HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

Chapter 70

RACHEL’S pov.

I couldn’t help but frowned in confusion as the driver drove into this huge compound, instead of stopping outside the gate like I have instructed him when we arrived.

I hit the headrest of his seat to get his attention, and he tilted his head slightly to let me know I’ve gotten his attention.

“Aren’t you supposed to stop outside the gate?” I asked him.

“Uh…”

I frowned even more, like seriously? Uh? Did I board a p$ycho’s cab?

“… I drove in because the hotel management allows cab drivers drive their passengers in”

“Oh”

I looked around the hotel as we drove past the trail of perfectly trimmed flowers, with a water fountain in their middle and a statue of… someone I don’t know.

Is this supposed to be a hotel? But why do I feel like it’s someone’s home?
Because this definitely a looks like a mansion, or is this supposed to be a penthouse?

While I was still feeling confused, and mentally questioning myself, the cab driver drove into a garage, and my eyes caught a very familiar figure, in fact, she’s someone I have been praying and hoping I wouldn’t run into -Fatima.

She stood by the porch, and seemed to be barking orders at some men, or maybe she’s scolding them because their heads were lowered.

But what on earth is she doing here?
I mentally facepalm myself, silly me, of course she’d be here because her boss is here, she’s always where her boss is.

OMG, she must be very mad at me for leaving without letting her know.

I’ve got to hide from her, or she wouldn’t mind disgracing me here, because Fatima has no shame, and to make things worse, she becomes a p$ychopath whenever her angry mode is activated.

A man rushed towards us, he reached for the back door and pulled it open, then smiled at me.

“Mrs Bald…”

“Shh!” I shushed the man, even though it’s obvious that Fatima can’t hear him from here.

He gave me a questioning frown, but I ignored him since I’m looking for ways to hide from Fatima. I quickly alighted the cab, and grabbed his right arm.

“Hey, are you here to escort me to Mr Baldwin?” I asked, because I know that’s what he’s here for.

“Yes, ma’am”

I smiled.

“I’m sorry, but I’m gonna need your help”

“My help?” I nodded. “Ok…what or how may I help you?”

I looked towards Fatima’s direction, her back was facing my direction and she hasn’t seen me yet.

“I’m gonna hide behind you as we walk in” I told him. “I’m hiding from her” I pointed at Fatima.

He simply nodded in response, and we started walking towards the door with me walking behind him, and lucky for me, his back is wide enough to cover me.

We successfully made it to the door, he reached for the handle and pushed the door open, then gestured me to go in.
But I was suddenly pulled back, when I made an attempt to step inside.

“Mrs Baldwin?” I heard Fatima called me.

I tensed like a deer caught in daylight, then slowly turned around to face her, and burst into a nervous laugh -she also join me.

“Long time, no see, Mrs Baldwin” she said, emphasizing on each word that proceeded from her mouth.

I had nothing to say, so I could only continue laughing. But I stopped laughing when she narrowed her eyes at me, and tried to take a step back but she held me in a spot.

“You actually left without telling me, I ignored that and still tried to reach you on phone, but every single calls I made went straight to voicemail” she paused and stared disappointedly at me. “How dare you, Rachel?! Does our friendship of six years worth nothing to you?!” she gritted.

I rolled my eyeballs, because I know she’s about to unleash her dramatic personality.

“Fatima, I was just too angry, and confused at everything that was happening and…”

She raised her hand to stop me, and listened to someone on her bluetooth plugged in her ear, then she sent me a glare.

“Mr Baldwin wants you inside right now”

I nodded quickly, and made to rush in but she pulled me back again.

“We’re not done yet, you’ll tell me why you left without telling me!” she growled lowly.

“Yes, ma’am” I did a salute, and rushed in.

“This way, Mrs Baldwin” my escort made way for me, and I walked into the dinning room.

“Mr Baldwin” he bowed respectfully at Duncan, who was already walking towards me immediately he saw me.

My eyebrows furrowed as I took in my surrounding, this doesn’t look like a hotel but a home.

“Welcome, my heartbeat” Duncan greeted me with a smile, and made to hug me but I held out my hand, and stopped him.

“Answer me honestly, is this a hotel or not?”

He looked around briefly, then turned back to me as if he’s just realizing where we are.

“Oops, sorry, my heartbeat, I must have made a mistake and given you our home address earli…”

His words were stuck in his throat when I threw him a very harsh glare, and he coughed lightly to clear his throat.

“You tricked me” I stated.

“No, I was just…”

“Just what? And why did you trick me?”

“I…”

His shoulders swayed down when he couldn’t find words to defend himself, I shook my head in disappointment.

“You thought I wouldn’t come if you had told me we’re meeting up at your place?”

He nodded.

“Yeah, and…”

“When are you gonna stop lying to me, Duncan?” I asked. “You invited me over so we can sort out our differences, but you’re still lying to me”

We stayed silent for a moment as I stared at him with a frown.

“I.. I’m sorry” was all he uttered.

“You’re sorry?” I snorted. “But why do I feel like you’re not sorry at all?”

“I was just scared you wouldn’t come if I had told you we’re meeting here”

Like seriously, why did I fall in love with a liar?

“My heartbeat, we… ”

“I’m starving” I cut him off.

My eyes moved towards the table that’s filled with different kinds of dishes, and my mouth watered.

“Let’s just eat, and go straight to the point” I said.

He nodded, and pulled out a chair for me, I sat down and he quickly sat on the chair next to me.

“Cook everything myself, and they’re all your favorite, which dish would you like to start with?” he asked with a small smile.

I looked around the table for a while, then pointed at the plate of spaghetti and meatballs.

“I hope the sauce is extra spicy?” I asked, because I throw up these days whenever I eat bland food.

“Extra, extremely spicy”

I nodded, and he started serving me.

A While Later

“Excuse me” I said and burped softly.

I licked my fingers as I pushed my empty plates aside, then reached for a glass of orange juice and finished it in one gulp.

Ok, let’s put my anger aside, but Duncan surely knows exactly how to win my heart. How did he even know I don’t eat bland food lately?

Hold on, is it because of my love for Duncan that’s making me think these dishes were delicious? Or the dishes were naturally delicious?

“Want more crabs?” he asked, but I shook my head.

“Let’s talk about my purpose of coming here today” I reached for my phone on the table and checked the time. “It’s getting late”

He nodded, but we stayed in another moment of silence as he was thinking of what to say, or how to say whatever he wanna say, and I was just staring at him impatiently.

“Are you gonna speak already?”

He took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly.

“I.. I admitted that cheated on you, but.. but.. but it wasn’t intentional”

“Oh?” I leaned back on my chair.

“Yeah, I really did went to Wetland that day, but it wasn’t to meet up with Tasha, I was supposed to meet with Ferrari… ”

“Ferrari? Wasn’t he involved in an accident that same day?”

He nodded.

“Then how did Tasha get to know about your supposed meeting with Mr Ferrari? And how did you ended up fking her?”

He shook his head.

“I don’t know”

“You don’t know?” I asked.

“I was drugged that day, my mind and brain were disorganized, and I thought Tasha was you”

I raised my eyebrows at him.

“Yeah, I saw Tasha walked into the room, but I was seeing you instead and I swear, I was even moaning your name that day” he sighed deeply. “I really did thought she was you”

He reached for his phone, and typed a few things before handing it to me.

“Here’s the footage of what happened” he said.

I reluctantly reached for the phone, and watched the footage.

My mouth parted slightly when I saw Tasha, and a woman who had her face covered with her scarf, talking outside the room where I had caught Duncan fuçking Tasha, then Tasha rushed in.

I guess it was this mysterious woman that sent me the video, it was her intention for me to leave, but why haven’t she taken any actions since I left? Or is she planning something bigger?

“I really didn’t plan to meet with Tasha”

It’s true, I trust him and I know he wouldn’t cheat on me intentionally, but he doesn’t seem to know the real reason I left him.
I handed his phone back to him.

“I believe you, but do you even know the reason I left?” I asked.

“Because I cheated?”

“Really?”

He nodded, but I shook my head.

“You lied” his brows furrowed in confusion. “I left because you lied smoothly to my face”

“I…”

“I was hurt, deeply hurt that you cheated on me with my sworn enemy, but I tried not to mind it and gave you a chance to come clean with me, but what did you do in return?”

His eyes turned red, it’s almost as if he’s trying to cry?

“You decided it’s better to lie to me, than telling me the truth”

“I’m sorry, I…. ”

“Stop saying you’re sorry, because you’re making it sound so cliche!” I snapped at him.

“My heartbeat, we shouldn’t… ”

“I wanna be honest with you, Duncan”

He gulped, and nodded.

“I sure do love you, in fact, I’m still hopelessly in love with you, but I can’t come back home”

“H-huh?” he stuttered.

“I can’t come home with you, not until you get your shts back together”

“My heartbeat, please, don’t be like that, I grew up without my father’s love and I have promised myself that my child would get the best father’s love, care and attention in the world… ”

I cut him off with scoff.

“Well, you’re doing a very bad job then”

“… just come back with me and I promise I’ll… ”

“You promise you’ll what?” I cut in. “Duncan, I really can’t raise my child in an unstable home, we both still need a lot of space to sort ourselves out -at least, you need to sort yourself out”

“I should sort myself out?”

I nodded.

“Then tell me, tell me what you need me to do, and I’ll do it” he said readily.

I stayed silent for a moment as I studied his desperate expression, I could see how sorry he is and, I could see his willingness and readiness to change.

“Settle scores with whoever your enemy is, and after that, we’ll attend a marriage counseling session to know if we’re truly right for each other”

“Marriage counseling session? To know if we’re right for each other?”

“Yes, it’s the only thing that can save our marriage at the moment” I said.

Then snatched my bag from the table, and headed towards the door, but stopped abruptly when I was hugged from behind.

“Don’t go” he whispered in my ear.

“Let go of me”

“No” he said firmly yet tenderly. “I’ve missed you a lot, just spend tonight here and let me hold in my arms tonight”

My eyes involuntarily located the wall clock, I gasped mentally when I realized it’s already 9:13pm, like, I didn’t realize we’ve been talking for such a long time.

“Let me have a good sleep for just tonight, please”

“Duncan, I’m still very upset and I can’t share a b.ed with you”

“I know, I know” he nodded quickly.

He turned me around in his arms, and made me face him.

“Let’s just do Netflix and chill, with me holding you in my arms, and I’ll carry you to one of the guestrooms once you’ve fallen asleep”

I eyed him suspiciously.
Well, it’s kinda late and I’m a pregnant woman, parading the streets during late hours isn’t advisable.

“Are you sure you’ll bring me to one of the guestrooms?”

“Of course”

“I don’t wanna wake up to find myself in your room, talk more or less of your bed”

“Uh… ”

He closed his eyes, inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly, then nodded.

“I.. I’ll keep my word” he said.

“Promise?”

“Promise”

I eyed him a few more times, before nodding in approval and he grinned widely.

“But I don’t have a nightwe…”

“Oh, our closet is filled with your clothes” he cut in.

My eyebrows furrowed.
Our closet? Don’t tell me this is how each of his mansions and penthouses has female clothes, especially made for me.

“My clothes?” I asked.

He nodded.

“I had Fatima go shopping for you”

“Oh” That’s so thoughtful of him. “Lead the way then”

“Gladly” he took my hand, and pvlled me along with him towards the stairs.
