CHAPTER 51

?YOU’RE THE BEST FRIEND EVER?

HENSHAW’S MANSION.

“HOOO!!!”

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, J!”

“HAPPY RETURNS!”

“CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW AGE!” Many compliments were thrown at Jay as he blew out the candles.

He gave them a cute smile and returned his gaze to the varieties of food and drinks on the table.

“Wow…there’s so much to eat,” he salivated.

“My mom doesn’t prepare a feast for me except on my birthdays. Now I have to look forward to this day every year just so I can have a taste of these yummy delicacies,” he joked while they all laughed.

“Jay dear…would you like some noodles instead? I bet that’ll be more tasty,” Annabelle said.

“No, Mom…I’ll pass,” he quickly said while Annabelle smiled, ruffling his hair. He held her hand, and Annabelle’s brow crooked.

“I’m not a kid. I’m an adult now.”

“An adult, I see…I really think you need some noodles,” she teased, drawing his ear while he winced.

“Come on, Mom…that hurts.”

“You should stop being hard on him at least for today. It’s his day,” Ray said, while Jay winked at him.

“Tell him to know his place, or I won’t hesitate to put him there,” Annabel retorted.

“My amiable son…here for you,” Liam extended a small box to him.

“Come on, Dad…this has no weight.”

“Don’t be ungrateful and accept it. You said you’re an adult now…do adults grumble? What a weird adult you are,” Zara said, stifling a laugh.

“Because I’m an adult, I’m gonna let you get away with it, but not on another day, alright, little witch,” Jay replied, opening the box.

“Oh my gosh!” He swallowed the remaining word when Scarlet gave him a look.

“Dad! You’re the best…I love you so much,” he ran to his side, hugging him tightly.

“It was your mom’s idea.”

“Really…Mommy…you know I love you, right? More than I love your noodles.”

“Yeah, son, of course I know.”

Jay chuckled, looking at the car keys.

Others also gave him their different gifts, and he couldn’t stop whining like a baby as he received them.

“Kim…won’t you give him your gift?” Scarlet, her mom asked.

“I didn’t prepare any,” she replied with a straight face.

Everyone seemed surprised to hear that from her except Jay.

“Sorry, Jay…I didn’t get you any gift,” she said to him.

“It’s okay…I don’t need one anyway,” Jay replied nonchalantly, picking up the spoon.

He started scooping the food into his mouth.

Kim also focused on her food, not saying anything.

Their parents exchanged glances.

“Um…Kim, dear, as Dad promised, your eighteenth birthday is going to be extravagant,” Ray grinned.

“No, Dad…I don’t want a big party. Let’s just celebrate among ourselves,” she replied.

“But that wasn’t the plan.”

“Now it is…I don’t want a party, Dad. It’s a hassle,” she rolled her eyes.

“We have to talk more about this.”

“I’m not saying more than this. Excuse me, I’m going to use the restroom,” she stood and excused herself while all eyes followed her.

As soon as she disappeared upstairs, all eyes turned to Jay, who was busy eating.

“What?” He said with a mouthful of meatloaf.

“What’s happening with Kim? And what’s wrong with the two of you?” Scarlet inquired.

“I wouldn’t know,” he shrugged and returned to his meal.

For several days, Kim did everything she could to avoid running into Jay. Even if they happened to cross paths by chance, she always evaded him and spent more time with Diego instead.

Onda wasn’t left out either. Ever since the incident with Jade, she had stopped talking to him and purposely stayed out of his sight.

She was always with Kim, Agnes, or engrossed in reading at the library to prevent any encounters. This arrangement had been working well for them for a few days now.
