HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

Chapter 65

Author: RACHEAL DENNIS.

Mr Baldwin adjusted his sunglasses, and pulled his base cap down to shield his face from the scorching sun, before shoving his hands in his pocket, and leaned against his car.

He his brows furrowed in a deep frown as he pulled out his cellphone and checked the time, then he impatiently looked towards the opposite side of the road, it’s been quite some time since Lucas left to get his aspirin, and still haven’t come back yet.

His frown deepened even more when he saw Lucas jogging towards him, with a lady’s bag in his right hand.

“Mr Baldwin” Lucas called breathlessly.

Mr Baldwin gave him a strange, and questioning look.

“What took you so long?”

Lucas gestured Mr Baldwin to hold on as he was still trying to stabilize his breath, but his (Mr Baldwin’s) eyes moved to the lady’s bag in Lucas’ hand.

“And why the h’ll are you carrying a woman’s bag? Did you get in trouble?” he raised his brows.

Lucas shook his head, he sucked in some air, and pushed some of his fallen strands of hair back, before speaking.

“It’s Mrs Baldwin’s”

Mr Baldwin was about pulling the door open, and get back in the car, but he abruptly halted immediately Lucas said those two words ‘Mrs Baldwin’, his shoulders tensed and his mouth parted slightly as he slowly turned back to face Lucas.

“M-Mrs who?” he asked to confirm if his ears were actually working fine, or if he has misheard the words.

“Mrs Baldwin’s” Lucas repeated his words.

Mr Baldwin snatched the bag at once, he held it tightly as he stared at it, desperately and longingly.

“I bumped into her immediately I left the pharmacy, but she…” he trailed off, since he doesn’t know any acceptable way to say the words hanging in his throat.

Mr Baldwin slowly raised his head when he realized Lucas wasn’t saying anything, or was even ready to say anything.

“Where’s she? Where’s my wife?” he asked through clenched jaws, and gritted teeth.

“I’m sorry, Mr Baldwin but she..she…she…”

“She fking what?!” Mr Baldwin roared, making a few heads turn towards them, but they quickly minded their businesses.

Lucas lowered his head, and gulped nervously before speaking again.

“..she ran off when she saw me”

“She ran off?” Lucas nodded. “And you let her go? You couldn’t chase her?!”

“I did chase her, but she was running too fast and…”

“Useless!”

Mr Baldwin cut him off by sending a ki¢k to his (Lucas’) right thigh.

“She’s six months pregnant, Lucas, how can a six months pregnant woman outrun you?!”

“I’m sorry, sir, but I didn’t chase after her, because I was worried about her and the baby’s safety”

“Fk!!” Mr Baldwin growled as he angrily kicked the car’s tire.

“Sir, I swear, I purposely let her get away because I thought about your son, Mrs Baldwin might stumbled on something and fall if I continue chasing her, and your son might get hurt”

Mr Baldwin covered his face with the bag as he let out heavy breaths, but didn’t say any more words when he realized Lucas is right.

Keeping his son safe is everyone’s top priority, after all his son is the only way he can get his wife back, and keep her by his side until she’s ready to forgive and accept him again.

“Fortunately she left her bag behind, so I brought her it back with me, and hopefully, we’d find some important information inside”

Mr Baldwin nodded.

“At least we’ve confirm she’s here in New Orleans” he said.

He quickly opened the car, slide in and shut it in a loud bang.

“Quick, drive me home”

“Your home here in New Orleans, or a hotel?”

Mr Baldwin glared at him, Lucas cleared his throat and nodded as if Mr Baldwin just passed him a secret message.

“Your home” he concluded by himself, and quickly got into the driver’s seat.

Mr Baldwin’s phone rang immediately the car started moving, he reached for it and saw Fatima’s name flashing on the screen.

“Fatima” he answered the call.

“Sir, I’ve got the documents you requested” she said.

“Good. Buy a ticket, and bring it over to my home in New Orleans”

“Yes, sir”

RACHEL’S pov.

“Thank you, sir” I thanked the driver.

I reached for my bag to pay him, but suddenly remembered how I had carelessly left it behind when Lucas was chasing me. I searched my pant pocket, fortunately for me there were still few cash with me -I guess even heaven is helping me.

I paid the driver his money, and alighted his cab. I waited until he’s drove off, before walking towards Asher’s home.

My eyes carefully scanned the area to make sure there wasn’t any suspicious looking human following me, because I’m sure Duncan’s men has dominated New Orleans since Lucas is here.

After making sure I wasn’t being followed, I raced towards the porch, and hurriedly check underneath the flower pot for our spare key, then opened the door and rushed in.

I shut the door in a loud bang, and hurried towards the kitchen to get a bottle of chilled water.

My eyes closed momentarily as I gulped down the water, I felt my temperature cooling down as the water circulate inside my body.

Funk! What a marathon -ok, that’s an exaggeration but you know what I mean.

My eyes moved towards the wall clock, it’s already 5pm and Asher will be back in a minute…oh, he’s back already.

I sprang up, kicked my sneakers off my legs and walked towards the living room -thankfully, I was wearing sneakers else I wouldn’t have been able to get away from Lucas so easily.

Asher smiled when he saw me coming out of the kitchen.

“Yo, darling, you’re hom…” he trailed off as his eyes landed on my foots. “I have told you numerous times to stop walking around the house barefooted” he scolded me.

I walked towards a sofa, and slumped on it, but winced quietly when I felt a sharp pain at my lower back.

“Where are you flip-flops?” he asked.

I shook my head.

“I don’t need them right now, my legs are still tired from the 2000 meter race and…”

“2000 thousand meter race?” he asked with a shocked expression.

“Yep” I gulped down the remaining water, and slammed the empty bottle on the table.

Asher squatted to my level, and his eyes started searching for any physical injuries.

“Why on earth were you running? Can’t you see racing isn’t good for condition? Or are you thinking of having a mi$carriage after suffering for so many months already?” he nagged.

He raised his head, and threw me a glare when I wasn’t saying anything. I sighed softly.

“I was getting away from someone”

“Getting away from someone? To the extent of running such a distance?” he eyed me.

“It’s my husband”

“Your husband?”

I nodded.

“He’s here in New Orleans, and I don’t think he’s gonna leave without me, not now that he’s known I’m here too”

“Busted!” Asher growled.

He got up and kicked the sofa with his shoe, then pushed his hair back, and angrily threw his briefcase on another sofa.

“I was very careful when I was faking your identity, I made sure it’ll be hard for him to find you, but the b@stard still found you!”

“Hey, don’t call him a ba$tard, his son is listening” I said jokingly, while pointing at my stomach.

But he didn’t even glance my way, he was just clenching and unclenching his jaws angrily, which I honestly don’t know why or what he’s angry about.

He suddenly faced me as if something just occurred to him.

“I have a perfect idea”

“What?” I asked.

“Let’s relocate”

“Relocate?”

He nodded.

“Let’s move to a new place, and I know the perfect we can move to”

I stayed silent, and studied his expression.
He looked so desperate, and scared of losing something? Is that me?

“No” I said.

“No?”

“I don’t wanna move” I told him.

“You don’t wanna move? What if he gets to know where you live?” he asked. “Well, that is if he already doesn’t know by now”

“I can’t continue running away, our meeting is inevitable and I can’t escape from him no matter how long or how far I’ll run”

“But… ”

I rubbed my tummy fondly with a smile.

“Our baby is already a permanent connection between us, and it’s better I face him now and let him know what’s on my mind”

Asher’s eyebrows furrowed instantly.

“You wanna come back together?”

“H’ll no!” I exclaimed loudly, and shuddered at the thought of Duncan and I coming back together.

I saw him sigh from my peripheral view, aren’t I giving him high hopes?

“I’m not coming back together with Duncan, and I’m not gonna date any other guy too”

“Huh?”

“Yeah, men are scums” I said looking straight in his eyes, which made him roll his eyeballs in return.

“I’m not like other men” he defended himself.

“Yeah, right”

My stomach growled loudly, and I felt the worms in my stomach fighting and eating up each other for survive.

I looked at Asher with pleading eyes, and blinked innocently at him.

“You’re hungry?” he asked as if he doesn’t understand my look.

I nodded anyway, but he released a mocking laughter in return.

“I’m not cooking for you, not until you take back your words”

“My words?”

He nodded.

“Which of them?” he narrowed his eyes at my question. “You know, I said a lot of things just now”

“You said men are scvms…”

“Oh, did I say that?”

I released a nervous laugh.

“You aren’t included, you’re very different and honorable, your character, manner and taste are so impeccable”

I sang his praise and he nodded in delight, I can already imagine the joy flowing in him at the moment.

“Now get your bvtts in the kitchen and cook dinner!” I ordered him.

The smile on his face wiped off, and he threw a playful glare at me.

“Just know I’m cooking dinner for my son, I don’t wanna starve him” he said, and rushed towards the kitchen.

Asher never learn, but I guess he’ll learn in a hard way if Duncan hears him referring to his (Duncan’s) son as his (Asher’s).

I leaned back and let out a sigh, I wondered if a miracle could just happen, and Lucas didn’t get to see my bag.
