Chapter 65

“Martin,” the lady called as she slowly opened her eyes, and Martin quickly rushed towards her.

“Mum,” he called, smiling, and the lady smiled, touched by the young man’s presence.

She really loved the young man so much and always wished for her daughter to get married to him.

She liked him at first sight when Evelyn brought him home, and her dad was not around at the time.

“What are you doing here?” the lady asked, and Martin sighed.

“Was Evelyn here?” he asked, and the woman scoffed.

“No, Eve is not here. Anything the matter?” Mrs. Jackson asked, and Martin shook his head negatively before sitting down beside the woman.

“Are you guys back together?” she asked, and Martin nodded.

“Oh my gosh! I am so damn happy you guys are back together,” the woman said happily, and Martin chuckled.

“Hmmm, Evelyn was never here?” he asked again, and the woman frowned.

“She really didn’t show up here. Anything the matter?” the lady asked again.

He really didn’t want to tell her, but maybe she might know where Evelyn is and tell him about her father.

“Evelyn said she was coming to visit you. I told her I was coming with her, but she went without me.

But now she is not here,” Martin explained, and the old woman sighed.

“She probably went to visit her father and didn’t want you to know about it.”

“Why?”

“Maybe because she is scared of losing you. I have told her several times to open up to you, but she seems to be really scared of losing you,” Mrs. Jackson said, and Martin sighed. He was really not understanding anything.

“He is a prisoner,” she said, tears gathering in the woman’s eyes already, and Martin’s eyes widened.

“He was accused of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Maybe Evelyn was scared you were gonna leave her if she tells you she is the daughter of a ¢riminal, and that’s the reason she didn’t tell you,” she said, tears flowing down from her eyes, and Martin hugged her gently.

“You know, when the judgment was made by that corrupt judge, I felt my blood drain.

He was forced to admit that he committed the crime so the case would be closed, and he did that to protect his children.

He was a great father and husband to his family, and we all miss his warmth,” Mrs. Jackson said, crying, and Martin sighed, still hugging her.

“It’s okay, Mom… Where can I see Evelyn?” he asked, and the woman sighed.

“Lightward Prison…”

(Lightward Prison)

“Mr. Jackson, someone is here to see you,” a police officer said as he pushed Mr. Jackson out of the ward.

He was taken to a room, and his eyes widened in surprise when he saw his precious daughter sitting down on the chair.

“Dad,” Evelyn called in tears and rushed towards her father, hugging him tightly, but he couldn’t reciprocate due to the handcuffs on his hand.

Tears were flowing out of their both eyes already.

“Sweetheart, you came,” he said as they distinguished from the hug, and they both sat down together.

“I was missing you badly, so I came to see you,” Evelyn said, and the man smiled, tears pouring out of his eyes.

It was tears of joy and at the same time tears of sadness.

He was happy seeing his daughter once again, but he was sad that he wouldn’t be able to see his daughter every day.

“Dad, please stop crying,” she said softly, wiping the man’s tears.

“Where is Ava… I’m sure she is a grown-up girl already,” he said, and Evelyn nodded, wiping the traces of tears seen in her eyes.

“Yeah… she is a very intelligent girl.”

“What about your mom?” he asked sadly, and Evelyn sighed.

“Mom is fine. How have you been faring?”

“Well, good. Since I get to watch TV, play basketball, at least it is fun,” Mr. Jackson said, and Evelyn smiled.
