Chapter Sixty Five

Erica sighed deeply and quickly diverted her gaze from Ava. Tracy held Erica’s hand.

“Come on, let’s eat. I’m starving” she said and walked away with her to the dinning table.

“Let’s go son” Mr Greg said as he led Ava to the dinning table. Calvin walked to his brother.

“I never knew you had something for Ava” he said.

“Huh?” Kelvin furrowed his eyebrows. He wished his brother didn’t even say something like that.

“Nice. Well, today I’ll have to propose to Erica for the second time or.. first time” he winked and walked away. Kelvin sucked in the frustration and followed his brother to the dinning table. They all had dinner silently, till Tracy broke it.

“Calvin, you aren’t supposed to go to the company. It’s too early” she said.

“I’m fine mom” he said and scooped a spoon of peas into his mouth. Erica and Kelvin felt a little bit disgusted as they saw the others eating vegetables.
They exchange glances and quickly diverted their gaze again. It happened so quickly.

Calvin was done eating, he wiped his mouth gently with the napkin and moved his chair back. He knelt beside Erica, smiling. Erica stood up, wearing a confused expression.

Barbie closed her mouth in shock and brought out her phone. She started recording what was happening.
“So sweet…” She squealed happily. Ava had to pretend like she was happy. She just smiled awkwardly.

“Erica, will you marry me? I know I was supposed to do this week’s back but…”

“It’s okay. Yeah, I will…” She said, stretching her hand to him. Calvin pushed the ring through her finger. Erica sprung up and wrapped her arms around him. Calvin didn’t hesitate to kss her.

“Congratulations Calvin” Kelvin shook hands with his brother. Ava stood up and hugged Erica.

“I hope you don’t regret this Erica” she whispered to her ear and returned to her seat.

“Congratulations sweetheart!” Barbie waved. Tracy was smiling all the time.

“So, when is the wedding?” Mr Greg asked.

“Next week” he said.

Erica shot her eyes wide open and stare at Calvin.
“Is it that early?” She asked.

“Yeah, do you wanna wait any longer?” He asked.

“No, no.. just, asking” she said and lowered her gaze. She was even unsure about everything. She held her fork and ate slowly.

“Excuse me…” Kelvin said and left the table. Calvin stared at his brother as he left. He noticed that he was uncomfortable with something.

“I’ll check on him…” Ava said, wanting to stand up but Tracy stopped her.

“I’ll go. Enjoy your meal” she said and left.

Tracy found Kelvin at his balcony, smoking.
“Kelvin?” She called out. He turned and stared at his mother. He said nothing but continued smoking. Tracy grabbed the cigarette from him and threw it on the floor.

“Have you gone crazy Kelvin?” She asked.

“What should I do mom? What? It’s over!” He said.

“It’s not over until you say it’s over. Only you can end this. I’m not supporting you in all this but I just have to because I know Erica also loves you. She’s just stubborn” she said, looking at the floor.
Kelvin slipped his hands into his hair and groaned.

“What do I do? I’ve tried getting to her but she keeps on pushing me back. If I don’t be with Erica, I’ll leave the country” he said.

“You will do no such thing, you are going nowhere. You just have to try harder. Make sure you tell her and pour your heart to her. She may still act stubborn but proof that you are more stubborn” she said. Kelvin nodded.

“I know just what to do…”

Erica stared at her wrist watch. She still had to go to the club this evening. Tracy and Kelvin walked back to the table with a smiley face.

“So Calvin, it’s time for us to leave. Your dad and I have some other important meeting to attend in Paris” Tracy said.

“We do?” Mr Greg asked.

“Yeah, we do. Let’s go!” She said. Calvin also sprung up.

“I’ll have to follow you to the airport then” he said.

“Who’s gonna take me home? I can’t drive” Erica said.

“Oh yeah, I… Kelvin can you?” He asked, facing his brother.

Erica knew Kelvin would resist. She didn’t want him any close to her.
“I can…”

“Sure, let’s go Erica” he sprung up and walked towards the door.
Everyone left the dinning table except Ava and Barbie.

“You see what’s going on?” Barbie asked.

“Well I see it clearly baby” Ava replied.

Mr Greg was still confused about his unknown meeting. But he had to go with his wife.

Kelvin was driving Erica home. She sat on the passenger seat, staring outside the window. They didn’t want to talk to each other.

She got bored and brought out her phone. She saw again that there was news about her. She saw the video of Calvin proposing to her. A smile crept on her face. Kelvin turned and stared at her. He knew what she was watching. He turned and focus on the road.

Erica saw the news that there was going to be a storm.
“That’s weird” she squeezed her face as she clicked the play button.

“…. there’s a storm coming. Everyone’s expected to remain at home and lock their doors. The time dura…”

“Trash!” She switched it off and pushed her phone into her purse.
There was a little traffic. A lot of people were rushing home because of the news.

Kelvin received a call from his brother.
“Yeah?”

“The flight was cancelled so, mom and dad will be staying in a hotel. I guess there’s some weird storm coming” he said.

“Yeah, I guess so too” Kelvin replied.

“How’s Erica doing?” He asked.
Kelvin took a quick glance at Erica.
“She’s good” he said.

“Okay, you need to hurry back before the storm start”

“Sure” he said and disconnected the call. They were stuck in traffic for almost an hour. They were sign that the storm was coming already. The sky was already getting dark even if it was 7pm.
Kelvin was lucky to get to Erica’s house on time. He drove into the compound and pulled over.

As Erica was about to alight from the car, the rain started. It was so heavy.
“Argh!” She groaned and slammed the door back.

“Oops” Kelvin rolled his eyes. He knew he couldn’t drive back home, so he have to stay with Erica. He loved his mother’s plan, it always work.

Erica frowned. She needed to get into the house. She wanted to go to the bathroom really fast. She started feeling uncomfortable, adjusting herself on the chair repeatedly.

“What?” He finally asked her. Erica stared at him and rolled her eyes. She exhaled deeply and slammed her head on her palm.

“Argh!” She groaned and ran out of the car, not minding the rain beating her. She got to the door and saw that her purse was in the car. She was already drenched. She turned to face the car and signalled Kelvin to help her with her purse. Kelvin laughed at her secretly. He grabbed her purse and head out of the car, walking majestically to her even under the rain.
She collected her purse and took out her keys. She opened the door and ran into the house, straight to the bathroom. Kelvin marched into the house and find the switch. He took off his shoes that were wet.

Erica walked out of the bathroom and heaved a breath of relief. She saw Kelvin standing by the door and frowned.

“Why are you still here?” She asked.

“I can’t go back to the mansion. The news said, everyone should stay indoor and lock the door” he said.

“So?” She asked, still frowning.

He turned and twisted the key. It made a flicking sound.
“There..it’s locked already” he said.

“You can’t stay here, find somewhere else to stay!” She said and head to her room. Kelvin chuckled.

“You can’t tell me what to do” he murmured and head to the sitting room. He grabbed the remote control and pushed the power button. That was when the lights went out. There was no power supply.

“Now what?” He groaned, still sitting in the dark sitting room. He took off his wets clothes, leaving his trousers and singlet. He laid on the couch and stared at his phone, watching videos, playing games. He wondered what Erica was still doing upstairs. His battery ran down so he left his phone on the couch.

He found his way to Erica’s room. He marched into the room without knocking. He saw Erica with her towel wrapped on her chest.

“Hi”
She heard a creepy voice and became frightened. She jumped up in fear and stared at the door, she picked her phone flashlight and stared at the door.

“Why are you still here? I said leave!” She said, almost yelling.

“I told you, I can’t leave” he said.

“Fine, then get out of my room!” She said, pointing at her door.

“I will after taking a hot shower” he said.

“Then go to the guest room. Do you think I’d share a room with you again? It’s a no!” She yelled.

“I know you don’t want to talk to me not look at me. You are obviously still mad at me for pretending to be my brother, luring you to having sx with you..” he said as he walked towards her.

“So? It doesn’t change anything” she said.

“Are you sure? You’ll be getting married to Calvin next week. You’ve have to take vows and swear to always love him. Are you sure you love him?”

“What do you mean? Of course I do love Calvin”

“Do you love him as much as you love me?” He asked. Erica was silent for some seconds. Kelvin was a little distanced away from her. She started panting, breathing hard as she heard that question from Kelvin.

“Wh… what do you mean by that?” She stammered, staring at Kelvin.
