“Hmm! That’s a rather touching story” Inspector Kole replied sarcastically when Franklin was done narrating his story. So why did you choose to strike now after all these years?”he asked, “strike now?” Franklin repeated, “I didn’t strike, it wasn’t me, I don’t know who killed him” Franklin replied, “it’s going to take a lot to convince me that you didn’t” Inspector Kole replied, “you have to believe me” Franklin replied, “I admit I had been nursing the thought for a long time since they got married, but I didn’t do anything about it, I only made sure I was there to give him wrong advice that would make his marriage miserable; I advised him to sleep around or get a concubine when Lara didn’t conceive on time” he confessed, “I even told him to send her packing once but he never listened to me, he really loved her and it was obvious.
Even when family asked him to leave her, he refused and stood by her till finally she was pregnant with Jojo. Jeff never took my advise seriously, he hated my lifestyle and the way I changed women like they were going out of fashion, he always frowned upon it without knowing he played a major role in my current lifestyle by marrying the love of my life, although part of the reasons I had so many women was because I couldn’t maintain a relationship with any one of them because of my premature ejaculation problem.” Franklin explained,“I’ll ask you one more time, why did you finally attempt to murder him?” Inspector Kole asked, “Inspector, I didn’t kill him” Franklin insisted, “at least you claim to have overheard my phone conversation, I had planned his death and hired someone to make it look like an accident but the person tried and failed and I stopped trying after that.” Franklin explained, “I even asked for a refund of my money because I didn’t want the job done anymore, you only heard me talk about it on the phone because I thought he still went ahead to carry the task out without my permission.
I was only calling to find out.” Franklin replied.“I’ll ask you for the last time” Inspector Kole repeated getting impatient, “why did you hire someone to murder Mr. Balogun?If you don’t answer the question this time, I’ll make sure I take you right back to the cell and lock you up till you’re ready to talk” he threatened.“Ok, I’ll explain. The truth is that after Lara gave birth to Jojo, I knew all hopes of ever getting her back had been dashed; besides she was never comfortable with my friendship with Jeff, she felt I was a bad influence; she was always insecure about the possibility that I might tell Jeff one day about our past together, her insecurity must’ve translated to hate for me because she has been cold to me even till now.” Franklin explained, “Because of that, I had concluded within myself that I was fighting a loosing battle and stopped plotting Jeff’s murder a long time ago.It was only recently after I met Lara’s younger sister, Lola that the thoughts of getting rid of Jeff started coming to mind again. Lola only recently started living with Jeff and Lara about a year ago after the death of their parents, I’d never met her before then since my visits to the house had stopped almost immediately after Jojo was born; Jeff and I usually metat the office or at a restaurant most times.
I fell in love with Lola the first day I met her at the club, she was like a replica of Lara but even with better physical features, I felt like I had found my missing rib. I did everything possible to try to get with her but she rejected my advances, I even resumed my visits to the house just to see her more often.
I was still nursing fantasies about her in my mind only for Jeff to tell me one day that he had been sleeping with her too. I can’t even begin to explain the rage I felt when he told me those words, it was like history repeating itself all over again.
