Episode 20

“Cynthia is there a problem? Kizza asked and she turned and saw her behind.
“No nothing aunty, how long did you stand there? Cynthia asked.

“Just now but I saw you distressed or something, is it about Mukasa? Has he arrived yet? Kizza asked.
“No not yet, I am just stressed out that’s all, she replied.

“Alright if you say so, I’ll go check the water I boiled to bath the baby. Can you please pick a dress I’ll wear her when I’m done? I actually came to tell you that, Kizza said.
“Alright aunty I will, thank you, Cynthia said and she left the room.

“Gosh that was close, She said and heaved………..

Christiana, Jendyose and Dembe arrived in the hospital and a nurse approached them,
“Where is the doctor? Where is he? Dembe asked.
“Ma’am I hope there’s no problem? The nurse asked.

“Of course there is, and where is he! Dembe shouted and the doctor came out, for he was about going out,
“Here is he, Christy pointed at him and Dembe went to him.

“What’s going on? He stood confused.
“Are you still asking? Where is her daughter? Why should you give her baby out without her knowledge! Dembe shouted and he bite his lips.

“Can we talk in the office please? He asked.
“Will that bring her out? Or are you scared the whole Hospital will get to know what you did huh! Dembe shouted.

“Can we talk inside or this will just be waste of time, he said and turned to leave and they followed him behind.
“So where is my granddaughter? Jendy asked after sitting down.

“Granddaughter? The doctor asked.
“Are you surprised? Now you can see I have people to take care of my daughter and I have a place to stay, so where is she? Christiana asked.

“I told you where she is right? Is not like I gave or sold her out to a stranger, he said.
“Without her consent, yes that may be true, Dembe said.

“You can ask the nurses around, Mukasa left with her this morning, he asked to take care of his daughter and he paid the bills of Christiana, he said.
“Does that still make sense? If he knows he’s the father of the child, why did he take her like a thief? Why didn’t he have a word with her mother and hear from her? Dembe asked.

“I don’t know, I told him same thing but he said Christiana is stubborn and won’t accept it, and he also said he doesn’t want the child to suffer that’s why he will go ahead to carry her so Christy will be relieved and her life will go back to normal.

You all have to believe me, Mukasa is with her and you can ask him yourself, he said.

“And how are we going to do that when he relocated this morning! Christiana shouted.

“Relocated? He never told me that, I was thinking he took the baby home knowing you will meet with him there so you two can talk things out. How will I know he had plans of relocating? I’m sorry, he said.

“That wont solve the problem now, what you did was unprofessional and you’re not fit to be a doctor! Dembe shouted.

“I know, but because I knew him and the way he assured me the baby will be safe with him, I looked at Christiana and saw she was homeless and not fit to take care of the child, i thought she will be saved with him. I did what i did only with the best intentions, please I’m sorry, the doctor said and Christiana was crying already.

“What are we going to do now? Do you have any idea where he might be? Jendy asked.
“No I don’t, he replied.

“But he is your friend! Christy shouted.
“Yes but I told you we had a fight that day you ran away and we haven’t talked or seen each other. He didn’t even invite me to his wedding and I cleaned his number off my phone, he replied.

“We are just wasting our time here, I’ll report this to the cops, Dembe said getting up.
“Please I’m sorry, I wish I can help you get him but I have no idea where they are, he said but Dembe left and Jendy held Christiana hands out.

The doctor heaved and made sure they left the hospital and he called up Mukasa,
“Hey how are you doing? He picked up.
“They just left the hospital, he said.

“Who? Mukasa asked.
“Christiana mom and a woman I don’t know, she came with her to get the baby but I told them I don’t know where you are. They want to report this to the police, he said.

“She went back to her mom? But then what will they do? The cops can’t do anything about this, Mukasa said.
“But you know you are wrong, he said.

“She is my daughter, what are you telling me? Mukasa asked.
“And she has a mother who deserves to know where her daughter is, I hand up in this Case and I hope I wont be involved in this anymore. Bye, the doctor said and dropped the call.

Mukasa shook his head and called up Kizza but heard the cry of the baby,
“Hello Mukasa where are you? She picked up.
“Yes aunt, I just arrived Kampala now, I’ll soon be home, he replied.

“That’s good news, Kizza said.
“Yea how is my wife? I tired calling her but her number is switched off, he said.

“Really? I have no idea but she’s at home and she’s doing good, she replied.
“Alright aunt I’ll call You back when I get home, bye aunt, he said.

“Bye, she said and the line went dead……..

Jendyose and Dembe sadly looked at Christiana who was crying outside and a Lady approached them.

“Sorry i heard what you said to the doctor, I think the baby you are asking of I took care of her and a man came this morning and took her away, she said.

“A man? Christiana asked.
“Her father, she replied and Christy rolled her eyes.

“I don’t think she was sold out, he was the same person who rushed you to the hospital. Can’t you find him anymore? She asked.

“Alright thanks, Christy let’s go, Dembe said and they left.
“Where to Now? Jendy asked.

“Let’s tell the cops about this, he can’t go far with a suckling baby and they may be caught, Dembe said.

“I pray they do something about this, I need to see my baby, Christiana said and Dembe held her.

“You will see her, let’s go, Dembe said and they left to the station.

“What’s his name? A cop asked after they complained.
“Mukasa, she replied.
“You said he relocated today with your daughter? A cop asked and she nodded.

“What kind of relationship do you have with him? A cop asked and Christy looked at Dembe.
“Is that even necessary? Dembe asked.

“Looks like she knows him and we will like to know who he is to her, a cop replied.
“But does it matter? He went away with her baby and finding him is more important, Jendy came in.

“If I may ask, who and where is the father of the baby? A cop asked and Dembe rolled her eyes.

“He is the one, now can you find my daughter? Christy said.

“He took his daughter, for Me I don’t see anything bad in that, a cop said and Dembe looked shocked.

“Really? You men are so useless! Dembe shouted and Jendy held her.

“Please sir, you don’t understand, I really need to see my daughter, how will you feel when you are in my shoes? Please help me sir, Christy said going on her knees.
“Alright, we will see what we can do about that, a cop said.
