EPISODE 10
I bashed out immediately Nkechi saw me and started giggling. James called me insistently but I ignored him.
He came out as though he went ballistic.
“Are you m ád? Why did you shrug me off?” He shouted like he wanted to eat me alive.
I was sitting close to the security house and I turned deaf ears to what he was muttering.
“Mezuo! Oga James is talking to you” Mr Femi said. “Do you want to get sacked? please pity your poor mother at home” he added.
I smirked “No! he will do no such thing” I replied.
James now came towards me yelling “I will certainly sack you once I am made the managing director of this company”.
Pronto, Nkechi made her way out and pleaded with James not to waste his strength that he will soon sack me.
They both kssed as she was pleading and pains filled up my heart because I still loved Nkechi so much regardless of what she had done to me.
Nkechi looked at me scornfully as they headed inside.
I was flummoxed at some point after they went inside.
“Have Nkechi seen me since I came out of the cell?”
“Why wasn’t she astonished when she saw me earlier?” I kept contemplating.
Instantly, Mr Femi touched me and grunted “go and open the gate immediately, are you hearing-impaired?”
The sound of the horn was really deafening.
“Are you déaf, stupíd man” Mrs Adaobi the woman in charge of the human resources department said like she wanted to bite off my head.
“Sorry ma” I replied.
She looked at me from head to my toes and sighed loudly.
I smiled broadly as she left. “This boy, you will be sacked soon, you’ll see,” Mr Femi said pointing fingers at me.
I kept smiling knowing fully well that it can’t happen –I can’t be sacked.
Towards the end of that day, I went to Rita’s office and told her that it was time.
“I want to take over the post as an MD,” I said with a low tone.
Rita stood up straight away and hugged me saying that she had been the managing director for many years since her husband died.
I was wowed and she started kssing me like she was on cloud nine.
“No stop that, why are you kssing your gateman?” I asked her jokingly.
She chuckled and didn’t stop kssing me.
Before she left, she announced that there will be a meeting the next day for the appointment of the New managing director.
Mr James was elated when he heard the announcement. He called me shortly to come to his office.
I went sluggishly to see what he will gibber
“You’ll be dismissed tomorrow surely,” he said and burst into laughter”
“But why sir?” I asked.
“No reason, you must be dismissed tomorrow! Now get out!” he roared.
I left his office laughing slowing at him and in my mind, I couldn’t wait to stun him the next day.
