Chapter Eight
GRACE POV
As soon as the school bell rang, I kept my books into my backpack and then hung my backpack on my shoulder. Well, I decided not to join any club, I prefer being club less than joining one which might stress me and make me get an attack again.
I glanced around the classroom and realized their was six persons left in the class – Me, three girls and two boys including the person who I feared, Dylan.
I gulped in nothing and stepped out of the classroom but as soon as I was out, I heard my name.
“Hey, Grace!”.It was Kyree. His hands were tucked into his pant pockets and he held a smirk on his lips.
We had talked a lot in the cafeteria, so much that we didn’t hear the bell ring. It was one of the workers in the cafeteria who had informed us and we both felt embarrassed, realizing we were the only students remaining in the cafeteria.
Besides, I enjoyed his company. He is really nice and I won’t stop myself from calling him a gentleman, he do deserve the title.
HER ADVERSITY: Chapter 1 – 10
When the cake I bought got exhausted, he had used his money to buy another even after I refused. He is so nice!
“Kyree?”.I said, quite surprised to see him, he looks like he was waiting for me.
“Hmm Grace, I wanted to go to the parking lot with you”.He said, his smile going wider.
“Really? With me?”.I asked and he chuckled, knowing I was joking.
“Come on! Let’s get going, you don’t wanna keep your driver waiting, right?”.He said and I nodded before we both began walking.
“Kyree?”.I called and he stared at me.
“What?”
“Do you have any idea why Jane didn’t come to school today? You are her boyfriend so you must know, she must have informed you”.I said and he shrugged.
“I didn’t even know she was not in school today”.He said and I laughed, turning to him.
“You must be joking. Your girlfriend is not in school and you are not aware, you didn’t even see her today and you never cared to ask her friends about her whereabouts, are you for real?”.My laughter subsided.
“I do notice if she is absent or presence in school but today was just different maybe…”.He glanced deeply at my eyes as if he’s searching for something which he couldn’t see. “Maybe I didn’t notice because you filled in her space”.
“I don’t get you!”.I was confused.
“I mean….”.He was cut off by Dave who approached me. Oh! We were in the parking lot now, I didn’t even realize.
“Grace, you are always late”.Dave said and Kyree turned to me. He have been staring at Dave since Dave approached me.
“Who is he?”.Kyree whispered to me but when I was about answering his question, he cut me off.
“Am so disappointed, you never told me you had a boyfriend”. His tone changed a bit but I shrug it off with a scoff.
“No, he is my brother”.I whispered back to him and smiled at Dave who was watching our quiet conversation.
“Who is he, Grace?”.Dave asked audibly, his glance on Kyree.
“Am K….”.Dave cut him off.
“As far as I can remember, the question was directed to her not to you or I guess your name must be Grace”.Dave said frowning.
“You don’t have to talk that way dude, I was just…”.Dave didn’t let him complete his words, he turned to me.
“Who is he, Grace?”.He repeated his question and I sighed.
Dave might be playful, cheerful but damn, you don’t want to see him angry. His anger is like ten bombs which wouldn’t hesitate to explode if you triggers it. The thing that is annoying about him is his over protectiveness, he hates it when guys come closer to me or when someone hurts me. He might act calm but deep inside….he is fuming in anger.
“He…his name is Kyree, um he is Jeanann’s friend and we met yesterday, he wanted to keep me company since Jeanann was not around and well, uh I allowed him”.I vomited the words I could say at that moment.
Go$h! If I had said that Kyree was Jeanann’s boyfriend, he would have never let me set my eyes on Kyree ever again. He actually hates the girlfriend and boyfriend relationship, he says it’s not for teens. Darn it! He is just like dad, always following the Africa’s rule.
“Get inside the car, Grace!”.He ordered and I knew better than to disobey him. I got inside the white car and I greeted Mr Lucas before breathing out heavily, thereafter Dave got into the car and I turned to him.
“You shouldn’t have done that, Dave. That wasn’t necessary”.I was angry.
Like what the heck! He just embarrassed me in front of Kyree…someone that have been so nice to me.
“I just don’t like him, Grace!”.He snarled.
“I just don’t like him”.
