A LIAR AT THE ALTAR SEASON 2: CHAPTER 11 – 20

Chapter 20

I dropped Kayden gently and ran to his body, I checked his pulse and he was still breathing.

He was losing so much blood, I stood up and ran to the kitchen to get something to stop the bleeding.

I paused with a horrified look when I saw Morris on the floor in a pool of blood.

“Morris?”
I reached down and felt his pulse, I exhaled loudly when I saw he was still breathing but I didn’t know how long he’d last.

I pick Tristan’s phone immediately I saw it. Thank God it wasn’t broken.

“Oh come on!”
I groaned when I found it locked.

I smacked myself mentally when I realized you could make emergency calls even if the phone was locked.

I dialled 911 and explained the whole situation and gave them the address.

I grabbed three towels and ran to the dining, I knelt next to his body and tried to stop the bleeding.

I took a glance at the kitchen, I didn’t know how to help both of them at the same time.

“Stay with me please, help is on the way.”
I whimpered touching his cheek with my bloody hand.

I took a glance at Kayden, he was staring at me oblivious to the whole scene. I smiled at him not knowing what else to say.

“It’s okay baby, Daddy spilled jam on his shirt.”
I said with a smile.

I tied one towel to his arm where he was shot while I pressed the other to his stomach.

“Cassie.”
He called weakly, he held my hand that was holding the towel against his stomach.

“I’m here, Kayden is here. Stay, be strong they are coming.”
I said sniffling.

I looked at the kitchen, I needed to get to Morris and help reduce the bleeding, I turned back to look at Tristan. He was drifting slowly to unconsciousness.

I bit my lips hard trying not to let the sound of my cry escape my lips.

I stood up and ran to the kitchen, I grabbed another towel and went on my knees next to Morris.

My hands won’t stop shaking as I searched for where the bleeding was coming from, he wasn’t shot, something had hit his head.

I cried deeply not knowing what to do, I heard sirens.

I stood up and ran back to the dining, Tristan was holding Kayden’s hand but his eyes were closed.

I checked his pulse again, I sighed in relief when I felt something.

Paramedics ran in with stretchers and first aid kit, one took Kayden out quickly to check if he was fine.

I showed them the other body in the kitchen, I saw the cops putting the yellow tape around as one of the paramedics led me outside to the ambulance.

I felt dizzy all of a sudden, I tried to shake it off but it didn’t work.
Black dot filled my vision and soon I was falling.

The sound of the clock ticking filled my ears as I opened my eyes. I blinked several times at the white ceiling before looking around me at the hospital room.

My eyes stopped moving when it landed on the last person I expected to see when I open my eyes.

“Mom?” my throat felt so dry.

“Chloe!”
She exclaimed standing up from her seat.

I gave her a dark look as she approached me, she stopped when she got the message.

“What are you doing here?”

“We saw the news, I had to see you. I was so worried, I know you hate me but please just give me another chance, I’m still your mother.”

“I don’t need your fake parental love. Just leave.”

“I love you, Chloe, I know what we did was wrong. We are sorry for hurting you, please forgive us.”
She started crying.

“I have not been able to forgive myself, I should have listened to you.”
I recalled that day, the way they all kicked me out of their lives, how they bought every lie Tristan said.

“Do you know how hard is it trying to be perfect? You don’t even know me, mom!”
I said holding my tears back.

“I’m so sorry, none of this would have happened if I believed you, you wouldn’t be in a hospital bed or be hiding your child from the world.”

“Kayden!”
I sat up recalling what happened last night.

“Where is he?”
I asked with a clenched jaw.

“The Sanchesters took him.”

“What?”
I mumbled trying to get down from the bed but she moved quickly and stopped me.

“He is fine, they took him with them to give him a bath and feed him.”
She said softly.

I nodded and sat back, her face was wet from her tears. I moved one hand up and wipe her tears away.

Maybe it was time to forget about what happened three years ago, I won’t keep the grudge forever, yes, they were all wrong for what they did to me but sometimes you need to forgive and leave the past behind.

I smiled at her, I still loved her, maybe not that much but she was my mother. She was trying to bring us up, the same way she was brought up but it didn’t work for me.

She put her arms around me apologizing non-stop.

“It’s fine, mom.”
I whispered hugging her back.

The door opened making us pull away from each other.

“Mom!”
Kayden screamed pulling his hand away from Nora’s grip, he ran to the bed and tried to climb but failed, he whimpered when his whole attempt failed.

Everyone in the room laughed, my mom helped him up. He crawled fast to my torso and wrapped his tiny hands around my neck.

“Hey, sweety.”
I put one arm around him and kissed his cheek.

“Miss me?”
I asked him as he snuggled closer to make himself comfortable. He nodded frantically.

“I missed you too.”
I whispered with a smile.

“Chloe.”
I turned to look at the Sanchesters, Nana avoided my eyes while Nora smiled at me.

“How are you feeling?”
Mrs. Sanchester asked stepping closer.

“Fine.”
I said in a monotone not looking at her.

“We are really sorry for….”

“It’s fine, ” I cut in tired of the apologies.
The more they apologized the more I think about what happened three years ago.

“How is Tristan?”
I asked and prepared myself for the reply.

“He is doing okay, he just woke up.”

“What about Morris?”
No one replied, they all looked sad.

“What happened?”

“He is in a critical state, he is under life support.”

“Did the police catch the suspect?”

“Sadly, no.”
My mom said.

“But I’m sure we’ll catch this monster.”
Nana said from the back. She gave me a sad smile.

“I need to see Tristan, what room is he?”

“Room 35.”
Nora replied quickly.

“I will stay with him.”
Nora came and took Kayden away, she gave him her phone when he started crying and tried to pull away.
He took it and stopped wriggling in her arms.

I came down gently, thank God I wasn’t wearing the hospital gown but the loosed trouser and top.

I left the room with no one paying attention to me, they were all trying to talk to Kayden.

I moved down the large hallway searching for room 35. It was four rooms away from mine.

I knocked lightly before opening the door, Tristan tilted his head to the side to look at me.

“Cassie.”
He smiled softly as I walked to the bed.

I sat on the seat next to the bed, he was naked from the waist up, his stomach was wrapped with a bandage and his upper arm was wrapped in a bandage too.

“How are you feeling?”

“Better now that I know everyone is alive.”

“Well, I warned you. You didn’t even make it to the kitchen.”
He chuckled softly.

“You think it’s funny? What if you got killed?” I asked almost yelling.

“But I’m alive.”

“Yeah, but what if you never…”

“Cassie, everyone is fine. That’s all that matters.”

“You wouldn’t have gotten a bullet if you just stayed.”

“It was still worth a try, now stop talking about it.”
He took my hand that was resting on the bed, his hand felt cold.

“You have no idea how I feel knowing you still care about me.”
He said not taking his eyes off my face.

“Well, you’re my son’s father, I can’t hate you forever.”
I said looking away from his piercing blue eyes.

“Right.”
He mumbled and let go of my hand.

“Thanks for giving me a chance.”

“To be a father again.”
He added as if he knew what was going on in my head.

“Why not since I already suck at parenting.”

“No, you don’t. You’ve been a great mother.”
I bit my smile back, we all knew that was a lie.

He tried adjusting on the bed but winced.

“Should I call for help?”
I panicked.

“No, just help me adjust the pillows.”

“Oh, okay.”
I stood up and leaned down to his body, I moved the pillows gently.

“Is it okay?”
I asked looking down at his face that was inches away from mine.

He was quiet and just stared at a spot on my temple, he moved his hand and traced a small cut I got from last night.

“I’m fine, Tristan.”
I said as I saw his jaw harden.

“Tristan.”
I called as he kept tracing the cut with his thumb and not saying anything.

“Tris….”

“You deserve to be happy, Cassie. I will never be a great guy. I returned and your life is already a mess, I tried so hard to stay away from you but I couldn’t.”

“Yeah, I know. I wished you and your family never returned.”
I said in utter honesty, he didn’t say anything for a while.

“Are you comfortable?” I asked moving the pillow a little to the middle.

“I never stopped loving you, I still love you, Cassie.”
He suddenly said.

I didn’t know what to say. My mouth opened and closed with no words leaving.

“It’s okay if you hate me, I deserve it.”
He brushed my baby hair back, his intense gaze was almost reaching my soul.

Why did he have to say that? I wasn’t ready neither was my heart.

His hand glided down to my neck, he pulled me slowly to his lips, just when our lips were about to touch, the door opened.

We both turned our heads to the direction of the door, Detective Emily and Detective Clooney smiled at us.

“Sorry, should we come back later?”
She asked.

“No, it’s fine.”
I said pulling away.

“Thank you.”
Detective Clooney said as they walked in.

“How are you feeling Mr. Sanchester?”

“Have you found the person behind this?”
Tristan said instead.

“We are still trying our best, we went through the CCTV in your house, it wasn’t that helpful since the person was wearing a mask and covered every part of his body.”

“Seriously, someone took my child and tried to kill us and you have no lead on this monster?”
I almost screamed.

“We are trying our best. Can you tell us exactly what happened last night, Miss Simpson?”

I nodded and gave them every detail.

“What about Ryan?”
I asked.

“Who is Ryan?” Tristan asked.

“It’s a long story, ” I said to him.

“We are still investigating, Ms. Simpson.”

They promised to keep digging before they left.

I left with them trying to avoid any awkward moment with Tristan.
