Chapter Four
GRACE POV
“Really?”.One of the girls scoffed,pushing away some strips of her dark hair away from her face.
She was putting on a yellow dress that didn’t even reach her knee. A red lipstick was rubbed on her lips and a blusher on her cheeks which made her cheeks look so pink though I was surprised.
This school allows makeup-ing? In Nigeria,the school I attended doesn’t allow that.
“Really what?”.Jeanann asked sounding upset with the question the girl asked.
“Nothing”.The girl scowled and turn back to her food which was set in a bowl.
“If you say nothing,it means something. So what is it Harper?”.Jeanann asked curiously but another girl chipped in.
“You didn’t tell us you were gonna bring some lowlife girl to join our company, Jean”.The girl who chipped in said hissing loudly.
I fumed in anger at the word ‘lowlife’ but being the good girl I was, I tried to stay calm.
“Don’t call her that Sophia, I was only introducing her to you guys as my seatmate”.Jeanann now sounded angry.
“When last did you invite a seatmate of yours to our table? When last did you even had a seatmate?”.Another girl with a dyed pinkish hair spoke up glaring at me.
Seems this school has no rules, a student dyes hairs?
“Shut the trap up Allison, you guys are taking this too far”.Jeanann snapped and I immediately cut in. I don’t want them to fight because of me.
“It’s okay Ann, I will go find a seat elsewhere”.I didn’t know whether to address her as Jean or Ann, it’s so confusing.
“No Grace, you can sit here with us”.Jeanann quickly added.
“He.ll no! Her rotted butt wouldn’t sit with us”.Sophia rasped and Jeanann glared at her.
I sighed and turn around using my eyes to search for a seat and luckily as if God heard my prayers, I found Dave sitting on a seat alone with three empty chairs left around him.
“Um…Jean, I will be going now”.I said and walked away before she could stop me. I got to Dave’s table and immediately he saw me,he smiled.
“Hey Dave, how was class?”.I asked after I sat my butt down on one of the chairs around his table.
“It wasn’t fine, so boring”.He frowned silently and picked up a fry from its bowl before delivering it into his mouth. It looked yummy though.
I found my hand running towards the bowl and when I was about grabbing one of the fries, he slapped my hands away.
“Ouch!”.I whined as I rubbed the area he hit me.
“What were you trying to do, thief?”.He chuckled and place another fry in his mouth,m©aning out loud as he chewed it. What a devil!
“Please give me some Dave”.I pleaded and he chuckled again before handing me one fry.
“Wait. Hold on! Just one fry?”.I frowned as I glared at the fry he was giving to me.
“Oh! What did you expect? Five or the whole fries? You must be kidding! So,do you want to accept this or not?”.He said and I sluggishly took the fry from him.
“Lu¢ifer”.I muttered as I took the fry into my mouth,enjoying its taste.
“Hey! I heard that, thief”.He said and I rolled my eyes. Whatever!
“My class, Grade 11, it sucks real bad Grace. When I got into the class, all eyes were on me. All the students were staring at me, mostly the girls I think but no one talked to me well except a girl who smiled at me but still that isn’t talking, is it?”.He said sadly.
“Why didn’t you talk to anybody? Maybe if you had done that, someone would have talked to you”.I said and he smiled widely.
“You think that would work?”.He asked and I nodded.
“Of course it will and I think you should talk to the girl who smiled at you. Who knows, she night be interested in talking to you”.I said and he nodded.
“You are right Grace. Do you know that this is the most sensible thing you have ever spoken?”.He said and I glared at him.
“Don’t be so ridiculous”.I said and he laughed.
“What happened when you walk into your class? Have you gotten any friend yet?”.He asked and I shrugged.
“Well, I think I made one, her name is Jeanann but her friends don’t like me. They even indirectly chased me out of their table”.I made a sad smile and Dave fisted his fists in anger.
“Really? They chased you out?”.He was clearly angry and seems like he was ready to bounce on them.
“They didn’t,okay? They did indirectly though but please just forget about that besides I think she would not like me anymore cause her friends might persuade her to dislike me. That happens, right?”.I asked sighing.
“Yeah, that happens. You like someone and your friend who dislike the person you like can influence you into disliking the person who you once liked”.He stated and handed me another fry.
“Thanks Lucifer”.I rolled my eyes.
“You are welcome thief”.He said and soon enough, we both bursted into a round of laughter.

School finally closed for the day and I arranged my books into my backpack ready to leave the class but Jeanann blocked my way.
“Grace,am so sorry,okay?”.She have been apologizing to me non stop since I came to class after lunch break about what her friends said when she brought me to their table.I had told her it was okay but she won’t stop apologizing.
“It’s okay Jean, I forgive your friends for whatever rubbish they said”.I said quite uninterested in the matter.
“Really? You forgive them? But what about me? Hope you forgave me too?”.She said,her eyes growing dull.
“Yes, I forgive you too though I don’t see what to forgive you for because it was clearly not your fault”.I shrugs and she smiled.
“Thank you so much Gr….”.One of her friends,Allison came into view interrupting our conversation.
“We should get going Jane, your driver is here and you know mine isn’t coming to pick me up”.She groaned looking angry.
“Just give me some seconds All….”.
“Just keep your mouth close Jane, I don’t see any reason why you should talk to her”.She spat out.
“Fine! Let’s get going”.Jeanann frowned and began walking away with the angry looking Allison but suddenly, she turned back to me and waved.
“Bye Grace, see you tomorrow”.With that said, she went out of sight.
I smiled a little and hung my backpack on my shoulders before walking out of the class but I stopped when my gaze dropped on the guy whose head was bent on his desk when I walked into the class for the first time.
He was now parking his books into his backpack but he was backing me, I couldn’t see his face.
Gosh! I wanted to say ‘hi’ to him for some unknown reasons but I rejected the idea and walked out of the classroom.

It took me ten minutes to walk out of the school to the parking lot and there, I met Dave standing with his legs crossed.
The place was crowded, students were going in and out of their cars and those who weren’t doing that were standing, walking or chit chatting with their friends.
“Hi Dave”.I said and his face turned towards my direction. I was now close to him.
“What took you so long,Grace?”.He asked but didn’t give me a chance to answer,he spoke again.
“Have been waiting so long for dad to come take us home but I haven’t seen him or any of his cars yet”.He said roaming his eyes around. I almost chuckled.
“Well, dad told me he won’t come pick us up,he will send a man who I guess to be our new driver to come pick us up in his white Benz car”.
“Really? When did he tell you that?”.
“When Mary was taking us to our classrooms, remember I stopped walking and that was because dad called me back”.
“Oh!”.He smiled. “I think I saw a white Benz car that looks like dad’s but I didn’t check it out too much”.
“Then what are we waiting for here?”.I asked and we both hurried to the white Benz car Dave saw and surprisedly, it was exactly like dad’s.
A man with pale blue eyes,brown hair and an oval face was sitter on the car. He was putting on a dark blue shirt and jeans pant.
“Hi, how can I help you?”.He was confused seeing us.
“Uh. Well,am David and this is my younger sister Grace. We were kind of wondering if you were the new driver taking us home”.Dave said and the man eyes sparked in realization.
“Oh! Please take a seat in the car”.He said and I and Dave went to the backseat.
“My name is Lucas, your dad, Mr Uchenna sent me to go pick you guys, David and Grace from school. You must be the kids”.He said and Dave and I nodded.
The driver, Mr Lucas smiled and began driving. I took out time to stare at the streets through the car window while Dave kept plating his favorite game in his phone named ‘Country Terrorists’.I don’t know why he likes the game, it’s so boring.
Few minutes later, the car pulled to a stop in our house and I and Dave stepped out of the car,taking our backpacks with us.
“Bye David and Grace”.The driver said as soon as we were out of the car.
“Mr Lucas, you can just call me Dave”.Dave said and Mr Lucas nodded.
“Okay Dave. Bye!”.
“Bye”.I and Dave said and he smiled before driving the car away.
