Just The Beginning ?
Episode thirty two
Alex
” Maya, ” vee mumbles in her sleep and that wakes me up.
” Shhh, ” I say stroking her cheek. ” Maya is fine, Go back to sleep now. ”
Her face is kind of disturbed and her breathing is fast. Am sure that she’s having another night mare and so I hold her closer kssing her forehead and surprisingly my heart beat picked up a little bit just by the feel of her skin on my lips, and my body gets all excited.
I look over my shoulder to look at the alarm on the night stand and it’s a minute past five in the morning. I look back at vee who’s sleeping peacefully now, her hand around my torso and I just can’t I but smile.
I wasn’t planning on spending the night with her but I guess I was kind of tired to and ended up dozing off but am not complaining. Tonight has been by far the best I’ve slept in a while.
I find myself watching vee as she sleeps and listening to her breathing, which is back to normal now. I observe her for a while, studying her face. She’s looks very pretty even when sleeping and is making this cute snoring sounds that make me smile every time.
One thing that I’ve come to know about vee is that she’s got the eyes of innocence, the face of an angel and a smile that hides more pain than you can ever imagine.
She tries to hide her pain in her strong character, something I learnt the other day when I made her cry. I’ve always seen her as bold and strong and sincerely speaking, seen tears in her eyes that day tore my heart a little.
I saw a vulnerable side of her and that made me understand her a little better.I was a jerk for judging her unjustly and I feel like life’s giving me a chance to make up for all the wrong I did to her. A chance which am gladly taking.
I have this crazy urge to protect her now especially after what happened with Mike. Seeing her lying in his bed uncouncious, looking helpless made my insides boil with rage. That crazy guy would be dead by now if it wasn’t for Nick, after the beating I gave him.
I still can’t believe he had the guts to do that to her, especially now that she’s already stressed out over her sister. I never liked him much but I still never thought that he’d stoop this low, just to have her.
I was stupid to think that she was using Ava to get to me. The fact that she took her in and protected her should have been enough for me to see the real her but I just had to mess up! Am surely going to pay back the favour by protecting her and her sister. Am going to show her that am not the rude arrogant guy she thinks I am, mostly for Ava.
I can tell that Ava is in love with the two sisters even after knowing them for a few weeks and why wouldn’t she be, after Maya literally took a bullet for her.
It’s now almost six thirty and I slowly get off the bed so as not to wake up Vee. I’d have loved to miss work today but I can’t since I’ve been absent for the past two days.
In twenty minutes am already showered and just when am getting dressed, my phone rings.
It’s mum.
Am sure she’s calling to scold me.
” Hi mum, morning.”
” Morning Alex.what happened? Why haven’t you been to work and why didn’t you tell that you are already back to your apartment? Is everything okay? ” she starts bombarding me with questions.
” Mum, calm down.I only wanted to make sure that Ava is settled and fine after what she went through. ”
” Has she told you what happened yet and where she was? ”
” Yes mum, she told me everything. ”
” Really? What did she tell you, ” she asks curiously.
” I can’t tell you everything right now mum, am busy getting ready for work. I promise to pass by later. ”
” Okay, and I hope you won’t neglect the company anymore. Your sister is a big girl and can take if herself. ”
” Okay mum. I have to go now, ” I say hanging up
I can’t believe that she’s still holding a grudge against Ava. she didn’t even ask how she was doing! I really have to find a way to bring those two closer, something I should have done a long time ago.
There’s a knock on the door and Ava walks in.
” Morning bro, how was your night? ” she asks with a naughty smile.
” My night was great, thanks. ”
She wink. ” I bet it was. ”
I can tell she’s on to something but I don’t want to know what, right now.
” What time did you get back from the hospital? “I didn’t hear you come in. ”
” How could you when you were busy, in dreamland with vee in your arms. You two looked so good together that i just had to take a pic. ”
” What? Why would you do that? ” I ask shaking my head. :
” Well, I want to show it to Maya once she recovers. Believe me she’ll love this. ”
” So, she also as crazy as you are, huh?”
” Yeah she’s is but also very sweet, ” she say sad smile plastered on her lips. ” I really miss her. ”
” Don’t be sad, ” I pull her in a hug.” Am sure she’ll be fine. ”
” I know, anyway, I came to get you guys for breakfast. I figured you’d be hungry since you slept on an empty stomach. ”
” You figured right. Am crazy hungry and I bet vee is to but we can’t wake her up, ” I say leading her out of the room.
I take one last glimpse at vee before leaving and she’s still sound asleep on my bed
I find myself wishing that she’d stay there forever but instantly, face palm myself at the silly thought.
What’s wrong with me? I must be loosing it!
Downstairs, the kitchen smells like heaven. Ava has already set the table and my mouth is watering just by the aroma.
” I really missed you, ” I say taking a seat ready to devour my breakfast. ” I just don’t know how I ever survived without you. ”
” I know, right? ” She says all smiles. ” Anyway, how’s vee doing? ”
” Am not sure. Yesterday she had this crazy night mare and was really shaken. It’s not going to be easy for her to get over what happened. ”
” I know but I’ll help her any way I can. ”
” We both will, ” I say giving her a reassuring smile. ”
We have breakfast with her telling me more about how she met Maya and Vee.
” That is quite an interesting story and am glad you met them. I really love how happy you look when talking about them. You have this cute glow an am kind of jealous. ”
” Don’t be silly. You know I’ll always love you. ”
” Good! ” I say getting up. ” I have to go. ”
” But it’s still kind of early. ”
” I know but i have to talk to George before I head to the office. I need his help to make sure that Mike rots in prison. ”
” Does he already know what happened to Vee?”
” Not yet but am planning on telling him. ”
” Okay, see you later then. ”
” Later, ” I say walking out.
I really did miss having her around and now that I found her the only thing left is Stacy. She’s the only problem in my life right now and i wish i could just squeeze her like the bug she is.
I arrive at George’s place and am surprised when Merghan opens the door for me.
What’s she doing here this early?
” Hi Alex, come in. ”
” Hi Merghan. I didn’t know you moved in with George. ”
” I wish, ” she says with a smile. ” Would you like some coffee? ”
” No am good. Where’s George?”
“He’s in the shower. ”
” Okay, ” I say walking to his bedroom.
I find him getting dressed.
” What’s going on here? ”
” Good morning to you to Alex! ”
” What’s Merghan doing here? Did she spend the night with you? ”
” What’s with the questions men! Are you jealous or something? ”
” Am asking because I thought you were serious about vee. Just the other day, you told me you were going to pursue her again. ”
” And I still am.”
” So you are planning on courting vee while still with Merghan? That’s fked up! ”
” I am a man Alex, and I have needs. ”
” Oh really? So you are going with that? ” I ask and he looks me with furrowed eyebrows.
” What’s gotten into you today? ”
” Am just trying to help you out here. ”
” Don’t worry about me. The moment vee accepts me, Merghan will be nothing more than a memory. You know i really like Vee.”
” Am not sure about that anymore, anyways, I have to go. I’ll talk to you later, ” I say turning to leave.
” Wait, ” he says making me look over my shoulder. You didn’t tell me what brought you here. ”
” Nothing important, ” I say walking out.”
