Chapter 97

Author: RACHEAL DENNIS.

THIRD PERSON’S pov.

Tasha Wood’s car was parked at a safe distance as she watched Mrs Jackson walked out empty-handed, there was a smirk on her (Tasha’s) lips, which later wiped off and was replaced with a frown.

“She’s taking actions that would benefit her, then what about me? What’s gonna be my gain in our collaboration?” she wondered aloud.

Her eyes narrowed as she seemed to have come to a realization.

“I must do something for myself, I’ll be the one losing after everything, because it doesn’t look like she’s thinking about my interest in all this”

She reached for her phone and dialed a number, then waited for a few seconds until someone picked up at the other end.

“Miss Wood?”

Tasha smiled, more like smirked.

“Doctor Roberts, I have a very important job for you tomorrow”

“Oh? You’ve got a job for me after such a long time?”

“Yes” she answered. “I’ll drop by your office to discuss the details tomorrow” she said and hanged up.

Her eyes were fixed on the Baldwin’s Mansion for some time, then she burst into a series of laughter.

“Rachel, you wouldn’t know what hit by the time I’m done with you!” she promised.

The Next Mornin

“Fk!” Mr Baldwin groaned as he woke up.

He crawled towards the edge of the bed, and sat with his legs touching the floor as he massaged his forehead gently.

“Good morning, sir” Lucas greeted him with a bow immediately he walked in.

His eyes scanned the room, and he released a sigh when he saw how Mr Baldwin had turned everything upside down.

Mr Baldwin had refused to go straight to bed last night, he insisted on drinking more to help him calm down, but looking at his room’s current condition, it’s obvious he wasn’t able to calm down at all.

“Hm” Mr Baldwin simply hummed, as he continued massaging his forehead.

“Here, sir” Lucas stretched a glass of water, and aspirin to him. “It’s gonna help with the hangover” he said.

Mr Baldwin nodded, and collected them, and gulped the aspirin down quickly, then shut his eyes and sighed deeply.

He got up and headed towards the bathroom, unbuckling his belt along the way.

“Any news from Ferrari?” he asked.

“Yes, sir”

“Hm-mm?”

“We’ve caught the man in black coverall that always sneaked into Mr Ferrari’s ward last night, and I found out he’s one of our men” Lucas reported, which made Mr Baldwin halt abruptly.

He balled his fists and narrowed his eyes as his jaw clenched tightly, showing how angry he was.

“Have he been interrogated?”

“Not yet, sir, we’re waiting for your orders”

“I’ll make that id!ot regret ever betraying me!” he growled lowly and stormed into the bathroom, closing the door in a loud bang.

RACHEL’S pov.

Baldwin’s Mansion, LA -08:11am

“I still haven’t discussed with my husband yet” I said as I carefully, and slowly walked down the stairs.

“Oh, ok” Jacinta replied in a very low tone. “I should hang up then, I have stuffs to do”

“Hm” I hummed and hanged up the phone.

I stopped abruptly immediately I took the last step, and narrowed my eyes at Mrs Jackson as she was pouring some milk in a glass.

Isn’t that the milk from last night?
I thought I threw it in the waste-bin last night, or are my eyes deceiving me? And why do I keep on having this uneasy feeling everytime I look at the milk?

“Oh, Rachel” nanny Pamela’s voice pulled me out of my thought. “You’re awake” she said.

That was when Mrs Jackson noticed my presence, and turned to me with a smile which I think is very fake -that’s strange.

“Come on, Rachel” she walked towards me. “I cooked your favorite this morning” she said while ushering me to the table.

Honestly, I don’t know if it’s just me being paranoid, but I’m starting to see through her; like I can see her fake smile now. I just need Duncan to investigate her, and confirm my doubts.

“Why are you frowning? Are you ok?” Nanny Pamela asked immediately we made it to the dinning table.

I quickly put on my own fake smile, and sat on the chair Mrs Jackson pulled out for me.

“I’m fine, nanny” I answered, and looked around the table. “I’m just feeling a little nauseous since I woke up”

Nanny Pamela frowned slightly at my words, she leaned forward and felt my temperature.

“Your temperature is fine” her frown deepened. “Then what could be the problem?”

I was about saying something, before Mrs Jackson dropped the glass of milk she’s poured earlier in front of me.

“Here” she gestured at the milk. “Have some warm milk and you’ll be fine” she said.

Nanny Pamela nodded in agreement and poured herself a glass of milk too, I reluctantly reached for the milk but didn’t drink it immediately, I waited until nanny Pamela drank hers and waited a few seconds for any reaction, but there was none -she looked fine.

Why is she fine after drinking the milk? Isn’t this the same milk from last night? Or could it be I was overthinking things?

“Rachel, your milk is getting cold” Mrs Jackson reminded me.

I sighed and brought the glass closer to my mouth, but halted abruptly as a thought crossed my mind.

Could it be nanny Pamela wasn’t affected because she isn’t pregnant? Could it be whatever Mrs Jackson added to this milk is only harmful to pregnant women?

“Rachel?” she called me again, and gestured to the milk again.

She wouldn’t urge me to drink the milk if it wasn’t p®isoned, right?
I must play smart here, or my baby and I would be in danger.

“Are you ok, Rachel?” it was nanny Pamela that questioned me this time. “You’ve been spacing out” she added.

I put on a fake smile, but made sure Mrs Jackson wouldn’t see through it, and shook my head.

“I’m fine, I was just thinking if I should go shopping for baby’s clothes today, or not”

“Oh”

I lifted my hand, brought it closer to my mouth but purposely let the milk slip off my hand, and pretentiously gasped loudly -it’s a lame excuse, but I couldn’t think of anything else at that moment.

“Oh my God!” I exclamation loudly as though I was shocked. “What did I do?!” I blamed myself.

Mrs Jackson reached for a napkin, and quickly dabbed the spilled milk off the table.

“Don’t beat yourself, Rachel, I’ll pour you another glass” she said, and poured me another glass.

I accepted it with a smile, then pretended to take a large gulp and stored some milk in my mouth.

I waited for ten seconds or so, then sprang up my chair and rushed upstairs towards I and Duncan’s room, with my hand over my mouth as though I’m trying to stop myself from vomiting.

“Rachel, are you ok?” Nanny Pamela asked in a worried tone, but I only shook my head at her since I couldn’t speak.

I took the steps two at a time, but was careful not to slip and fall. I made it to our room, rushed in and slammed the door shut, then locked it from inside.

I rushed to the bathroom, spat out the milk in my mouth and rinsed my mouth with some water, then sighed deeply.

I stepped out of the bathroom and walked towards our bed, I sat on it and reached for my phone. I dialed Duncan’s number, but as usual, it went straight to voicemail.

It wasn’t up to two minutes, then I heard nanny Pamela and Mrs Jackson talking outside my door, nanny Pamela sounded genuinely worried if I’m fine, but Mrs Jackson was trying to convince her that I’ll be ok after some rest.

I must be wary of Mrs Jackson, she must be working with Duncan’s enemy. I know it’s just my assumption, but what could be her reason for working for Duncan’s enemy?

If only I can get through to Duncan right now!
