CHAPTER 19
Betty was steady awake,cstretching in the living room watching a movie, and was practically engrossed in the movie, she held a pillow to her chest
Diana was surprised to see a golden haired person in her living room so early in the morning watching.
“Jesus.. Beth, are you sleep walking or what”
“Good morning to you too cuz and No, am not sleeping, am awake been fully awake since four”
Diana sat beside her on the couch
“It’s so early , didn’t you get any sleep at all”
“Nope””
“Even with all the stress and we all went to bed by past one ”
“I try not to wake the whole house,but the sleep wasn’t coming so I decided to just watch a movie instead”
” well is everything okay ”she asked softly
“Yeah.. Everything is fine, it just my usual habit these days I wake up early in the middle of the night and can’t catch any sleep so I meditate”
“Oh Crap! Don’t gimme that, you were completely drunk and worn out last night aside that you are not an early riser, never had been.. Something’s up.”
“Well maybe I got addicted to the movie”
“What movie, ‘Devious maids ‘ cmon sweetie no, am buying that
movies can only get you out of your bed when it’s 9 , or is it the bed, or perhaps it was the mosquitoes, there are crazy out here”
“I have no issues with that, your home is perfect and I’ve never felt more comfortable ”
“Thank you so tell me is it your salon or are the girls giving you troubles,”
“No Didi, the salon is just fine I told you I expanded last month, my business is doing better than ever”
“But you don’t look fine, I get that you were trying to stay happy yesterday for Abby’s birthday but right now you are starting to creep me out and anytime from now I have to get ready for work, so tell me what’s up”
Betty bent her head slightly
” Nothing spectacular ohh except ….Peter cheating on me”
“What! Oh my God” Diana gasps
“Unbelievable, he did that to you” she nodded “..are you OK?”
“Yeah, I guess ”she bites her lips
“He really cheated on you ”
Diana tried to picture Peter as the cheating type but it didn’t stick, he was a real gentleman and they were so in love
” why am I finding so hard to believe”
“Because you think he’s perfect everyone does, I haven’t really told anyone about this but if I don’t know how long I can keep it bottled up,am afraid am going to explode”
“When did this happen, how long was the affair”
“Just once but it nearly torn me apart…” She shook her head
“About two months ago he traveled to South Africa for a business meeting but when he got back he didn’t come home straight. He went to see her. Someone told me they saw him somewhere but I didn’t pay attention to that until he got back home. And she kept calling him until she sent a text to explain how great the time they spent together had been ”
She cracked and let a year drop
“I remember calling him that night to find out why he wasn’t home yet and he told me his flight was changed to the morning. He lied! He was already here and one or two people had already seen him”
Betty had already started crying
” I thought he loves me and even if I was acting all crazy and rugged he liked that about me… When I confronted him he couldn’t deny it, he just kept saying it was a mistake and it wouldn’t happen again. But I just couldn’t look at him the same way and I keep telling myself that it doesn’t matter if he cheats on me.
All I need is to stay happy but it’s not working. I can’t seem to forget that my perfect husband isn’t so perfect anymore. It’s a br.utal kick to reality that All men are s¢ums”
‘Diana pulled her close for a hug
“Why didn’t you call me when it happened”
“Call you.. Diana you are in your world here, you barely call anybody anymore. I figured you are trying to build a life for you and Abby here. I can count how many times you called me since you moved here in February. I can’t just snoop up one day and call you to tell you that my perfect husband cheated on me”
“Shusssh I get, don’t beat yourself up ” Diana pulled her closer and pat her back
” Am so sorry, I had no idea …regardless I should have been there for you am so so sorry”
She sniffle trying to wipe her tears
” it’s OK.. we’ll be fine, We’re getting better.. We started talking about having kids lately. I don’t know if he has truly changed but I don’t want to give up on my marriage, I mean it’s just two years what’s the worst that can happen?”
“You deserve to be happy Betty not cheated on. I know you’re a strong beautiful woman and will pull out of this .. I am still very fussy over Peter’s mistake but everybody deserves a second chance ”
she couldn’t believe she just said that
“And you are you giving anybody a chance at all”
Diana smiled
” am doing pretty well by myself thank you”
“There she goes acting like a tight core. You have got to give some one a chance”
“So they can s¢rew me over.. No thank you”
“Didi look around you, awesome people surround you and last night someone might have said a thing or two to show his interest towards you”
“Who?” She pressed her lips together pretending she doesn’t know who
“A certain Tall handsome light skinned, brown eyes. I think you already know who am talking about so cut the pretense”
“Unfortunately I do, he was pretty drunk last night he could have said anything”
“I don’t think so, he was very concerned about you and he thinks you are everything like the total package”
“Let’s not waste time on that, he and I are not happening ” Diana stood up from the chair
“But why not, he’s OK, he’s handsome, smart and committed if I may add very very handsome, he’s understanding and he cares”
“You just don’t understand Betty. Things are not always as it seem”
“Make me, I think this your restrictions is getting old don’t you want to experience what it feels like to love and be loved”
“It’s doesn’t have to be with Jimi” she said firmly
“I don’t see anyone else. Just give it a trial,”
Diana nodded slowly
“No Betty am really not up for it besides how did we go from Peter to Kimi so quickly”
“Don’t drive me back to that sad lane, we are talking about you so don’t wave the topic”
“What do you want me to say”
“That you would give it a trial”
“Ohh God! ” She laments
“Is that a yes? Are you saying if he mans up and ask you out you’ll be saying yes”
“I don’t know maybe” Diana said to get her cousin to drop it already.
“You’re such a lovely woman Diana, there’s just missing something.. Love with spice
Hot spice”
“You’re crazy and I’m getting late for work”
“Gosh Do you have to work today
Yup.”
“My flight is for 12 noon. Where will Abby stay”
“Can’t you stay for another day”
“Nope, I have to go to work too and my husband sent me a ‘I miss you’ text this morning at four so I have to go or maybe Abby can come with me she’s on long holiday”
“So that’s why you woke up by 4? I would really love for Abby to go with you but my mom wouldn’t like that I brought Abby is with you and not her she’d bring pissed besides we’re coming over for Christmas don’t worry I will figure something out before you leave. So I’ll call you”
“I don’t know why you live in Lagos. It crazy out here”
“It’s not yet clear to me too.” She admits this life is too much buzz for her
“Who knows it might just be the sxy as h’ll neighbour of yours”
“Gross sometimes I forget you’re married.”
“Oh honey,That makes two of us”
“I better run, you’re delaying me on purpose”
“When next am I going to see this pretty face of yours again and don’t say December coz if you don’t call me or chat me up or Skype me before then am going to forget I have a cousin as beautiful as you are.”
“Don’t worry I’m assuring you. I will socially stalk you from now on”
“Good”

Diana returned from work and Jimi was sitting by his car with his legs crossed and his eyes glue to his phone.
Diana thought of ignoring him but Brady had to choose that time to bark like crazy. Jimi turned his attention to her and stood up to walk toward her.
‘Oh God make him stay away. I don’t have the strength to deal with this physically, mentally and emotionally’ she prayed silently
He was coming closer and so was the memories of last night, she intended to ignore him for the has long as it takes but she wasn’t so lucky
“Hey ”he said slowly in a hoarse voice
“Jimi”
“How was uhm work today”
“Fine ”she turned and head to her flat
“Diana pls can we talk”
“It depends, what are we talking about”
he sighed heavily
” first I want to apologize for how I behaved last night. Am truly sorry”
“Oh you do remember”
“Vaguely ..but I hope I didn’t mean to hurt you in any way or disturb you”
“Hmm”
“So would it be wrong for me to try again”
“What you want to try and kss me again” she blurted angrily
“No not that, I meant ask you out”
“Ohh and what makes you think that I will give you a good answer”
“I really don’t know but I just have to try again, you are too special, all this is unreal to me so much that I don’t even know how to go about it, have never felt this way before and it’s making me act like a child”
“Did you realize this before or after you kssed the life out of me in my kitchen without my permission”
“I’m really sorry about that,”
“I don’t know what you expect me to say Jimi”
“Just gimme a chance Diana. It’s all I can ask for. Diana I’m not perfect I’m not even close, but you make me want to be perfect….
You just bring out this side of me that I didn’t even know exist. All day all I could think about is how to talk to you and make you see just how crazy I am about you… Dmn I sat there waiting for you thinking I might be too late and someone else might have won your heart”
“You were waiting for me”
“Yes Diana, I hope you can see how much you really mean to me”
No ‘ she almost screamed but took a moment to calm down
“Everything is just so sudden besides what happened to being friends”
“That kind of delay the process”
“No jimi, it’s about getting to know each other. Everything doesn’t always have to be a rush, why am I explaining that to you”
“No am eager to learn pls teach me how to be delicate ”
“Am not teaching anything jimi. Am sorry this can’t happen right now. I have alot going on and I don’t want to complicate my life with a relationship” (with Jimi Benson’)
She almost added
“I understand. It’s just like you said there’s no rush, you can take your time. Am going to wait”
“What! But I didn’t ask you to wait”
“I know but you are worth the wait Diana. You need to know that am very serious about this and am not going to give up”
Oh boy . Is this dude nuts’
Why can’t he just understand she wants to stay away from him not be with him
She shook her head
“I guess I can’t decide that for you. It’s been a long day Pls excuse me”
She walked into her flat feeling so heavy and couldn’t wait to be out of his sight so she can digest this overwhelming situation
Jimi Benson just asked her out
The same Jimi Benson.
