Chapter Sixty Six

GRACE POV

FLASH_BACK ?Yesterday

It was a Sunday. Dylan was in his room with his phone on his palm trying to locate Duncan. His boys (Dylan boys) had placed a bug on one of Duncan boys but he was not able to locate him, it seem like the bug was malfunctioning or probably, it must have been taken off.

He frowned and tossed his phone aside running his fingers through his hair. At that moment a call came in and he sluggishly picked the call, he wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone.

“Dylan”.It was Doctor Scott. “Come to the hospital, the result is out”.

He didn’t know why the Doctor sounded so sad but trying not to mind, he ended the call and took his car keys before leaving the room.

When he got to the hospital, he parked the car at the parking lot, then he went in, to the reception.

The receptionist saw him and gasped slightly, remembering that he was the guy who had almost broken the hospital walls with his shout.

“Hello? Welcome to Help For The Helpless Hospital. Am…”.

“Is Doctor Scott busy?”.He cut her off and she tried hard not to frown as she tagged him rude.

“No, he isn’t. Do you have an appointment with him?”.She could remember that this was the question that made him shout the other day but today she was determined to kick him out if he dares raise his voice.

“No but he called me to come over”.Seeing the disbelief on the receptionist face, he showed her the last call on his phone and the receptionist nodded sharply, handing him a printed paper.

“Please, write your name and sign here”.She pointed at a particular spot on the paper and Dylan heaved a sigh. He hated all this but he didn’t want to create a scene like the last time, so he have to comply.

He took a pen from the girl and wrote his name, then he signed. The girl took the paper but shook her head, dropping it back.

“You didn’t write your surname, why?”.

Dylan gritted his teeth. “It’s not your business”.

“It is mister. In here, Visitors who have an appointment or are called over by a nurse or doctor write their surname on a form, it’s a must”.

Getting irritated by her attitude, he called the doctor, Doctor Scott.

“Hello, Dylan. Have been expecting you, why aren’t you here?”.

“Am here at the reception but this dmn receptionist kept me here”.

The receptionist frowned deeply.

“Mister, such slangs aren’t used here. Please mind your words”.

“Shut it!”.He scowled at her before concentrating on his call.

“Dylan? Please don’t create any scene, I will be there in seconds”.The Doc disconnected the call and Dylan smirked.

Doctor Scott knew him too well, how wouldn’t he? He has been his patient for more than four years.

“Have some respect, will you?”.The receptionist spat out but Dylan ignored her.

Soon, Doctor Scott came and turned to the receptionist.

“Sonia, keep this in mind! Whenever he comes, let him in”.

The receptionist named Sonia nodded but a frown was still visible on her face.

However, Doctor Scott and Dylan walked away into an office. The doctor sat on the head chair while Dylan sat near him.

“Dylan please learn to be patient”.

“Am patient but that Sonia girl is too annoying”.

“No, she is not. If you get to know her, you would realize how nice she is, you would even like her and probably become friends with her”.

“Never!”.Dylan scowled and the Doc chuckled, crossing his legs.

“So, the result, give it to me, I wanna see it”.

The Doctor’s expression changed intently. “Dylan, the result is a shocker. Please do control your emotions while reading it”.

Dylan could sense the sadness in his voice. “Is anything wrong?”.

The Doctor didn’t reply. He just brought out a paper from nowhere and handed it to Dylan.

Dylan hands shook as he read it and suddenly a tear rolled out of his eyes as he banged the table angrily.

“What is the meaning of this bullsht?”.He threw the paper on the Doctor who caught it effortlessly.

“Am sorry Dylan, I too couldn’t believe it. I had to carry out another test to confirm if it was really true and it came out same as the first one”.

“No”.More years rolled out of his eyes, he have never cried this much for a long time. “Their got to be a mistake, a problem, some wrongs”.

“Please calm down, Dylan. You’ll be fine”.

“Don’t say that. How can you say that when this damn result says I have less than ten days to live, how am I even sure that I wouldn’t die tonight or tomorrow or next tomorrow or next…”.

“Please control yourself Dylan, you may never know, you could be fine tho it’s at its final stage but if you keep praying, you might come out fine again”.

“Oh please drop that. Do you know how many times have knelt and prayed? But guess what, nothing change instead my condition grew worse”.

No wonder he bleeds, his heart itches, he sometimes catch a migraine. He is getting thin, his blood draining, he feels weak and light. He has little or no appetite for food, he hardly sleep, he sometimes feel numb and unable to move as if struck by paralysis. He now faints often, more than usual and the pain he feels is getting more unbearable. All this was happening because it was at its final stage. Oh Goodness!

“Doc, please do something”.

“Sorry Dylan, their is nothing I or anybody can do. Am sorry but miracles do happen, wish for one, pray for one, hope for one, it may come your way”.

Tears flowed out from Dylan’s eyes. He cried for a while, while the Doctor just stared at him emotionally, pitting him.

“I have less than ten days, right?”.He suddenly stood, his face and shirt soaked in tears.

All his dreams was crushed, falling into the gutters without him doing anything about it. Darn it! This wasn’t what he thought of, what he wished for. Life is one he.ll of a bch!

“Yes”.The Doctor replied bluntly wondering what he was thinking of.

“I gotta go now, Doc. Nice meeting you”.

Of course it wasn’t nice meeting him but Dylan wouldn’t admit it.

Sluggishly as if counting his steps he left the office.

END_OF_FLASH_BACK

“Oh God”.Grace was already crying as she stare at Dylan who just finished talking. “This can’t be happening. No, no, this is just a dream, a nightmare. Oh Jesus!”.

Dylan was just staring at her, his face pale.

“When did that start? The disease, when?”.

“When I was four. My parents treated it but when they died my treatment stopped and it started decaying. At twelve I went to Doctor Scott who I heard about and he began the treatment but he stopped when the meds and injections became expensive. I had to undergo a surgery worth two millions but I didn’t have the money, years went by and the payment increased but unfortunately I still don’t have the money. It got to it final stage and well, it’s gonna kill me, am gonna die”.

“Don’t say that Dylan, please. We would do something, anything, you can’t die, you can’t just leave me alone”.Grace continued crying even as Dylan pulled her in for a hug.

“I guess it’s my fate but now stop crying, when you do, my heart suddenly beats faster, increasing the pain I feel”.
