A LIAR AT THE ALTAR SEASON 2: CHAPTER 11 – 20
Chapter 13
“You’ll sleep on the couch and I’ll sleep on the bed.”
“Why do I get to sleep on the couch? I’m the one doing you a favour here by keeping your secrets and playing the fake husband.”
“Fine! I will sleep on the couch. It’s comfortable anyway.”
I raised my hands in exasperation, he smiled.
“You give up easily, roomie.”
“Don’t call me that.”
I growled and turned to leave.
“Nice shorts.”
He screamed after me.
A LIAR AT THE ALTAR SEASON 2: CHAPTER 11 – 20
I woke up early the next day and got ready for work in the bathroom with the door locked, Ryan was still snoring under the covers.
My neck was hurting from spending the night on the couch, I ignored the pain and made myself something to eat.
Vina came out five minutes later on a beige gown that hugged her body, her hair was packed in a neat bun and her makeup was perfect.
She was in a hurry, she only had coffee and left. Ryan came out yawning,
“What’s for breakfast?”
He asked taking the seat next to me on the island.
“I don’t know, I’m already late for work.”
I stood up and put my lunch in my bag.
“I need some cash.”
He told me as I headed for the door.
“Are you for real right now?”
He shrugged.
“You are insane.”
I told him and wore my tennis shoes.
“It’s up to you Chloe, give me some money or I tell your friend your secrets and let’s not forget the father, I’m sure he’ll be happy to find out about his son.”
My breath ceased, he smirked seeing the look on my face.
“I told you, Hermione, told me everything.”
I dug my nails into my palm trying to control my anger, I was scared at the same time.
I brought out my purse, I took out two hundred dollars and threw it at him.
“Add one more hundred.”
He said when I turned to leave, I wanted to argue but he gave me that you know what happens if you refuse.
I took out a hundred dollar note and threw it at the floor, glaring at him.
“Good girl.”
I was in a rage when I got to the hotel, I avoided my friends and went straight to start cleaning the rooms assigned to me.
The second room I was cleaning was so scattered, clothes were thrown on the floor, empty pizza box and biscuit wraps.
I spent almost an hour in the room, I got frustrated when the vacuum cleaner stopped working.
I kicked it and groaned. I wanted to kick it again, but my leg got hooked in the laptop cable, the laptop fell into the bucket filled with the water I used to mop the bathroom when I tried to pull my leg free.
“Sht!”
I brought out the laptop, I stared at the water that dripped down from the laptop.
“What are you doing?”
I turned around and met a very angry face, the huge guy strode to where I was and snatched the damaged laptop from me.
“Oh my God, what did you do? I have important files on this laptop.”
“I’m so sorry it was an accident.”
I almost stuttered.
The next thing I knew I was standing in front of a very pissed Mrs. Carter.
“I have given you countless opportunities, Chloe, but you keep making me regret it.”
“It was an accident.”
“I’m sick of hearing that!”
She snapped.
“Let me go straight to the point, I have spoken to Mr. Finn and he also agrees it’s best to let you go.”
“Are you firing me?”
“Yes, I’m sorry.”
A LIAR AT THE ALTAR SEASON 2: CHAPTER 11 – 20
Mrs. Porter made me a sweet lemonade juice after I told her about my job at the hotel, she kept apologizing when I told her about Ryan. She offered to speak to him and I told her I wasn’t interested in having a pretend husband anymore, my plan was to avoid Tristan in any way possible.
I stayed at her place till it was dark, I was relieved when I didn’t see Ryan. I went straight to sleep, the look on everyone’s face when they found out I was fired replayed in my head.
Life was so unfair.
Ryan kept asking for money and threatening to spill my secret if I didn’t give him.
I succeeded in getting a weekday shift at the diner.
Vina kept seeing us as love birds and Ryan didn’t miss a chance to flirt with her.
A LIAR AT THE ALTAR SEASON 2: CHAPTER 11 – 20
It was Thursday and the diner was busy, I was left to lock up.
I took out the trash and locked the door, I turned around to leave but saw Tristan.
He was leaning on his car with his arms folded, he smiled at me but I looked away and headed to the street to my apartment.
It was a cold night, I wrapped my arms around myself and kept walking. The light blue waitress uniform was just like my uniform from the housekeeping job.
Tristan caught up with me with his long strides, we walked side-by-side in silence.
His familiar cologne brought old memories, I brushed them away and stared at the trees outlining the streets.
“Why are you working so much?”
He finally said something, I didn’t say anything.
“Adrian told me you lost your job at the hotel.”
“So what? Are you here to tell me I deserved it too?!”
I stopped and faced him.
“No, I want to help.”
“I don’t need your help!”
I screamed.
“Why did you reject the money?”
He asked in a calm tone.
“Cause I don’t want anything that belongs to you or your family.”
“You wanna keep suffering?”
“Whose fault is it Tristan? The last time I checked I ended up this way because of you and your family!”
I said poking at his chest.
“I know it’s my fault okay? And I wanna make things better.”
I laughed at his statement.
“Better?” I said stepping closer to his tall form, I didn’t want to remember anything from the past but he was pushing me.
“What is your definition of better? Lies? Secrets? What? Or do you think accepting your money would change what you and your family did to me?”
Sadness filled his eyes and I could see the guilt making its way to his face.
“Will, you just give me a chance? I’m not asking to get back with you but to give you a comfortable life, it upsets me to see you work like this.”
“Well, I don’t need that, I’m very comfortable with my life. I’m happily married and my husband is the sweetest and most caring lover a woman could ever ask for.”
“I’m glad you finally found the right guy, I’m happy for you.”
His eyes looked sad as they stared at me.
“I’m sorry I hurt you, Cassie, and I wish I never went with their plan. I just wanted the pain to stop and my mom was desperate. I’m really sorry.”
“Whatever. I don’t care,” I said and started walking away but he kept following me.
“So, your husband, what does he do?”
“Is none your damn business just leave me alone, Tristan! I’m not joking about the restraining order.”
He came to stand in front of me blocking my way.
“It’s been three years, Chloe, are you ever going to forgive me?”
“No,” I told him and took the other way.
He didn’t come after me.
I shook my head and walked faster to my apartment. I leaned on the door immediately I entered, my heart was beating rapidly.
“Is someone chasing you?”
I heard Ryan’s voice from the living room.
“No.”
I eyed him and went to the kitchen to get a bottle of water. He was dressed in khaki pants and an orange shirt with a black leather jacket, his hair looked too oily.
“Going somewhere?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, please don’t make any noise when you’re entering the room, I’m a very light sleeper.”
“I will try.”
I released my hair from the hairband as I headed to my room.
“I need money.”
I froze.
“Five hundred dollars will do.”
He said nonchalantly.
I turned around with the meanest look I could muster up, I was literally broke because of him.
“I don’t have any money and I will never give you that amount of money.”
“I guess you don’t mind me selling your secret to the media, imagine the chunk of money I will get. I’m sure Tristan Sanchester would award me if I tell him….”
“Stop already!”
“Give me the money.”
He gave me an intimidating stare.
“I don’t have any money on me, grow up Ryan.”
“I want it now!”
I groaned in frustration, I was boiling red right now. I might end up doing something crazy.
“You forgot to tie your shoelace.”
I told him with a firm smile.
I grabbed the flower vase next to the bookshelf and knocked him out when he looked down.
I stared at his unconscious form for a long second still shock from what I just did.
I checked his pulse if he was still alive, I sighed in relief when I felt it.
I took a glance at the wall clock, Vina would be home any minute. I swallowed nervously not sure of what to do next.
I grabbed both of his shoulders and dragged his heavy body to my room, I dragged him all the way to my closet.
I got a rope and duct tape, I grabbed one chair and pulled his body all the way up to a sitting position.
I sat on the floor panting when I was done, he was freaking heavy.
I stood up after getting enough rest, I tied him to the chair and taped his mouth and hands.
“I’m so sorry.”
I said and left the closet.
