CHAPTER 13
Mother and daughter seem to be having a tough time getting ready for work and school because Jimi could hear them arguing endlessly as he starts his car’s engine, eventually they rushed out of their apartment and Jimi found himself amused by their naughtiness
“Abigail if you dare delay me this morning, I’ll $pank you so bad you cannot even imagine, just try me”
Jimi chuckled softly, announcing his presence
“Now what’s the problem Abby”
“Uncle Jim Jam.. ”Abby snuggled ” mommy doesn’t want to buy me a maths set”
“But mommy why”
“This girl is just so naughty, her teacher had asked them to buy it over the weekend but she didn’t remember until this morning, where am I supposed to get a maths set from.. ”
“I guess if you get to the main road, you should be able to get one ”
“That’s the problem, I can’t afford to be late and any time from now her school bus would be here to pick her up.. So there’s no way she’s getting that this morning”
“But aunty Victoria will punish me.. ”Abby argues ”
“Let her punish you so that next time you won’t forget to pass an information across”
“Please mommy” she pouts
“Diana just pardon her for today”
“I really can’t today, I want to but not this morning ”
the school bus arrived blaring it horn
” here we go cmon Abby pick up your lunch box, the school bus is here.”
Abby was feeling reluctant,
“Abby didn’t you hear me” she yelled
she started to fake a sob
” I don’t want to go without a maths set aunty Victoria will punish me ” she repeats
“Abigail what is the meaning of this why are you delaying the school bus. Won’t you rather I punish you first and then you get another punishment from your teacher”
Diana scolds and Abby was terrified
”now before I open my eyes, I want you in that bus right now. ”
Diana didn’t exactly close her eyes but Abby was racing to the school bus
” that’s my baby girl, don’t worry I’ll get your maths set for you today, bye princess…. I love you ”
Abby didn’t respond but Diana just smiled as she watched the bus leave
“Somehow I think Abby is scared of your punishment than her teacher’s”
“She was h’ll bent on delaying me and I couldn’t take such chances.”
“So do you need a ride”
“What, no no need. I can find my way”
“OK how about I make it more of a request than an offer, I’d like to give you a ride”
“I’ll still say no, you don’t have to worry Jimi. Am fine”
“But it’s not a bother at all, your work place is just on the same route as mine.”
“How do you…. Oh I almost forgot you got me the job ,but I don’t want to delay you. I better run”
“Pls Diana, okay let it be a thank you for yesterday’s delicious dinner.”
Diana fell quiet
She is really running late
Jimi nods his head ,she’s just as stubborn as her daughter but he is willing to stick it out till she accepts
“Alright then, but we have to hurry”
“No problem ”he opened the door to the car for her ” after you… My lady” he whispered

They drove in silence for a while before Jimi noticed she was constantly checking her wristwatch
“Hey, I can assure you we’ll be there in 20 minutes, the major traffic is just on this express, after here the road will be free”
she nod and smiled
“So, how was your first week at work…”
“It went well”
“And do you like it there”
“Yeah, it’s great”
He grins and figures she is not interested in keeping the conversation going so he’d better let it be
“You know you can just ask what you wish to know directly instead of making me feel awkward. ” she said almost as if she read his mind
“I just really hope you are not having troubles at work, you seem a little tense. Checking your time every now and then”
“Well I’m always tense because Lagos jobs are too demanding, with no regards to the exhausting traffic that can’t be avoided, yet they expect you to resume early paying no attention to the basic factors transportation and traffic”
“I guess that’s one way to put it”
“And then there’s this boss of mine who enforced this law of anything less than eight has query consequences so I have to be on time”
“That’s harsh, who mandated that rule”
“I think you already know who”
“What! No, i mean how”
she smirks and stare out the window
“How did you know that I know who it is”
“Aside that you actually got me the job, your question was heading to a direction all you wanted was for me to spill the name”

“Maybe, but was I really that obvious ”
she nods ” so she’s giving you troubles.. Right”
“Not something I can’t handle,”
“Oh I could forget, you are pretty good at standing up for yourself and your personality. I trust you to not let her get to you, she can be really …really frustrating atimes”
“Yeah I know”

Jimi pulled over at the Roland logistics building
” and here you go. You still have 15 mins to get to your office”
“Thanks Jimi this was really helpful”
“Nah it was nothing, I guess I’ll see you around, take care of yourself and have a nice day”
“You too… ”she hopped down and gave him a wave before heading to the building

At work Jimi was reviewing the paperwork for the just concluded merger with St Luke’s Enterprise. It was a big one and it required a lot of research and dedication, so even after Clara had gone through it, he still had to make sure that everything was in place and there were no errors.
Clara knocks gently before walking into the office, she was looking better every day, she recently just had a new hair do and it gave her a radiant look. Jimi had to sincerely tell her she looked good, although she had added weight, she still kept dressing well.
The baby plum was only slightly visible when you look closer, she recently started wearing loose dresses and it was probably because she was starting to show, still she looks happy
“Hello sir, sorry to disturb you but Mr owolabi is here to see you”
“You mean he’s outside now”
“Yes sir”
“Why can’t he call before coming”
“He did, last week you asked him to come today”
“Oh I did, ok let him in and let’s get this over with”
she walked out and Mr owolabi walked in almost immediately
Jimi stared at him, he was a weird looking man with bald head and long beards. He is a good friend of Murphy and when Jimi needed an apartment urgently he had requested for Mr owolabi’s services but of course he had to delay it for weeks and now Jimi seem to have lost interest
“Hello Jimi Benson”
“Hi Mr owolabi how are you”
“Am doing good and you”
“Am very well thank you, so how’s business”
“We thank God, I have been trying to reach you for a while but you keep passing me to your secretary.. Why”
“I have actually been very busy, I don’t have time to myself so I apologize about that”
“It’s okay, I actually have two apartments for you and I know you will like them.
So they are both within the axis of Ikoyi as you preferred”.
He pulled out photographs and laid it on table
” so this one is around Falomo Ikoyi, the house is a story building and your apartment should be the 2nd flat upstairs, it’s 2 bedroom with an adorable kitchen everything is conducive and the other one”
he points at the other set of pictures
”.this one is 4 storey and the available room is on the last floor, the view is great and the environment is very peaceful, it is also 2 bedroom, it is quite spacious compared to this one,.”
Jimi stared blankly, maybe about a month ago he would have been intrigued by it but now he was not liking the idea of moving out at all ‘
Jimi sighed and placed both elbow on his desk.
“Mr owolabi you have really done well, I do like both options there are nothing short of my ideal kind of choice, thank you for taking the time to get this done”.
Mr owolabi chuckled ” you don’t have to thank me, I’m only doing my job”
I know, the thing is I’m still unable to stay on my own for now and as you know am currently staying with my friend”
“Yeah I know you are but I bet it not the same as having your own place, your own privacy”
“Ehn even so, I’d like to stay there for the mean time”
“But why, or do you not like any of these locations,”
he is such a business man, Jimi told himself
“Mr owolabi, I don’t have any issues with this, they suit me perfectly”
“Then why ain’t you taking it”
“Becose now is not the right time, I called you for it and now I’m saying am not ready”
“Is it because of the price?”
“No, we have not even discuss price at all and trust me price is not an issue, it’s just that I’m really happy where I am now and I can easily call it home. Look I’ll not be there forever and when I decide to move you’ll be the first to know”
“Alright then Jimi, whenever you are ready I’ll be waiting. Enjoy the rest of your day”
“And you too, thanks for understanding”
They shake hands and he walked out of the office

Simi waited for Nancy to come out of her closet before fully accessing the room her eyes stroll the pile of beautiful dresses scattered all over her room, most of which she was certain Nancy had never worn before.
“You see what am saying there’s nothing meaningful in here, I’ll just have to visit the store or better still shop online. My wardrobe is a disaster ” Nancy protests placing her hands on her waist
”Are you sure because all I see is a wonderful collection of gorgeous outfits and all we have to do is find the right one for the occasion,”
“But we don’t have all the time in the world, am sure it didn’t take you half the time I spent to find your own perfect dress”
“Well there’s nothing perfect about this dress, I just picked up some thing I can rock well, nothing too much or too plain, and I don’t even have this large number of dresses”
‘The door opened and Esther walked in
“Is there a charity event, are you giving out dresses Nancy ..why didn’t you tell me ‘
she bent and started picking up dresses
“No one is giving out anything. “Simi snatched the dresses from Esther’s arm
” now Nancy let’s get to it ”she held out a maroon strapless dress ” I think this should do the trick”
“There’s no way am wearing that to a casual get to getter,, I’ll look like a stripper”
Esther slumped on the bed
” wait! Are you still going to that hopeless dinner Wow, Nancy I thought you were better than that”
“You don’t have to be a party popper, no one cares about your opinion Esther, coz deep down you wish you had a shot at this dinner”
“Oh plz Simi, stop trying too hard who doesn’t know you are doing everything you can just to mend the broken heart caused by your brother”
“I don’t need to try on that one because I am a sensible friend and I care deeply about Nancy so I don’t need to try and make her feel better and be the hypocrite besides I believe Nancy is a strong beautiful woman who stand a better chance with men with good hearts”
“So you are trying to say your brother is heartless” Esther teased
“Esther what are getting at, ehn what exactly is your problem can’t you just act responsibly for once, why are you so obsessed with my brother”
“Am definitely not obsessed over Jimi. Abeg abeg give me some credit your brother is not the only got guy in the world”
“Dmn right but you just choose to talk about him all the time”
“well he’s the reason poor Nancy is in this situation”
“Guys guys. Guys ” Nancy raised her voice to shut them up
” why are you ruining a good day by arguing over this, I don’t want to hear any more talk about him not in my house or around me. No offense simi”
simi nodded and they kept going through the heap of dresses
“So simi, you don’t happen to know where Jimi stays now” Esther couldn’t help but ask
Nancy and simi shot her deadly glares
