(Final episode)

I pranked Rita and I felt tears dribbling down my back from her eyes when I hugged her. She thought I had passed away not knowing that it was a prank – that alone proved to me the kind of love Rita had for me.

At first, I thought she was deceitful but her reaction towards the prank made me believe that she was honest.

She pecked me on my wang endlessly when we were eating.

“I haven’t felt this way since my husband díed, truly, you’re such a darling,” she said when I told her one hilarious story which made her laugh so hard.

I was amazed because putting a smile on someone’s facial appearance had always been my avocation.

When Nkechi and I were still living, I always make out time to tell her and her daughter intriguing and humorous stories.

I spent much of my time with them more than I spent at work but inauspiciously, they didn’t value it – they are really ungrateful.

“We would waste much time if we continue doing this, let’s go and take some shower,” I said to Rita when she implored me to cuddle her.

“I want to be in your arms, okay, cuddle me for ten minutes” she begged.

I looked at her as though I was fed up but she continued begging.

“Baby, please” she pleaded again.

“Okay, come here” I replied and she came to me immediately.

Instantly, a thought ran through my mind ” So this woman always shout at his employees but she is here behaving like a baby, women and problem”.

At 7:00 am, we had finished bathing and dressed up for work.

Rita was on her bossy outfit, a blue gown, a pair of black high heeled shoes with his opaque spectacle while I was on my gateman outfit and my sunglasses – I looked stunning as well.

We left the house at 7:30 am and Rita dropped me at the junction and I board a tricycle which took me to the office.

James, Mrs Adaobi and other top-class workers hadn’t come by then. The cleaners had all arrived.

At 8:00 am, Mr Femi and I were discussing when James drove in. He was in his best outfit and his facial expression was filled with smiles.

I smirked at him walking with pomposity to his office. I was sure he did not know what was going to happen.

Mr Femi asked me why I was chortling at Mr James.

“No, nothing I was just thinking about something funny” I replied him feignedly and we continued our conversation.

Two hours later, we all entered the conference room for the meeting to commence. Everyone had come and nobody was absent.

Mr James invited some of his friends to celebrate with him as he thought that he was going to be the one succeeding Rita.

His friends were numerous and they stayed downstairs while the meeting was going on upstairs.
“First off, I want to use this medium to appreciate you all for your unrelenting efforts in making this company exceedingly prosperous, you all are really wonderful,” she said with bells on and we clapped.
“My husband was the one handling this company but when he was no more, I stepped up as a greenhorn but you guys cooperated jovially with me” She added and we shook our heads positively.

“Haven rendered my sincere appreciation, let me go to why we assembled here today” Rita uttered, ” today, a new MD will emerge and it’s no other person than my fiancee, Mezuo”.

Everyone was shocked but James was shocked the most. He had already stood up waiting for him to be presented only for him to get disappointed.

Rita stood up instantly and ushered me to the sit with a kss. “Oh, we’re done,” I said as everyone was staring at me in bewilderment.

The next day, I summoned some top officials in the company to meet with me in the office which they did.

James and Mrs Adaobi were bated breath when they sat down. Mr Femi was standing at my back.

“Mr James, you treated me like a mere gateman and thenceforth, you’ll work as a gateman for three months if you still want to be a manager in this company,” I said.

“Never” he replied and left the office in fury.

Mrs Adaobi also rejected me when I told her that she’ll be a cleaner in my company if she wants to be in charge of the human resources department.

They were both sacked and I increased the salaries of Mr Femi and the cleaners because they were indeed hardworking.

A few months later, I saw Nkechi and her daughter on the road in the night wearing half-nked dresses. I wind down my screen and they rushed to my car.

“Oga, one night both of us na ten thousand naira,” Nkechi said.

I didn’t utter a word and they looked at me thoroughly and was astonished.

I wondered if James didn’t tell her all that transpired. They felt abashed and left the scene instantly.

I couldn’t hold myself as I kept laughing at them. That same day, I received a call from her and I refused to pick up.

The first time she called, I didn’t know it was her as she kept apologizing but I hung up immediately I recognized her.

I put her line on a blacklist and she couldn’t contact me anymore.
