Chapter Sixty Three

GRACE POV

“W…what?”.I gasped with disbelief echoing around every area of my voice. I couldn’t just believe what he asked.

He wanted to say something but my phone rang, cutting him off. I took my phone on my palm and swipe the answer button. It was Mr Lucas call.

“Good afternoon sir”.

“It’s actually evening Grace, it’s 5pm”.He said and my eyes scrolled to the time on my phone, it was 5:27pm. Oh God! I can’t believe I spent four hours here, I came exactly at 1pm.

“Okay but….”.

“Am outside the gate right now, hurry up”.He disconnected the call and I sighed heavily.

“You’re leaving?”.Dylan asked and I turned to face him.

“Yes, my driver was the one who called. He is waiting at the gate”. I stood. “We both answered all the questions and no one drank any of these nasty drinks”.

I glared at the drinks on the floor.

“Well, one of us didn’t answer a question?”.

“Who?”.

“You”.

I breathe out, folding my lips. “No… I can’t kss you Dylan, I can’t kss anybody. The kss we had last week was a mistake and I will try my best not to make it happen ever again. Am sorry but um, I have to leave now. My driver is waiting”.I said and headed for the door.

“Puppy?”.I heard him call and turned back to him with an eye roll.

“Call me Grace please, puppy sounds childish and well, am not a dog”.

“Okay, as you wish… Grace, um don’t take what I said to heart, I was joking and I did it just to see your reaction”.

“Wait… What?”.

“Yeah and I’d see your reaction, you looked like you just saw a ghost”.He chuckled and I glared hard at him.

Seriously? That was just a joke? Geez! I almost fainted.

“That was not funny, Dylan”.

“It was, believe it or not. I almost wanted to voice out my laughter when you are like I can’t kss you Dylan, blah blah blah, it was hilarious”.

I scoffed. “Yeah whatever, I gotta go now, bye. See you on Monday”.

I walked out of the room and headed to the gate. I still haven’t seen Mrs Skylar and I was a bit curious to know where she was. I should have asked Dylan that during the AOD game, how could I forget?

“Ugh! Leave and never return.. I hope never to see your shtty face again”.Of course you must know who said that, Jasper the frown king. Humorous.

“Then you’ll have to become blind”.I spat out and went out of the gate.

He’d had ways to spoil my mood, I hope never to see him again too.

Sighing, I saw the driver, Mr Lucas in the car, his eyes on me.

“Good evening Mr Lucas”.I smiled and got into the car before he drove off.

“Jeff?!!!”.I yelled. It was as if I couldn’t believe my eyes, was I slowly going blind? Oh yeah, I should better wash my eyes and visit a clinic.

“Oh baby, see how you’ve grown”.The woman who calls herself my mother said, standing to hug me but before she could wrap her dirty hands around me, I pushed her off and she fell roughly to the floor.

“Jeanie!”.Dad yelled in shock with eyes opened widely. “How dare you do this to your mother?”.

He drew mum to himself as she winced, holding her waist which must be aching badly.

I was angry, furious, it must be obvious. They abandoned me for four months and even when I threatened mum to return the next Sunday, she returned after three Sundays. Can this life be at least fair to me? But no, they aren’t my family, not anymore.

“Ann….”.

“Please Jeffrey, keep it!”.I was now transferring my aggression to my brother. I was happy to see him but I was angry he left me for months after knowing how lonely I would be.

He called, he texted but he stopped some weeks ago. I thought it was network issues but now my mind was saying something else, that he stopped loving me and probably felt like abandoning me.

“Jeanann, do you even know the distance and cash we wasted to come here. Do you even know the important things we left behind?”.

“Well, read my lips. I don’t fking care!”.Calm down Jean, don’t use the F word, I told myself and breathe out.

“W..what? I can’t believe you have become so insolent. We came back only because of this woman you pushed, we didn’t come back because of your empty threats or whatever. So do respect our stay and go back to your room because we wouldn’t be staying for long”.Dad said and I fumed, fisting my fists.

“Of course, I forgot my manners. Sorry. I’ll have to honour the visits of my visitors”.I faked a smile and yelled, “Marian!”.

The maid hurriedly walk to the living room and bowed slightly. “Yes miss Jean?”.

“Are you blind? Can’t you see we have visitors? Quickly go and bring some wines and chips or fries, just go bring something”.

“Yes miss Jean”.She bowed and walked away.

“Jean, we aren’t visitors, okay? We are fam…”.

“You are visitors. Visitors are people who go to a house or a home, they don’t stay long and that’s exactly what you guys are doing”.I cut mom off, smirking widely.

“Ann, calm down. I know you’re angry but….”.

“But what, Jeff? But what? You suddenly stop taking my calls, you stop replying my messages or chats. It was like you stopped being online or active, you always see my messages but you never reply and you think that’s funny. You think I would take it slightly or probably you thought am in the mood for pranks or silly plays. No, ya wrong. Am furious now, have changed. I don’t care if am insolent or rude cause you guys deserve every amount of the treatment am giving you. Am disappointed, mostly in you Jeff. You were supposed to be by my side, you were supposed to support me and not be like this people that called themselves parents but what did you do? You changed and became like them”.

“Ann, I… I am sorry but my accounts got hacked and probably the hackers were the ones seeing your messages. Like if that was not enough, my SIM card got lost and I had to replace it, that’s why I couldn’t call you”.

“Oh save me the crap, Jeffrey!”.I scoffed. “Am not stupid, you can’t lie to me. Fine! I can believe that hackers hacked your account but I can never believe you couldn’t call me because your SIM card got lost. You will still be able to call me because you got my phone digits offhand”.

“I know but I forgot it, I guess it was because of work and how busy I have become. I just won an award as a singer and lots of entertainment industries are seeking for me. I signed a contract with few of them so I have been busy as a bee”.

I gulped, realizing I have been wrong. His accounts got hacked and his SIM card got lost, because of work he have forgotten my number and here I am blaming him for nothing.

“A..am sorr…”.

“No, don’t apologize Ann. Am still at fault, I left six months ago and I didn’t return until today. Am sorry for that but I would make it up to you by staying here for two months until I get ready to leave for Germany”.

“Oh thank you Jeff”.I smiled, imagining myself playing and laughing with someone again.

“But Ann, I would like if you forgive mum and d…”.

“Please Jeff!”.I frowned and glared at my parents who were watching us. “I can never forgive them. The chose not to be my parents when they decided to be tourists, traveling to different places of the world, observing and taking note of useless and stupid things. I was tired of waiting for them to return. They hardly do answer my calls and when they do, they hang up few seconds later saying they are busy or in one stupid meeting or the other. Am so angry at them Jeff, even the sight of them angers me more. They should just leave and never return, I don’t wanna see them anymore”.

“We are sorry, Jean”.Mum cooed with tears in her eyes. “We are deeply sorry, we have offended you emotionally without even knowing. We hurt your feelings by taking our job before you but it wasn’t our intention. When you call and we say we are busy, we are indeed busy and when we don’t call, our phones are down because the place we mostly go to doesn’t have electricity. We are sorry. I know you wouldn’t forgive us just by hearing sorry from us but I just want to let you know we are truly sorry. I and your dad wouldn’t leave soon as we planned, we’ll leave the next three weeks just to show you how sorry we are and when we do leave we will call and message you nonstop until you get tired of receiving our calls and messages. Just… Just don’t act rude and cold to us, don’t treat us like strangers, we’re your parents not visitors and it do hurt when you treat us like one”.

I wanted to speak but the maid came in, interrupting me.

“Here is your drinks Ma and Sir”.She kept the drinks she brought on the table before leaving. Don’t blame her for treating mum and dad like strangers, she only met them once before she was employed. She must have forgotten their faces.

“Uh… I will be in my room”.Not knowing what else to say or do, I turned around and walked away.
