CHAPTER 17
He offered me his elbow, I slipped my hand into it, he opened the door and we walked into the longest and largest hallway I’ve ever seen in my entire boring life.
On each side of the wall in the hallway hung so many beautiful paintings. I’m sure that each of them weighs at least 7000 pounds and costs fortunes.
Some were paintings of werewolves with human heads, some were normal humans from the 16 century. I looked at the painting of an old man with long white beards.
“That’s my grandfather” Alex said.
What! That’s insane, the man looks like he existed during the time of Shakespeare, he should at least be one of his ancestors not his grandfather.
“You are kidding?” I asked him, he chuckled and so did Nicky. I turned to her and asked. “Aren’t you surprised?”
“Why will she be when she’s even older than me in the time of the underworld?” He asked.
I twisted my brows in confusion and asked. “How do you mean, you are 23 and she’s 21”
They both laughed before Alex replied. “I’m sorry princess. Mermaids age faster in their world just like werewolves, but their body and beauty remains the same, and when they are in the human world for the first time, their age goes centuries backwards before moving forward again, almost like werewolves” he tried to explain but I just moped at him cause nothing he said made sense.
“Can you please explain better in human language” I pleaded, they both laughed.
“What I mean is that, Nicky is 2 centuries old back in Oceania but she’s 21 in the human world, just like me, I’m a 250 year old werewolf but a 23 year old guy in the human world” he stated.
I stared at him as if he has gone bunkers, I didn’t realize I was losing my balance until he caught my waist, my head spinned as I stared from him to Nicky and from Nicky to him.
This is insane, this is not normal, there’s nothing normal about my best friend being the age mate of my greater greater great great great great great grand mother if she was still alive, and my so called mate or whatever, is my great great great great grand Father’s agemate if he was still alive.

I wanted to say things, crazy bad things, or even insult their age but the fear of werewolves is the beginning of wisdom “I better not make a comment before Alex’s alpha father use me for dinner” I coughed out.
“That reminds me, my real name is Darius Dimitri” he chuckled out.
I scoffed and replied “do you expect me to be surprised? Cause I’m not” if Nicky’s age is not what I think it is, what else could surprise me in this life.
We kept walking. We got to the extreme of the hallway and he opened the door, we entered into the largest sitting room I’ve ever seen.
There were golden cushions at the center of the room organized in circle form. There were also so many paintings hung on the caramel and Cream colored walls, diamond chaderliers dangled from the high ceiling.

People were walking around, some were carrying stuff while some were discussing, the sitting room kinda look like a mini civilized city, so big.
“This way” Alex instructed.
We walked towards the east wing, we entered another hallway filled with some men in black and silver amour with spears in their hands and swords on their waisted – what? Lol, in 21 century.
“Nicky you shouldn’t have invited your age grade to the dinner, I’m sure these guards are your birthday mates” I mocked Nicky. Alex laughed.
Nicky hit my hand and snapped “I hate you”
We laughed.
Alex opened a door and we entered another hallway filled with men in black italian suit, black Italian shoes, dark sunglasses.
Their right hands were in their suit pockets As if they were fishing out something from it, their left hands were behind their backs.
“These ones are your age mates, right princess?” Alex chuckled.
“Of course” I whined, he laughed while Nicky giggled.

We entered another smaller hallway, I became frustrated and asked “does this journey ever end?”
I looked at the walls to admire their painting but to my disappointment, I saw only one. The painting of a very beautiful, elegant white girl with dark silk long hair like Alex’s, a pointed nose and thin blade pink lips, her cheekbones were in perfect shape. God, what a beauty. Above the painting hung a human skull.
“That was my sister” Alex said.
“Was?” I asked him.
“Yes, that’s her skull above the painting” he added in a painful voice.
Gush I almost jumped out of my skin. “What happened to her?” I asked.
“I guess I omitted that in the story, the night of the bloody battle, Caspian ripped her head off her body” he replied in cold voice, somehow I could feel the anger and pain in his heart, I caressed his arm hoping that it will calm him down a little, i guess it did cause he took a sigh of relief and the feeling was no longer there.
I can’t believe I entered that guy’s car, I even spoke to him, laughed with him. Gosh he looked into my face, after killing my parents he had the guts to look at me.
How can someone be so inhuman. I’ll Make him pay, for killing my parents I’ll make him pay, no matter what it takes.
“Revenge doesn’t cut it Andra, it will only ruin you” Nicky preached, I didn’t need to be told that she was in my mind. I sighed a bit.
We kept walking, Alex opened Another door and finally it’s the courtyard.
The long dining table was filled with so many delicacies, I never knew they eat normal food that is not blood meat and innocent humans.
“Be careful, they can hear you” Alex warned and chuckled.
Except three chairs, the rest were filled with beautiful ladies and handsome men.

The biggest chair at the far end of the table was occupied by a chubby tall middle ages man with a golden crown on his head – they wear crowns? Lol. Beside him sat a very beautiful tall, elegant smiling face woman who’s resemblance with Alex’s sister struck me a great deal.
She was wearing a silver tiara on her head which was adorened with diamond stones. She looks like she’s in her late thirties, I didn’t need to be told that they were Alex’s parents. But they are so young.
Alex leaned closer to me and whispered “don’t be deceived by their looks, he is in his late 870s, and his wife, my mum is in her early 650s.” Alex whispered to me
I didn’t want to be surprised but I kinda was.
“We heard that” the alpha said jokingly. I’m not surprised about that.

We walked towards him cause the three remaining seats were by his right.
Alex sat right beside him, I sat beside Alex, everyone was smiling but as soon as Nicky sat down beside me, their smile faded. She sprang up immediately, it seems like she got the memo but I didn’t. Why won’t they let her?.
“Nicky sit down” Alex commanded. He turned to his dad, giving him some kind d of signal by just staring at him.
“My dear relax” the alpha said to Nicky, she quietly sat back down. “Everyone calm down, she’s a friend” he stated.
I bent towards Alex and asked. “Why don’t they like her?”
“Because Werewolves and mermaids are sworn enemies way back for over 10 centuries now” he explained.
“That’s not cool” I mumbled.
I heard someone call my name, I looked up, it was Alex’s mother. How does she know my name.
“You are popular here, everyone knows you now” a tiny voice of a red haired lady answered.
“You are welcome my dear, I’m sorry it happened this way but it’s for your own good. By the way I’m pennytola but you can call me penny and feel free to ask me for anything OK?” Alex’s mum stated. I nodded, she turned to Nicky. “And you too Nicky” she added.
Nicky nodded quietly. Now I know why she was scared of him at the restaurant on our first hang out with Alex, and why she almost fainted when she saw the wolf him at my house.

Alex’s mother stood up and fished out the food for us, that’s surprising, don’t they have servants, I mean, werewolves that are servants.
“We do have servants but I like to take care of my family by myself” Penny stated.
OK, I better be careful with what I say in my mind before I will mistakenly call them idiots and they will hear it and use me for breakfast.
“We heard it” they all chorused and we laughed.
“She’s so funny” one of the men said amidst laughter.
“That’s my mother’s cousin Joromy and the lady beside him is his twin sister Menu” Alex whispered to me.
I nodded.
We all talked and laughed as we ate, Nicky also contributed and they ended up liking her, I mean who wouldn’t.

After the meal, that was when the servants appeared, they cleared the table and served desert, during desert, the real discussion started.
“Son we’ve found something that can help us keep her alive while we extract her blood” the alpha started. I already know what he was talking about.
“Really, well spill it” Alex urged him.
“I invited a wizard, something we’ve not done in ages, but it paid off. But it’s also dangerous according to the wizard”.
“Just say it dad” alex urged.
“To extract her blood safely, we will need the ANCIENT MIRROR OF LAFITI to keep her alive”
