa was here, seeing him this way, she would have blushed shyly.

“Yes I would, besides it was just a joke, right? Nothing more”.I chuckled and pulled the blanket together to cover my whole form.

“Ahh, I feel kinda sleepy”.I yawned a little as my eyes began shutting and opening like a malfunctioning computer.

“Well, sleep as much as you want. Am right here with you”.I could see him smiling and I returned the smile before sleep took in.

Dylan felt very weak as he walked into an hospital; Help For The Helpless. Truthfully he felt helpless at this moment but he just have to gather some strengths and pretend to be strong.

Yep, that’s what he have been doing. Putting on an expressionless face, frowning and staying quiet even though he wanna be around people.

Taking in few breaths to calm his raging heart, he walked to the reception, to the receptionist who had been staring at him all along.

In fact, most of the people in the hospital have staring at him but he doesn’t care about any of them and their stares.

“Hello? Welcome to Help For The Helpless Hospital. How may I help you?”.The receptionist licked her lips, admiring the young handsome teen. He do come here sometimes so she didn’t take him as a stranger.

“Doctor Scott, is he in?”.His voice was cold and dark and that was what the receptionist actually liked.

“Y…yes he is in but he is currently busy, you know how busy doctors can be, right? Anyways, you can book an appointment to meet him tomorr….”.

“I don’t wanna book any damn appointment and I wanna freaking see him right now!!”.

His loud, deep, scary and frightening voice echoed through the walls of the crowdy hospital and everyone kept silent, staring at the angry teen who made that noise.

Just then Doctor Scott arrived…
