CHAPTER 13

Valerie wasted no time in grabbing his hand tight
He pulled her up and started running with her again
She tried her best to keep up with his pace till they’re completely out of the place
They got to the main road and he let go of her hand
The light of a coming car shone on her
Her gown is all torn and her hair is still scattered, her lips has bloodstains, her face has dried tears and her cheeks is swollen
“Thanks very much” she spoke first
Another look at her gown, he took off his pullover and threw it at her
She caught it and looked at him
“You know what to do, not like I’m happy to give you though” he said
She put it on and at least, it covered her upper body
He sighed “no one needs to tell you to get yourself treated” he said
” I don’t want to go to the hospital” she replied slowly
” Your wish, then go home” he replied
“I…I don’t know the way to my house from here” she replied , tugging at her tattered gown
Honestly the place looks strange
” This is annoying” he said, running his hand through his hair
“Where do you live?” He asked
“Quads province, phase 4” she replied, sniffing
He stopped a cab and told her to get in
She obeyed and he brought out his wallet, he payed the cab man
“Tell the cab man where you’re going, I guess I’ve tried enough” he said and walked away
She told her address to the cabman and he moved the car
Sooner than she expected, they got to her house
She thanked the driver and stepped out of the car before going in
Susan can’t believe her eyes when she saw her daughter
“Valerie!” She almost screamed
“Mum” she replied and hugged her, letting her tears fall again
” What happened to you?, Who did this to your face?, Just look at your cloth, Valerie what happened” she said, checking her out after breaking the hug
” I was calling you but your phone was ringing in your room, you left it” she continued
” Mum I almost got rapped” she said
“What!”
“But thankfully someone saved me, mum I was so scared, I thought what happened to my sis was gonna happen to me too, I was scared and that fear almost killed me” she said, crying more
” Oh my daughter” Susan said and hugged her again, she’s crying too
“Who’s this lifesaver?, Who’s it?” She asked
“Mum you don’t need to know”
” What are you talking about , he saved your life” Susan replied
” I’ll tell you when the time comes mum, but right now I’m still scared mum” she replied
” I know, your whole body is still shaking” she replied, taking her to her room .
She swiftly went downstairs to get icepack from a neighbor
She came back with it and gently pressed it on her swollen face
“Ouch!” She winced slowly
“Sorry darling” Susan said
” Let’s not tell Melanie about it” Valerie said
“I understand* Susan replied
She warmed water for her to drink so the pains in her mouth will relieve her
She changed her clothes after taking a shower, making sure she kept Dwayne’s pullover on her hanger
Then Susan gave her pain relievers and made sure she’s lying on the bed before trying to sleep on her reading chair
“No mum, you can’t possibly sleep on that” Valerie said
” I want to watch you sleep tonight” Susan replied
“Your neck will hurt on that, come sleep beside me instead” she replied
“Your bed is too small for two people” Susan replied
” But I share it with Melanie when she was still here” she replied
” If you insist” Susan said and went to sleep beside her
Valerie hugged her under the sheets and Susan kssed her forehead
“Sleep tight baby” she said
“You too mum” she replied
“My vrgnity would have been stolen in the cruelest way ever if not for him” she thought

Dwayne got home and took a quick bath first
Yeah he lives in a big house, only him
No maids, no cleaners, no driver or whatsoever
He cleans the house by himself, cooks by himself when he feels like cooking
Eating is not a daily routine to him, he might not eat for a whole day at times and he’ll be fine
But when he decides to eat, he mainly eats bread and butter
The only thing he cooks is noodles
Yeah he has a boring life, extra boring
After taking his bath, he sat in front of the mirror and disinfected the new bruise she got
“can’t believe I got wounded cos of her” he muttered as he attached a piece of plaster to the small wound
His face is used to plasters cos one way or the other, he’ll always get wounded
He went downstairs and took two slices of bread from the dinning
He took a butter container and went to the living room, he sat and is about to start eating when a message popped up on his phone
He checked and it turned out to be from Darien
*The next time you talk badly about my mother, it won’t be just a slap, I’ll make sure you kneel and beg in front of me*
He dropped the bread with him immediately and threw away the butter
Then he switched off his phone and sat back on the couch
He closed his eyes, trying to let his anger clear off

“Chef, why don’t you drive with I and daddy today, you’ll see my school, it’s big and beautiful, only the uniform is what I don’t like about them” Robin said during breakfast
Philip looked at Melanie, waiting for what she’ll say
“Is it right?, I mean riding with…
“It’s nothing wrong, just ride with us, please chef…. Please or I’ll cry” he said with a pout
” Ok… While you finish your meal, I’ll go dress up” she replied and went upstairs
Philip smiled without realizing
Melanie came back downstairs in another twenty minutes, wearing a bum short and a white shirt on snickers
Then she swept up her hair in a neat bun, making her full hair edge glaring
She used a star hairpin and just little lipstick on her small lips, then she rubbed a little power
“I’m… Ready” she said
“Wow chef you look amazing, you should always dress like this” Robin said and winked
” Oh really? ”
” Sure, dad am saying the truth right?, Chef looks too good” he said, facing Philip
” Oh… Sure” he replied awkwardly, stylishly staring at her
They left the house together and got in his Bugatti Veyron
The driver moved the car
Robin sat between the two of them and kept smiling
“Why that mischievous smile?” Philip asked
“Right now I feel like I’m sitting in the middle of my parents too” he replied, looking at Philip intently
” That again” Philip said
Melanie pretended like she didn’t hear that, she stared out of the window
Robin suddenly held her hand with one hand, he held Philip’s hand with the other hand
They both looked at her
“I love you both” he said and stood on his seat, he pecked Melanie first before pecking Philip
They both smiled widely
The car stopped in front of Angelina kiddies school and Robin came down from the car
Michelle is waiting for him by the gate with her dad already
Philip came out with him
“Hi Michelle, were you waiting for me?’ Robin asked
” Yes, we’ve been waiting since five minutes ago, she says she wants to go in with you” Mr Jerome, Michelle’s dad said
” Oh, and here I am” Robin replied with a big smile
” Morning Mr Albert” Mr Jerome greeted
“Same here, how’re you doing Michelle?” he asked
” Fine Mr Albert” Michelle replied in her tiny cute voice
*It’s magic voice!*
*He’s Robin’s dad!*
*My mom loves listening to his old songs and I love listening to it too!*
*He resembles his dad a lot*..
The kids commented as they entered the school
“Oh!, Lest I forget” Robin said and went back to the car
“Chef, I need to introduce you to my crush” he said
“No I can’t come down Robin” she replied
” Then I’ll start crying” he replied and pretended like he’ll really cry
“Ok I’m coming down now” she replied and came down
Robin smiled
Philip can’t help but stare again
Robin held her hand and led her to where they’re standing
“Michelle meet my chef, her name is Melanie” he said
“Hi chef” Michelle waved
“Cute you Michelle, I hope you’re as good in your studies as he is” Melanie replied
*Sure, we’re the two best in our class, we always take turns to get first position” Robin answered
” And the assignment you helped him with…the oxymoron stuff, he’s the only one who got it in our class, you’re smart” Michelle said
” Oh I forgot to tell you chef you’re awesome, I got it” Robin said
” Great” Melanie replied
Philip and Mr Jerome kept smiling
*Who’s that? she’s pretty!*
*Is she her mum?*
*No I heard her mum is a runaway wife*
*Then who’s she?*
The kids commented again
“Ok bye dad!” Robin waved
Philip waved back
“Bye chef” he waved too, Melanie waved her two hands
“Bye dad!, And by the way chef, Robin told me a lot about your delicious food, I hope to taste it someday” Michelle said
” Sure” Melanie replied
“Bye” Michelle said and went into the school with Robin
Mr Jerome bid his bye and left too
Melanie got in the car with Philip and the drive to her school started
Philip occasionally touched his chest, begging it to calm down
Robin’s space is vacant between them so there’s a lot of space
The drive to her school was awkward cos they never spoke, but Melanie decided to break the silence some meters away from her school
“Michelle is awesome too” she said
“Yeah… but can’t be awesome as Robin, right?” He said
“yeah” she replied with a big smile on her rosy cheeks
” Chef” he suddenly called
” Sir?” She replied when the car got to the front of her school
“Robin told me to get him chocolates while coming back from work, I feel like getting you something too, what should I get?” He asked
She looked at him and their eyes met
” What should I get for you?”
No one has ever asked her that question and for that reason, she feels special that seconds
“Caramel candy will do sir” she replied
“That alone?” He asked
” Maybe…. chocolates too” she replied, picking on her nails
“Sure, take care” he said as she got down from the car
She waved as his car drove away
She entered the school, smiling a lot

Lighthouse highschool**
Valerie’s face is still swollen a bit though Susan suggested that she stayed home but she declined
She dressed up for school and put Dwayne’s pullover in a bag
She held it to school
Lillian can’t hide her surprise when she told her the story
“Damn those fuck guys…but to think Dwayne saved you… it’s unbelievable” she said
” I know, he even gave me his pullover though he wasn’t friendly but I’m grateful” Valerie replied..
Lillian sighed
“unbelievable” she said
Darien is in class already, staring at Valerie since she entered the class
Dwayne came in during the first class
“He got a new bruise on his face” Lillian whispered
“Yes, while saving me” Valerie replied
Dwayne’s eyes met with Val’s when he’s going to sit
But he looked away unconcerned
After the first class, they have tweny minutes before another class
Dwayne left the class and Valerie followed, taking the bag containing his pullover
She caught up with him by the stairs
“Dwayne!” She called and he looked back
She came closer and pointed the bag at him
Darien watched from the hallway
“What’s between those two?” He wondered
“What should I do with this?” Dwayne asked
“It’s your pullover, thanks for last night and hope your head isn’t hurting too much” she replied
” I have no plans to take it back, I don’t wear something that has been put on by another person” he said and left
Valerie inhaled hard and made to go but someone pulled her back roughly, slamming her back on the wall
“Ouch!’ she winced
It’s Whitney
” What were you talking to Dwayne about” she said, looking at her dangerously
” I..I… nothing” she stuttered
Whitney snatched the bag from her and opened it
What she saw made jealousy overtake her
Dwayne’s pullover and a note which says “thanks for last night”
She burned with immense anger
” What are you!, Are you a slut selling yourself to him already!, Are you!” she yelled
” I’m not” she replied slowly, looking at the floor
Whitney lifted her chin, forcefully making Valerie face her
“Then what? Pro$titute what!” She said authoritatively
” Let go of me” Valerie said
Whitney laughed lightly before getting serious again
She raised her hand for a slap but someone held it
Valerie’s eyes is still closed, expecting the slap
“You have two choices, the first one is that Immediately I let go of your hand, run off to class…. The second one is that immediately I let it go, slap her and get slapped too” the voice said…
Valerie opened her eyes and Whitney looked back….
