Episode 74

The next morning, I prepared Axel for school and dropped him off before heading to the office.

Thank goodness I’m able to meet up with time, and so far, I don’t think preparing Axel for school would ever make me go late.

I arrived at the company and was on my way to my office when I came across the old secretary, Joan.

She fumed as we got closer to each other, and when she got to where I was, she purposely hit my arm and rolled my eyes.

I scoffed and held her back.

“Hey, did you do that on purpose?” I asked, still holding her hand and not minding the rest of the people around.

“What the heck? Will you let go of my arm?” She snapped, and I let go of it.

“Listen to me,” I said softly. “It’s not my fault that you didn’t get the job and your boss chose me instead.

So, I would appreciate it if you could keep your anger away from me. And with that, I walked away.”

Geez! What an unpleasant person.

I reached my desk and decided to greet the boss before starting my work.

I knocked on his door, and he invited me in. He was on a call, but he quickly ended it when he saw me.

“Zoey,” he called out happily.

“Good morning, sir,” I greeted with a warm smile.

“Oh, what a wonderful morning. I hope you had a pleasant night?” he asked.

“Yes, absolutely. Thank you. I just wanted to let you know that I’m here. I’ll be at my desk,” I told him and turned to leave.

“Zoey,” he called my attention again.

“I…was thinking. Would you be available to go out for dinner tonight?” he asked, and my eyes lit up.

What?

“D…Dinner?” I asked, surprised.

“Yes, Zoey. I just…you know? I just want us to hang out. No strings attached,” he said with a shrug, but I still felt a bit uneasy.

“Well…I’m not really sure about it, sir. But…”

“Oh, come on, Zoey. It’s just dinner. And don’t worry, we won’t be meeting up in my room this time,” he said, and I chuckled.

“Well…I’ll just think about it, sir,” I said with a nod.

“Okay. That’s fair enough. Thanks,” he replied, and I nodded and walked out.

Zach’s Perspective:

Yes! Perfect!

She’s definitely going to agree to it.

Hmm. I can’t wait to execute my plans with her.

I don’t know, but there’s just something about this Zoey lady – something unique – and I really like her for it.

So, I’ve made up my mind.

Tonight, I’m going to ask her to marry me.

Zoey’s Perspective:

I returned to the office with Axel and made him sit at the reception in front of me while I resumed my duties.

Throughout the whole time, I couldn’t stop thinking about my mother.

Her words kept replaying in my head and kind of hurt my heart, but remembering what she did only stirred up anger.

On many occasions, I felt like crying but tried my best to hold back the tears and focus on my duties.
