Knock! Knock! Knock!“Who’s there?” Aunty Fanny shouted, “it’s me Lara!” she replied from behind the door, “wow! You’re here already?” Aunty Fanny screamed from behind the door, Lola had only sent the email earlier that morning after she had identified the body and confirmed it to be Jeff’s, Aunty Fanny had hoped Lara would have seen it at least by the end of the day at the latest and arrived by the next day, she was surprised she had arrived by evening that same day.
She wasn’t sure whether to be happy about her immediate arrival or sad as she hadn’t thought of how she was going to break the news to Lola yet.“How did you get here so fast?” She asked when she opened the door, “Nice to see you too, Aunty” Lara replied sarcastically, “I was really hoping I’d get a welcome hug and not a welcome interrogation” she replied, giving Aunty Fanny a hug, “oh!common!” aren’t I giving you one now?” Aunty Fanny replied patting Lara’s back, “I just didn’t expect you’d get here so soon.” “It’s approximately a 5 hour flight down here Aunty” Lara replied, “I was just about to leave my hotel room for a meeting when I got Lola’s mail, it came in at the perfect time; if it had come in a few minutes later, I may not have seen it until evening when I returned to use the wifi at the hotel” Lara explained, “so you rushed down here immediately?” Aunty Fanny asked, “of course! I paid a fortune to adjust my ticket date just to be on the next flight down here.
Lola’s mail sounded really urgent so this better not be a prank” she said looking suspiciously at Aunty Fanny, she couldn’t understand why she was still being questioned by the door when she should be sitting down having a cup of coffee or something. Aunty Fanny on the other hand wasn’t prepared to break the news, she was caught unawares by Lara’s arrival, she didn’t realise she had kept her for so long at the door asking irrelevant questions until Lola joined them, “you’re here?” Lola said looking surprised and rushing towards the door to welcome her, “I didn’t think you’d make it so soon” she said helping with Lara’s luggage, “what is up with you two?” Lara asked, she was tired of having to explain herself, “Kenya is not Australia, you know?” she said rolling her eyes, “stop sounding like that” Lola said giving her a playful punch, “we just weren’t expecting you so soon.” “Would you care for something to eat?” She offered, “something to eat?” Lara asked looking confused, “I didn’t go through the stress of changing my tickets just to be here this evening to eat something, I could’ve done that at my hotel in Kenya” she replied sarcastically, “where’s Jeff? Lola said he was here” she said, “Why are you keeping him here instead of taking him to see a doctor?”, “ehm!” Lola stammered, “we thought it’d be best for him…actually, we didn’t have enough money to take him to the hospital”she lied, “but you knew I would come, you should still have taken him” Lara shouted, “I won’t forgive any of you if anything happens to him” she said running upstairs to the guest room where she thought Jeff would be.“Where is she going?” Aunty Fanny asked looking at Lola, “we better let her know now, we can’t afford to keep beating around the bush”“Lara we need to talk” Lola called out chasing behind her, “where’s Jeff?” she asked, when she busted into the guests room to see Jojo sleeping soundly on the bed instead of Jeff who she had hoped to see, “that’s what I was trying to tell you” Lola replied, Aunty Fanny joined them just in time.“Please let’s go outside, I’d hate to wake Jojo up” Lola said dragging Lara out of the room and shutting the door gently behind them, “Lara we need to talk” Aunty Fanny said, “About what?” Lara asked, come over here and sit” she replied motioning to Lola to sit down on the chair in the corridor, “I really don’t feel like sitting.
