CHAPTER 17
The car suddenly become too hot and uncomfortable for Jimi, the AC was on and the cool night breeze was supposed to make him feel better but he wasn’t feeling at ease, his own car seem to have become an oven.
He glanced at the woman sitting next to him in the car, she was just staring out the window, she seem to not be feeling the way he was feeling, he pulled down his tie and rubbed his throat.
His chest was beating so hard and fast he felt he was going to explode and he felt really uncomfortable he doesn’t even understand what this is about and is not exactly the first time this was happening anytime but this was quite different
This time he was sweating like crazy, his forehead was itchy, his neck everywhere. He couldn’t understand what was going on or what she was doing to him because he sure as h’ll couldn’t control himself
“Jimi if you don’t take your eyes off me and on the road instead we are going to be in an accident ”
she said softly making him jump because she was still staring out the window
“Oh.. I. .oh…..pheew! I wasn’t staring ”
He stammers how can she stay calm and observe while he is going out of his mind
Silence filled the car again
he couldn’t help himself so when he glanced at her again their eyes met and they both laughed
“Did I mention that you are looking extremely beautiful tonight”
“Maybe like a dozen times already”
“Ohh it’s not like you are not always beautiful but tonight was kinda spectacular, you know you look so different, maybe because I haven’t seen you like this before you look gorgeous I mean you stood out among hundred women at the dinner tonight I mean it was ”
“Jimi I get the point ..thank you”
“I’m merely stating a fact no need to thank me ..” he tried to concentrate on driving again but after a split second he couldn’t help but ask
“so you and Marcel huh”
“Me and Marcel what?”
“I mean he brought you to a dinner for a reason”
“Dinner with about over a hundred people”
“Still you were his date”
“Well…., He is my boss nothing more ”
Not that I owe you an explanation’ she said to herself
“Besides, what was that back there with you two?”
“Marcel and I share a past.”
“An ugly one I guess”
“Something like that,”
“He was pretty defensive back there like he had everyone reason to”
She pushed for a more detailed answer
“Yeah he’s always like that sometimes there are things that ought to remain in the past, some things are better left in the past”
Diana fell quiet at his last sentence which past was he referring to exactly because if he was playing dumb now would be a great time to rip his head off, she thought of all kind of things she could say to him but couldn’t make up her mind
Jimi slightly touched her and she almost jumped out of her skin
“Diana are you OK.”
She looked around and realized the car had stopped and they were already at home
“Yeah! Yeah am fine”
“Are you sure”
“Yes ” she snapped
she struggled to get out of the car because the seat belt won’t come off when Jimi leaned over to help her they accidentally bumped heads
“Geez Diana am sorry, just lean back and let me help you with that”
Diana tried to fight it but she realized that this point she really needed to get away from him and that includes getting out of the seatbelt. She retract and let him try to pull out the belt as his hands rubbed her waist slightly before the belt fell off, she felt a drain down her windpipe
She hurried out of the car murmuring
” good night”
Jimi wondered what he did wrong, she seemed really pissed maybe he went a little overboard with his compliments and dumb questions. He wanted to go and check up on her but decided against it. If she’s taking so much effort to escape the car she obviously doesn’t want to see him

Jimi couldn’t go to the gym this morning because of the crazy owner and her sister so he decided to jog round the estate instead. He was gone over a couple of blocks several times before deciding to stop by at a store to get water, he drank from it and turn the rest over his head
A familiar car was parked outside the store and Jimi, moving closer. The driver came out of the range Rover sports and head toward him
“Goodness Jimi.. There you are”
Jimi stared at BJ, he had a broad grin on his face as he stretches his hand but Jimi only shook his head wondering what this is about, after a while they head inside Bj’s car
“Dmn, Steve is the worse at description, do you know how long have roamed this estate, thank God you decide to take a jog out on the streets I would have missed you for sure”
“So I’m suppose to believe you came out here for me”
“Of course man, why else would I be here, why would I come to this awful God forsaken place” he cleared his throat
” look it about time we close the riff chapter I feel bad that we had to go through that sht I mean it’s long overdue”
“Well it’s about time someone grow up ”Jimi muttered
“Well since you know me so well, you’d understand that I didn’t mean to upset you. You are my closest bu?dy and you are like my brother”
Jimi sighed softly
“Alright man ”
“So we are good.”
“Yeap I guess so”
“That’s my boy”
“Am not your boy, you are just a year older, you have to get it into your thick skull that am not one of the boys at the club. The ones you boss around and make them do your dirty work”
“Yeah you are more important than them, so how have you been”
“Good better than good”
“I wonder why ”
“Peace of mind dude. POM”
“I see ….Is that so? Hmmm are you saying that this doesn’t have anything to do with a certain Diana”
“Excuse me.”
“You heard me Diana”
“And how do you know Diana,”
I saw her picture on your instagram and we both know you don’t post anyone other than yourself and your biceps not even me”
Jimi suddenly regretted posting the picture of him and Diana from the day at the picnic not that she was going to see it because she wasn’t following him on instagram and giving his big mouth friend something to rant about but he had not really posted it for her to see it or for bj to make comments about it. He had posted it because he had really liked the picture.
“And how do you know her name is Diana because I sure as h’ll didn’t indicate that there”
“It doesn’t matter how I know her name, what matters is what she’s doing to you”
“What the fk are you talking about”
“The fact that you’ve changed Jimi”
“In what way”
“Everyway”
“H’ll no have not changed”
“Yes you have every fking day, and it happened since you had a change of environment”
“That’s bullsht bj, you’re just upset because I didn’t become your roomie am still the same me”
“I don’t think so, when last did you go clubbing”
“Is that what this is about, I went clubbing last week”
“Last week, Jimi the club is your sanctuary you go there every day… ”
“Maybe I just wasn’t feeling it. It happens. I can get tired of doing the same thing over and over again”
“OK if you say so …..but are you currently seeing anyone ”
Jimi raised his shoulders before nodding
” or how about when last did you get laid?”
“Shut up bj, don’t you realize sometimes you get bored of the things that you do all the time am merely taking a break dude I’m not giving up on being myself” he defended
“Break. The last time you took a break you woke up in a Jacuzzi with $trippers”
“That wasn’t a break it was a melt down”
“Either way this new you is beginning to wear off the real you and in no time you’ll be a goner”
“That’s so not true.. How about we hit the club right now”
“Are you sure, I mean it’s 10 in the morning and you are still in your sports wear”
“Have you forgotten we have done 3 days straight clubbing before and who cares what I wear to the club besides the ladies love em”
“Alright then let’s go somewhere fun but I hope you are not trying too hard to be your old self again”
“Can you just shut up and drive”

When Jimi got back later in the day he went straight to bed, by the time he woke up he went straight to the kitchen to get water from the fridge
when he got out of the kitchen, martha, abby and Philip were in the living room. How could he have walked past them without noticing.. He must have been really worn out Abby was fast asleep on Martha’s laps
“What time is it ”Jimi asked
“Good to see you too, it’s almost eleven”
“Sorry dude I must have been really exhausted, what’s going on.. why is everyone wearing a long face”
“Diana went out since morning and she’s not back yet and for the last two hours her phone’s been switched off”
“Where did she go to”
“To the market, she went to get some stuff for Abby’s birthday tomorrow and she’s not back yet am getting so worried ”
Martha added
“Who’s she with.”
“A colleague at work, I think her name is joy. Yeah Joy”
“My worries is that the estate gates closes at 10 ” Philip mutters
” I hope she’s okay”
Jimi grabbed a T-shirt from his room and hurried out
“Where are you going Jimi”
“To the main gate lemme know when you find out anything”

Almost an hour later, after Jimi had called Murphy who already sent Joy’s number, he finally reached Joy who told him that their car bus had abruptly stopped in traffic and they had been stranded for hours before Marcel had showed up and he had just drop her off at her house and was bringing Diana home….
Jimi watched as Diana hopped down from Marcel’s car just as he was getting off the phone with Joy he watch as they offload the things she had bought for Abby’s birthday.
While Marcel was arguing with the security guard at the gate to let him drive in but Diana managed to convince him that they had policy and it couldn’t be defiled. Finally pointing towards Jimi’s side that he was there to help.
Jimi didn’t say anything until Marcel finally left he moved to Diana and helped her with her balloons and stuff
“Oh Jimi how long have you waiting, thank you so much ”
he wanted to keep quiet and subsidize his anger but he couldn’t.
“What the h’ll were you thinking Diana. Do you know how worried we were you left since morning to buy all these dumb stuff. Eho asked you to bother that’s why we called in decorators they are meant to do all this and you were roaming around the streets of Lagos like you own it…
We are just a few minutes to midnight anything can happen so what if that dumb boss of yours had not shown up would you have endangered your life in the street like that and your phone was switched off dmn it.. What if something bad had happened. ”he sighed heavily
Diana frozed as she stare at him with her mouth wide open for most part of it he was right
” I’m sorry “she said softly ” I. I ‘”she swallowed hard ” nothing bad happened Jimi am fine but this is my daughter’s birthday.. I want to do this sort of things myself, it’s special to me.”
“I’m sorry I said too much. I was really worried we are all worried, I shouldn’t have yelled at you”
Diana smiled softly ” I’m the one who’s sorry”
Jimi closed the distance between them and gave her a warm hug :
” don’t ever do this again ” he muttered to her ears ”
