CHAPTER 32

Eli let’s have a drink” Jemma said as she broke the hug and wiped her tears off.

“Mum you’re in no state to have a drink. I’m pretty sure, something’s wrong. You don’t usually shed tears”

“Eli the only way for me to suppress this pain I’m feeling right now, is having a can of beer.

Won’t you accompany me? It’s no fun drinking alone” Jemma said looking at Eli.

“OK fine, but just a can. I will go get it” Eli said and stood up then left for the kitchen.

He came back to Jemma’s room with two cans of beer.

“Thank you son” Jemma smiled as she took one of the cans.

“Mum whenever you sob secretly in your room, something definitely goes wrong the next day. I think seeing you sobbing means you’re making up your mind on something very critical” Eli said and Jemma smirked.

“Son is it wrong for me to make up for my past mistakes? Will it be impulsive of me to seek for happiness else where” Jemma uttered as tears roll down her cheeks.

“Come on Mum, you can’t be acting like this in front of me. I’m your child for goodness sake.

Don’t you think I feel hurt watching you like this? Who’s he by the way? Does he really deserve this tears of yours?” Eli asked getting pissed and Jemma gulped down some sip of her beer.

“He’s someone from the past who we parted ways in a cruel way. I would say I’m partially responsible for everything that happened.

But don’t take it the wrong way okay, because I’m definitely not talking about your Dad” Jemma pointed out.

“Your ex from the past. Grandpa said he wanted you to get married to him, he was the perfect groom for you but you got married to Dad instead.

Do you regret making that decision?” Eli asked staring at Jemma and she kept mute for a while.

“I don’t regret getting married to Caleb, we might have not had the most happy married life but it was bearable and I was content because I’ve got lovely and beautiful kids all thanks to him and there’s no way I will regret having you guys.

I only regret allowing Caleb into my world. I guess we should never turn a blind eye to elders suggestions on our marriage” Jemma said with a half smile as tears roll down.

“If you still love him, why are you holding yourself back? Crying your eyes out.

Mum no one can make you happy except you accept to be happy but is he married now?” Eli asked concerned.

“His wife is late but he has a daughter now. He said he doesn’t think things will work out for us.

Eli do you think something’s wrong with me and he had a change of heart” Jemma sobbed and Eli stood up, picked up the box of wipes from the table and brought it to Jemma.

“How lovely would it have been if you shedded tears just to get Dad back.

You must really love him a lot” Eli said in low tone then gulped down some sip of his beer

“I’m sorry Eli. I shouldn’t be acting this way in front of you.

He’s someone who never betrayed me and just like your grandpa said, he was the perfect groom for me.

I shouldn’t be sobbing because of some other man in front of you as well but this is a wish, I’ve made all my life and it’s finally coming to pass but… ” Jemma said and boost into more tears.

Eli drew out more wipes and gave to Jemma.

“Mum, he must have his reasons for saying that to you. Men get prideful while contemplating on decisions so it will be best if you find out, why he said those things to you. Mum you’ve come too far to give up.

This is another chance for you to find happiness” Eli said calmly and Jemma hugged him.

“I’m sorry son” Jemma sobbed and Eli pat her back.

“It’s okay mum”

Eli’s phone started ringing. It’s a call from Ruby.

“Why’s she calling me” Eli uttered after breaking the hug.

“Go ahead son, I will go freshen up” Jemma sniffed then left for the bathroom.

Eli took the call and stood up from the floor.

“Yes Ruby, why are you calling?” Eli asked over the phone.

“Eli, Dad wants you to join us for dinner” Ruby said with a smile.

“What? Who?” Eli asked in shock.

“My Dad. I told him about my sleepover at your place and he wants to treat you to dinner as an appreciate” Ruby said and Eli started coughing.

“Eli are you okay?” Jemma asked from the changing room.

“I’m fine mum” Eli said and went out of the room.

“Ruby, I don’t think I will be able to make it to your place. I think I caught a cold” Eli lied as he faked a down voice.

“Eli that’s rude. You’re bluntly rejecting an elder’s request” Ruby nagged.

“Ruby we’re just friends. What’s the visitations for? I really don’t want your dad to misunderstand our friendship.

Parents don’t normally invite friends over until they become suspicious” Eli complained.

“I think you’re taking things too far. There’s no way, my dad will have a thought like that. He knows we’re just friends. So you’re coming right?” Ruby asked with a smile.

“Emm….” Eli hesitated.

“We will be looking forward to your visit Eli” Weston said from the background and cold sweat popped out in Eli’s forehead.

“Bye Eli” Ruby said and hung up.

Eli lost his balance and leaned on the wall for support.

“How did I drag myself into this mess? Now I see why people say, avoid daddy’s girl” Eli uttered as he catches his breathe.

HOURS LATER….

Eli was done getting ready to leave for Ruby’s.
He was putting on some nice jeans and turtle neck shirt with a winter jacket on it.

“I can’t look anymore stunning” Eli smiled as he winked at himself next to the mirror.

WESTON’S BUILDING**

An hour later… It was absolute quietness as Weston fixed his eyes on Eli.

“What’s your relationship with my daughter again?” Weston asked strictly and Ruby pinched him.

“Ruby it’s not a personal question, is it”Weston asked sarcastically.

“Ruby and I are just friends” Eli answered.

“Do you have feelings for my daughter or do you plan on developing feelings for her in the nearest future? Ruby this question goes for you as well” Weston asked with a blank expression.

“Dad”
